I was in Lombok twice over the past month and stayed at Bruce's Hideout both times because I wanted to be in Gerupuk to surf and relax. The first time I stayed, I was in a flat perched on the hillside above the beach. It was a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom flat with a kitchen and had a beautiful view of Gerupuk Bay and the mountains across the bay.

The second time, I stayed in the cottage on the beach. It had the same amenities as the flat on the hillside, but it was right on the beach. The view is looking the same direction, which is to the east, so you get amazing sunrises. During sunset, it's very peaceful and the brightness is not overwhelming because the sun is behind you.

My favorite spot was to chill in the hammock and listen to the ocean. During really high-tides, the water comes all the way up to the sea wall and you feel like you're on a boat. Not something you get to experience too often.

One of the big pluses that I really appreciated about Bruce's place is they supply clean water and coffee in the rooms. They also stock the fridge with beers that you can pay for at the end of your stay. The coffee and water are free though.

Stayed here twice and LOVED it

This place is a rip off for what you pay. 
We looked at both options, one on the hill usd 50 and beachfront cottage usd 75 
We ended up choosing beachfront. 

On the hill my sons bed would have been out in the open air with a bamboo blind. In the windy weather. It’s windy season.
Also the steep walk down the hill was through a very smelly dirty village quite unhygienic. 
Down on the beach it was pretty windy but extra bed which is tiny was at least inside main bedroom. 
There is NO hot water - doesn’t tell you on website. Shower was very basic. 
Everything was old and tired. Thin blankets,  we asked for more (even a doona) got old smelly things. 
Cutlery was rusty sure it’s on the beachfront and exposed to the elements but more reason to be on top of maintenance. 
Makeshift Sarongs as curtains. 

Overall I was was really dissapointed with Gerupuk we decided to not stay the night even as it was cold and windy and I didn’t want a bad nights sleep on my holiday in a rip off accommodation. 
The fishing village is quite dirty the plastic and rubbish on the beach really bad, with fish heads everywhere walking on the beach felt really unpleasant in the village. My teenage kids were over it. We left. Sorry Gerupuk but really need to clean up, if you want tourism. Sad reality. 
We are not super fussy people and open to experiences but this was not one I wanted on my holiday. 

Bad experience 

Bruce's Hideout is an excellent place to stay in Gerupuk / South Lombok. Situated in the beautiful quiet fishing village of Gerupuk, you'll have excellent views of the bay and a couple surf-spots from all of the villas. We've always stayed in the hilltop villas, but the beach ones are also great. If you want to go for a surf there are many rental shops for boards etc (I'd recommend Banyu) where you can also arrange a boat and guide. Bruce is a complete dude, and will take good care of you! Apart from some great surfing spots, it's also nice to walk along the peninsula at sunrise or sunset. Tanjun Aan beach is also very close, and well-worth a visit. Great place to stay in Gerupuk

If you are used to good living then this is the place to stay.
Very clean lovely position halfway up a hill overlooking the bay.
Anything you need just ask Tania Bruces wife will sort it out.
The organise scooters @60k a day with a surf rack and 50k a day without. There is no paddle out to a surf break you need a boat but no worries Tania will sort it out and a boat will pick you up at the beach opposite the entrance for 150k a trip. 
There is a fridge with nice cold beers. For those wanting to cook there is a gas burner,toaster  and cooking utensils.
The room we had was more like an apartment open plan kitchen lounge dining room separate bedroom with its own air con and a separate bath room which was huge.
There are a few steps to get up to the apartment so if you don't like steps book a chalet on the beach front instead.
This was the best place we stayed in on Lombok just wish there were more places like it in Kuta.

The only place to stay in Gerupuk

We had a breathtaking view of the sea from the villa which is located in the highest point of the property. The villa was extremely spacious with a huge kitchen, living area, dining and two bedrooms. I love the exquisite rock stone flooring especially when you are a surfer and you would be walking around with wet clothes. The place is simply divine because you can cook though it was hard to get the ingredients around. It would be nice to rent a bike to explore the area. Tania and Bruce were amazing hosts - warm and accommodating.

Excellent Place to stay in Gerupuk, Lombok!

One of the most romantic little beach side bungalows I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Be woken up by a gorgeous sunrise everyday. Head out for a paddle at the nearby break. Chill out with Kapu the skate boarding doggo. I visited back in 2013 and have done nothing but recommend Bruce’s to every traveler heading to Indo. Do yourselves a favour. Check it out! 

Bliss

Amazing hostess, Tania, was warm and friendly and really made us feel at home. 

We stayed in the Cush Villa which I would do again as it had amazing views and was a really comfy stay! Only downside was there was no hot water (available in the other villas), but it was so hot anyway.

Went spear fishing against the cliffs with reef which Tania organized and got some nice fish!
