Didn't have a checkin counter and halfway through a major renovation. The worker was nice but quite sick and couldn't speak or use Google translate to communicate. The owner was rude, questioned our online booking, and was not on site, keeping us waiting for a very long time in addition to being confrontational. 

The guesthouse next door said that 2 other foreign groups had gone to her with the same issues (rude owner, unable staff, booking issues).

Construction, new management, bad service.

Comparing to what you can get in Indonesia for 200000 idr per night, this place is terrible. The worst thing is amplified sound system in the nearby mosque, it wakes you up at 4:30 unless you were already awoke because of a cockcrow that starts at 3:30. And see the breakfest picture I attached. Joke, isn't it?

Just avoid it

Great view and value at this small and friendly guesthouse. Large room with comfortable bed, and staff were warm and friendly. Nice view from the balcony over Berestagi and only five to ten minutes walk from town. We used the recommended tour guide for the volcano hike and the trip to Lake Toba and was very satisfied with the service. Bathroom very basic but overall a very enjoyable stay.

Good value option in this small guest house

Do you like being woken up in the dark by amplified religion? Then you're in luck! There's a mosque next door with a PA system stronger than most sporting arenas. Earplugs cannot save you from this delight. Other than that the toilet is broken, there is no hot water, no towels, and only a single blanket provided despite it being quite crisp outside. To its credit my bed is the comfiest I've encountered on my hostel travels. 

4.30am wakeup

This place is a joke. Showed up with a booking and were told the hostel was full by rude staff trying to be intimidating with no customer service skills. Ruined an otherwise amazing country for me. The way we were treated was ridiculous, no management, no apology no understanding. This shouldn't even be allowed to advertise on booking.com. Save yourself the disappointment. 

DO NOT STAY HERE

The house is located near the city centre. You will be able to walk to the house if you are taking the local bus from Medan. You can check with the Tourist Information Centre if unsure. It is also walking distance to the fruit market (which, in my opinion, nothing much to see - more of a tourist trap)

The room offers a view of the city and mountains in the background. Unfortunately, it was raining when I was there and couldn't see anything. 

Room I had had a double bed. When I booked it on booking.com, they did not state there were two prices for having a cold shower and hot shower. I had to top up another IDR40,000 for a room with hot shower. However, don't take long showers. The hot water ran out twice and it became freezing cold. 

I think the guest house needs a refurbishment as the paint had stains and some parts of the paint was coming off. There was also a big crack on the wall in Room 6. Did not feel entirely happy with what I saw but it was only for a night. It gets pretty cold at night too. Had second thoughts about using the blanket provided as it had a funny smell, dont think they wash it often but had to use in the end. The toilet had just a shower head and toilet. No toilet paper or basin was included. 

Owners cannot speak much English so I had to go to the tourist information centre to find out how to get to places.

Overall, it was a below average experience for me. No breakfast was included as well. So just check with the guest house before booking.
