The staff here are very friendly and there is live music on in the cafe downstairs pretty much every night. Dont stay here if you want a nice quiet nights sleep, but do stay here if you'd like a few beers, good conversation with locals, and live music (mainly just locals and tourists just getting up and playing together) You can also organise treks to Gunung Merapi from here, and rent motorbikes both of which are well worth doing.

Comfy dorm room in a cool music cafe

Something so dirty I have never seen before on Sumatra neither later. And the room was in another place, not on the adress, which we had from reservation. 
Breakfast OK (1 pancake or 2 pieces of toast and cup of tea/coffe), but not Indonesian, as was written in some reviews and reservation.

We arrived at 14 hours to have lunch. The pizza we wanted to order was not available as they were missing the spinach. The other choice was fine and had a fine taste. Drinks were served quickly. Funny that you have to write down your own order and therefore the waiter does nothing. The music is very 60 and 70 and most of the time Bob Marley. Not my cup of tea.

Quiet place for lunch

We booked 2 nights in a “deluxe room“ via Booking and were put in a disgusting & dirty extremely small room with not even a window. There were blood stains on the bed cover & really heavy terrible mould in the toilet & shower. This was one of the most expensive rooms of our 4 weeks in Sumatra and the worst room we had.

The simple western breakfast was ok but nothing special. The cappuccino (not included in breakfast) was decent but they ran out of coffee beans for the rest of the day after 1 cup.

We told them that we would not stay another night in that room, even if we lost our money for the second night. They then put us in their only other double room which was quite ok in comparison but when they wanted more money, we only agreed if same price but without breakfast. This room at the front was larger and cleaner (without mould) and had a small outdoor balcony. 

The listing on Booking was quite misleading as they only seem to have the terrible room at the back, the larger room at the front and a kind of “backpacker dorm room“ in between.

The bar below was a dark, dreary bar and the various staff around were totally uninterested in attending to anything other than smoking and playing on their mobile phones. Several staff were sleeping on the couches at various times of the day. We received no useful information for our time in Bukittinggi from them. The only positives we can say was that the beer was cold and the cappuccino was good at the more airy front of the cafe (assuming they had coffee beans).

We would definitely not go back here again and not recommend this place to other travelers.

2 “deluxe rooms“ (1 terrible, 1 ok), Poor staff, Dark & dreary bar, cafe ok

Our fault, we didn't check the hotel reviews. We only read the "guest like of this hotel". 
Indeed, the location is close to main landmark and tourist attractions, but the room and the whole hotel is dirty and smelly. Those are not the worst. Practically we could not sleep at all due to loud noise from the cafe and other guest rooms. 

Simply terrible

This is worst place I’ve ever stayed in. Staff wasn’t helpful at all, a guy just showed me the room and that’s IT. 

I’m pretty sure they didn’t change the bedsheet and I don’t know how many people slept on it before. Bathroom wasn’t cleaned for ages. In general the place is unbelievably dirty. 
People smoke inside and smell of cigarettes is everywhere. 

On the way to the room you can see the kitchen which looks just terrible in all ways and I went to eat to another place. 

Better spend a bit more money and get something normal.
