I can do a run down hotel but for the price, I'd not expected a dirty room and bathroom: dirty doors, dirty curtains, stained towels, mouldy bathroom etc. I wish I could say that it was ok for 1 night  but the concert by the pool didn't help get a restful night. All in all, not great at all.

I do not recommend

This hotel was very disappointing. We are a western family and felt very uncomfortable. The staff appeared dismissive and judgemental. Strangely they had bar displays set up in various places but when we asked if we could order a drink in the restaurant we were told that the bars were empty display cabinets.  We asked for advice about where to go to a local shop to buy provisions for our onward journey and were told that they could not help us get there and we could not walk as we would get run over.  Getting lunch in the restaurant was difficult and apparently room service did not run during the day. There were signs everywhere telling us what we could not do. Overall very high priced and very poor service. Best avoided.

Not the right hotel for western families

Unfriendly staff especially staff who stand by infront of the door of restaurant who picked your room card, the taste of food was so standard, toilet wasn’t clean enough, garden wasn’t tidy enough, swimming pool was too but building was awesome.

So standard

We had a spacious room. It was downstairs from the reception and there was no lift but nobody automatically helped us with our luggage. The grounds are very pleasant to walk around. You can’t walk into town as there appear to be no paths. Fine to spend a night there between lake Tabo and the jungle.

Good for a one night stopover

3.202675, 98.521592 Too far from the city centre to walk, this large resort-style hotel on the northern edge of Berastagi offers impressive view from the outside with a car ramp to the reception. It has four 2-storey wings with rooms with balconies on either side of the central hall. The entrance is imposing with a large central hall and views of the large outside pool and garden. On closer inspection, the hotel is not well maintained and the rooms are worn and outdated. This hotel has seen much better days. Major update is needed. 

In September 2023, our room 425 offered twin beds, excellent hot shower, television, good Wi-Fi, tea and coffee and a balcony. Fan or air-conditioning were not available. We didn’t need them in September. The room was clean and the bed slept well. 

The highlight of this hotel is the breakfast included in the price. Continental and Indonesian dishes tasted excellent.

A stopover hotel for one night

The rooms are really outdated, seems like they never renovated at all since opening. Breakfast are really terrible, very little variety and cold food.  Really noisy hotel, upon my stay, there is an event at the pool with sound system which was allowed until 11pm, and the buzz of the noise can be heard clearly from the room, the guest from the event were shouting with a mic which is really disturbing. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. The staff are friendly but the management are lack of empathy and consideration towards other paying guest by allowing such event

Avoid this resort, terrible.

The hotel is basically one of the better classed hotels on Sumatra. Some of the positive and negative points :
Well presented - clean and with furnishings that are up to standard. The room was spacious and had good views over the well presented gardens.
We arrived on a cool day and the restaurants and rooms were not heated, so everywhere felt a bit cool. The open foyer which leads onto the upstairs dining area was draughty and lacked 'ambience'.
The water glasses (or water) smelt very chemically. The meal itself however was good.
There was a small karaoke session going on in the downstairs restaurant which was incredibly loud and could be heard throughout the hotel.
The wifi was only available in the foyer area.
Overall, comfortable for a few nights, but let down by small issues.

Disappointing

The hotel is a bit dated (no idea when it was built though), but the interior doesn't look exactly new. There are few electric outlets, and they are behind the TV, difficult to reach. 
In fact, personally, I think it is a disaster that they destroyed the nice natural vegetation (to be seen outsie the property) to turn it into a desert. Food was ok, but breakfast was only served until 9:30 am, and when I asked for an extra tea bag and sugar, they told me to call the room service (probably so they can charge me :). in any case, the hotel is NOT cheap, despite some reviewers claimed so, although there seems to be some room for negotiation.
It was also relatively noisy, because the huge property consists mostly of lawn which needs to be cut all the time. Also, since Indonesia is a muslim country, you will be woken up by some Muezzin at 4:30 am!
Finally, the wifi works only in the lobby area, and was of terrible quality (very slow) when we were there (October 2019).

Rooms ok, but not cheap and not natural

Having come from the very basic accommodation we were staying in Tangkahan the superficial grandeur of this place was very welcome.  We had 2 rooms, both with 2 double beds in and a large bathroom it’s bath and shower.  Although the bathroom was extremely tired and the bath was so cracked and flaking that you wouldn’t have been able to use it.  Kids were excited to use what looked like a fun pool with slides etc.  However, it was freezing and the slides were not working so they were left fairly disappointed.

Dinner was a farce.  Kids were a bit tired of Asian food so decided to order more western.  Son ordered a steak only to be told, 20min after ordering that they had run out, ordered something else and then another 20min later were told that they had run out of french fries.  When the food did turn up with was revolting, my daughter had ordered a burger which was a meatball despite having asked what size it was.  The dining room was devoid of atmosphere and the waiting staff were useless.  Breakfast better as it was a large buffet with good selection, Asian and western.

Overall the rooms, particularly the beds were comfortable but the rest of the hotel was a shambles with a very odd atmosphere.   Only wifi was in the hotel lobby and if you weren’t right by the reception desk it was very poor.  Would not recommend.

A has been hotel

The hotel have a huge garden to chill, to picnic, to walk or lazing about in late afternoon. Variety of flower in the garden. Good outdoor view. The room is ok, might need some renovation. The staff is nice and friendly. 

A good stay by spending an afternoon in the garden.
