We went to do a yoga class and stayed at this hotel for a month. It is worth noting that the owner and his family are lovely, very attentive to all our needs, always with a smile. It is nice to meet such beautiful people. On the other hand, the rooms are spacious, with bathroom and hot water, everything is very clean and always smells great. It has a kitchen where you can prepare a tea or whatever you want. The location is unbeatable, a 3-minute walk from Varkala beach.

A wonderful stay.

Sitting in Delhi called Athira to inform that my aged parents are visiting and to take good care of them. They went out of the way to make my parents stay comfortable and took good care of them. Really appreciate their dedicated and friendly service. My parents spent their 60th wedding Anniversary on May 23rd (yesterday) visiting nearby temples and the really glad they chose Athira.

We took 2 broom apartment with a/c. A/c is noisy and doesn't cool. No hot water in 1 bedroom, the lock in the apartment door broken, so we didn't lock it when away. It is very noisy and we had to sleep with ear plugs. It is quite far from north cliff and beach where all actions/cafes are  unless you take tuk-tuk, which cost 100-150 rupees. Also owner is dishonest and charged us for the day we didn't stay just because it was booked.

I chose Athria Gardens off the back of the reviews it had received. However to my surprise I wasn’t overly impressed. The room didn’t seem to have been cleaned throughly. It had a cockroach in the cupboard and many friendly lizards accompanying us. And the blanket left for us to use hadn’t been washed and smelt musty. 

The room itself was ok- it has a double bed and a television (once we asked for one as there wasn’t one like the booking suggested) and there was air con available but at an extra cost (my fault as I didn’t read that on the ad). 
We were the only people staying here from what I could see, probably due to the season time so maybe that explains why there were some mishaps in cleanliness. 
But overall for the price it is useable and I’m sure this was a one off experience. 

The host was friendly and accommodating and able to provide us with taxi services and a service to Kollam too!  

Not the cleanest room 

We booked Athira originally for two nights but extended to four. 

The room was immaculately clean and very well presented and definitely big enough for the two of us. The bathroom was also clean and tidy and the soap they gave us smelt good enough to eat. 

The service was great and really friendly and the place very affordable. 

Location wise, it's quite quiet but only a couple of minutes walk to the beach and very near to some great places to eat. We enjoyed hanging out at surf and soul just down the road 

Thoroughly recommend 

Clean and lovely 

We booked 7 days at Athira Gardens found it suited us well and stayed on for 17 days. Located in the quieter South Cliff area it is convenient for the beach and restaurants and Papanasam beach. Manager and staff are friendly and helpful. We had a bedroom  on the ground floor - not fancy but a reasonable size and with a fan, air-conditioning and an attached bathroom (and a TV we did not use). There is a shared lounge area - and also one on the first floor. We felt secure and comfortable  and the cost was very reasonable.

I was lucky to be in this little paradise in paradise! Before the trip I considered several options, because the picture is one and in fact it can be quite different. I was lucky!!! for India such a service! The hotel is located in a quiet cozy place, very close to the ocean. (Through the neighboring hotel Serf.. on the staircase 5 minutes) The hotel is clean and cozy. The friendly atmosphere. The rooms are cleaned, the bedding is changed!!! The service is on the level. Binu owns the hotel, he monitors and manages all the life processes of the Hotel's activities himself. I recommend to those who want the quiet, away from the shopping lines and restaurants. PS Pty Mantry and the mornings, but you wouldn't know what to expect.

We had a nice room, clean and quiet, friendly staff, parking at the front of the house, easy access, good price, and very pleasant: away from the hustle and bustle, looking down at the beach, highly recommended!

Right-left-back-front of the hotel are private Indian houses, as Athira is right in the centre of the so-called South Cliff of Varkala. There's only 1 restaurant, very few hotels, compared to the Upper part of the beach of Varkala, in the morning you can hear the singing calls to the local temples, temples are nearby a lot. It's quiet here, the birds sing, the crows don't bark and the coffee smells of all sorts of flowers. From the side of the hotel it looks like a box with windows)) - but everything is very nice inside. Not to say that the hotel is ideal for a child's rest, as there is no kitchen nearby, but we've had to negotiate the water to the South Cliff, and when you're sorry, it's a lot.
