I personally like to stay in this hotel. Yes, it's a bit old, but the staff and the view makes up for it.

Good things about the hotel:
- huge soft beds, and nice duvets (which is very important, because it can be cold at night in the mountains, and there's no heating in the rooms)
- Most of the rooms face Sinabung volcano. It's erupting several times a day. The view is spectacular.
- Hotel staff is extremely helpful, polite and open. 
- Rooms are very big and clean. Actually, it feels that the staff is cleaning the area constantly, because there's lots of ash coming from Sinabung. It's an incredible experience (and the area is safe), don't let my comments to put you out from visiting the area.
- Wifi works in the lobby only, but connection is surprisingly good.
- hotel can organise transport to any place you want to go to. And it's only about 25 mins walk to the local market and the "centre" of Berastagi.
- It's a perfect base for trekking you can do in the area
- They don't have their own laundry, but can send your laundry to the town, where it will be washed and dried in a dryer (very important considering the humidity). Laundry is a bit expensive - like in most places in Indonesia - but reliable.

Negative things about the hotel:

- Food in the restaurant is not that great. The cook has mastered several dishes, the rest is a disappointment. The problem is - there are not many places to eat nearby the hotel. So if you don't want to walk into town, you have to settle for the hotel food.
- it looks like the swimming pool was last used in the 1970s (and was cleaned then as well).
- Bathrooms are clean, but clearly quite old. And the hot water does require a bit of playing with the tabs - you either get boiled or frozen. Takes a while to find the perfect temperature. Having said that - the staff is always there to help if you can't figure out hot water at all.

Stunning views, a bit old-fashioned

The hotel is extremely simple and basic. The rooms are spacious, clean but very old. My deluxe room had unobstructed views of Mount Sinabung, which was erupting at that point. The sunset against Sinabung made it worth the stay. The front desk is warm and friendly and has a sense of humor. Good place for a short stay

Basic hotel with amazing views

Danau toba cottage is very jice hotel at Lake toba . We are so happy stay there. Our holiday so completed and happy. Danau toba cottage have good facility. And for Group family and bagpacker can try for make trip and stay at Danau toba cottage..

Week end Holiday

Watch out: There are 2 Hotels with the name "Danau Toba International Cottage", one in Berastagi in the mountains, one in Parapat at Lake Toba. This is the one in Berastagi. The pictures showing a hotel at a lake are misplaced, they are from the one in Parapat!

We stayed just one night in Danau Toba International Cottage in Berastagi. It was ok for the night, but not a place to stay longer. The place was almost deserted, it is too far away from the town to walk, and there was nothing to do in the evening. Luckily our driver had recommened to have dinner in town before driving out to the hotel.
The room was quite large, but mostly empty.
Breakfast was simple and served in a large, empty restaurant.
People said it were crowded on the weekend.

To make things worse, the whole place was covered in vulcano ashes. There is a swimming pool, but it looked like it had been out of use for years.

Spooky place but ok for a night

Its fine here, the friendly staff helped out all time. Breakfast was fine. The rooms were only outdated and pool was not clear. A bit far situated from centre, only possible by car. Would recommend other places than this
