A balinese friend recommended me to The Menjangan Resort he said you would love it...he wasn't wrong we booked to stay at the Moonsoon Cottage but when I asked about upgrading to something better at a reasonable price I was silly not to take up the offer and was presented with a Beach Villa which had a wow factor the villa was only 10 steps to the ocean which was calm and smooth ...then along came a herd of reindeers running in front of my beach villa as they also reside here as it is a National Park. They visited us daily in the morning while having breakfast and stay on the beach resting themselves under the shady trees hanging over the waters edge. There are also so making other wildlife which makes this place a haven for God's little creatures. Monkeys...birds...fish...squirrels..etc.
Waking up to the sound of these creatures is so awesome. I would certainly recommend this piece of paradise ...the food and staff are all so helpful and wonderful. Thank  you to the management of The Menjaragan Resort for making our stay a memorable one.

Total Serenity

My husband and I stayed here for one night because he was going scuba diving. The scuba diving was amazing. He said it was actually legit, they asked him for his liscence, they did a debriefing, they made sure he was safe the entire time. Which did not happen other places, where I could have gone without any scuba diving experience and said that I was certified. This to me means a lot, they actually cared. The resort itself was very overpriced for what you got. Resorts near there for half the price had more activities and more to do. However, if you just want to lay at the beach/pool and eat very expensive food, this is the place to be. With that said the service was amazing, they even remembered our names which I was very impressed by.

High price to pay for peace and quiet

If you are looking for privacy and the luxury to stay on a private island, this is the place (with 2 fine sand beaches, each of them is in the shadow while the other is in the sun) but you will have to make compromises :
- Electricity runs from 18.00 to 06.00 so you may wake up at the same time as your ventilator. 
- Most of the bathrooms has a broken shower and broken toilet so you'll have to shower the traditional way, from the filled bucket and flush your toilet the same way. 
- Food is terrible, there is a choice between a very low quality nasi goreng, pop mie, mie goreng and soaked in oil french fries. You'll have to order your fish in advance (this is pretty ok but make sure that it is grilled enough, we had to bring back the fish to have it correctly grilled)
- On the 4 bungalows we rented, one roof was leaking and the rain poured right on the mattras during the night :-(

Mas Dario was our highlight is our 3 nights stay, he is working there, he managed to take us around by boat where it was the less crowded (which was a challenge on a long week end), made boats for 3 of the kids, showed them fishes when he had spare time and above all, he was cleaning the bottom of the sea as, right on the beaches, visitors throw their straws, plastic glasses, plastic bags, etc...

The luxury of a private island but with many compromises

Our reservation, made several weeks ago, was cancelled by Menjangan Resort 2 days before arriving. Due to high season it was very difficult for us (family with 3 children) to find an alternative. I did read previous reviews about last minute cancellations but could not believe it, untill now. Thanks to another hotel/guesthouse we obtained bungalows in another place.
If you want to be 100% sure of your reservation Menjangan resort might not be the place to be.

if you want to run away from your routine, dreaming to back into situation where all you need is just peace, sound of wave, bird singing, in your own private island, dont wanna think anything just relax, its the place. traditional resort, no technology, in small island with extreme beautiful beach with very very soft white-sand, and amazing surrounding, and one more : cheap! you will hate leave this place :p. the sea show you amazing color : 3 different color, no wave. several details make living here feel so unforgettable. and white old long chair on the beach close to the sea, hanging swing on the shallow sea, long dock jutting out to the sea. stay here is amazing experience for me. anyway its not good for the one who looking for luxury resort. its a "back to nature" resort with minimalist facility but maximum experience :)

lost in paradise

With two friends and our guides, Jack and Wawan, we had the best time on Menjangan resort in Karimunjawa national park. They showed us so much, took us snorkeling and cooked amazing fresh fish for our dinner. They are such lovely guys and did all they could to make our stay wonderful. I recommend anyone to go to Karimunjawa national park in Indonesia, particularly Menjangan (the small island off the main island is where we stayed). One side of the island is calm with waves gently lapping the beach and the other is more wild. You can walk around the island in one hour. Out of 16 months traveling this island was the most beautiful - an ideal paradise and not as many tourists as other places. Thank you Wawan and Jack for showing us such an amazing time!
