One of the nicer hotels around Maninjau lake. Located centrally in the village so you can observe the life locals live. There's a restaurant downstairs with quite standard but tasty fare. The staff speak little english but are nice and helpful. For around 200 thousand rupiah you get a big room with bathroom ensuite. There is a bathtub in the bathroom! The rooms are a bit worn though, and may be noisy as the hotel is by a drive-through street. One of the best adventages of the place is its restaurant's terrace overlooking the spectacular Maninjau Lake.

Good value for money

We were the only people there, the rooms are very tired which is such a shame as it would have been really nice, once!
Communicated by text, but no need to book in advance! We ended up in a super deluxe, not because we really wanted the AC, it was just the nicest room, of a sad lot!
Overpriced for the standard despite the discount we negotiated.
Breakfast choice fried rice or fried noodle! Hot water jug available, if you have your own tea and coffee, no drinking water in the room. No evening or lunch menu.
Despite little English all the staff friendly.

seen 'The Shining'? This is it!

We stayed in Super Deluxe AC room. The plus point was some rooms are equipped with aircond as such luxury was a scarcity for hotels in the Maninjau area. Apart from that, one can truly enjoy the view of Maninjau Lake by sitting at the benches at the back of the room and when having breakfast. The room had seen better days and needed a facelift soon. The room was moderately clean, which can be further improved. The helpful hotel staff assisted me to buy electric mosquito repellent at my expense when we told him about the existence of mosquitoes in our room. Although there was no electric jug in the room, the hotel provided hot water in a thermos. There was electricity cut of about an hour plus in the morning during my stay. Luckily, I have torchlight to lit the bathroom in order to take bath (at 6.00 am) as without the lighting, the bathroom was pitch dark. We had been asked about our choice for breakfast from the selection of either nasi goreng (fried rice) or mee goreng (fried noodle) and what time we would like to have our breakfast (the next morning) during check-in. However, we were quite surprised nothing for breakfast was ready (thank goodness we have time to spare although we started our sightseeing trip 15 minutes late due to this) when I went to the restaurant the next morning at the appointed time (7.00 am). They just woke up and started to prepare food for my breakfast when we went to the restaurant. They were not able to prepare fried rice due to electricity cut as they were not able to cook rice using rice cooker, so we changed our order to mee goreng (fried noodle) and meehoon goreng (fried meehoon). The selection of drinks for breakfast was either coffee or tea.

A stay by the Maninjau Lake!

After viewing three more, we decided that the best of what we’ve seen so far, and most suitable for the kids, was Pasir Panjang Hotel. It had hot water shower and the all important tiny bit of beach.

It sounds like home too, as there is a place in Singapore called Pasir Panjang. Pasir means Sand/Beach, and Panjang means Long. So Pasir Panjang means Long Beach - which is quite funny when you see the short beach at Pasir Panjang Hotel.

Perhaps there are better places out there that we did not get a chance to look at, but we had left the kids on their own for over half an hour. We got back to Bagoes Cafe, the kids were fine, except that some were wet and damp. They had been playing in the rain under the porch of Bagoes Café.

We walked over to Pasir Panjang Hotel. Room rate then was Rp230,000/night (S$30.70), plus Rp70,000 (S$9.30) for an extra bed (mattress).

An average choice amongst worse options

Quite old and poorly maintained. So so place. Staff is friendly but not on time, promised breakfast at 7am but staff only come at 7am.. We left without having breakfast. The only plus factor is the nice lake view from our room.
