The rooms are clean, clean crisp sheets. Bathroom clean with western toilet, shower head and a small sink.  Rooms have open closets, counter space and desk space.  There is lots of lighting- this place is more modern than other places I have stayed in Indonesia.

The lobby is quirky and fun, but there aren't really common areas for travelers, as it's more of a hotel vibe than a guesthouse.  It's a quiet place.

The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Decent, worth it

Super clean, modern hotel with friendly, highly efficient staff, great art on the walls and pleasant rooms with comfortable beds. The only slight letdown is the lack of a passenger lift in this three story building. There is, however, a service lift for bags so this is only really an issue if you have a disability which would make stairs a problem. I believe there are two rooms on the ground floor.
Soft drinks, beer and ice cream are available from a fridge by reception and there is free water on each floor.
The early morning cab they organised for us to the airport was a very reasonable R60,000

Great value and very well run

Clean, large rooms and interdecorations are so cool. Friendly staff, good location but yeah, some of the rooms are noicy because of traffic. But still, Istanaku, both 1 and 2, gives you the best value for money in Manado!

The guesthouse is nice and cool! The room was clean and comfortable and there’s a nice and windy terrace where to relax! 
The best thing was the staff, very friendly and helpfull for everything!!! (And they have fresh beers!!!) 😊😊

Great place to stay!!!

i will definitely stay here again when visiting Manado! If you are on a budget (even if you're not), you should consider to stay here. The room was very clean, comfortable bed, excellent hot shower, spacious room with unique design! Location was excellent, nearby souvenir shops and hipping "Tuna House" cafe. It is superb for a guest house/budget hotel class! I was staying on their "fit for 3 persons" room and it was exceptionally low budget with excellent quality.

Amazing budget hotel!

I have stayed at both Istanaku 1 and 2 (which is located across the road). The hostels have been decorated with love- there are interesting cartoonish illustrations on the walls, and various other quirky paraphernalia throughout, which I really appreciate (though this may not appeal to everyone).

The hostels are also extremely affordable, and the staff are really friendly and proactive. As well as breakfast, there is a restaurant which serves meals though the day.   

The hostels are located a little bit far away from the larger malls, but still fairly close to the centre of town. If you have not already, you should download the Go-Jek app so you can travel around Manado affordably. 

The area around the hostels can be a bit noisy at night. The rooms can be a little cold- but you can find an extra blanket in the cupboards if needed.

Cool, affordable hostel with great staff

the rooms are very nice and clean. comfortable beds, air-conditioned breakfast, roof chilling area at your disposal, nice breakfast, funky cozy interior, elevator for luggages, but the best part is the friendly staff. they helped us a lot with many things. we came back twice and would not hesitate to come back again. I would recommend to pay a bit extra choose the deluxe rooms, the standard are bit small, but good enough if you wanna stay only one night.

The Friendliest Staff Ever

Very friendly staff and extra clean rooms but the hotel is so LOUD ! We were woken up multiple times both during the night and in the morning. The sound was magnified in the corridors and people seemed to be walking around and talking (shouting ?) all night long. I definitly do not recommand this hotel for anyone in need of a good night's sleep.

Too loud

Absolutely loved our stay here at Istanaku Guesthouse 2. Its IDR 80,000 ($6) via taxi from the airport but if you can get Grab Taxi its like IDR 60,000. We initially booked for 3 nights but ended up staying for 6 nights. Per night we were charged IDR 300,000 ($22.40) breakfast included. There were drinking water filters on the hallway of the floors. There were hot water available on those filters so we were able to make tea/coffee as well. The location was really good. There was a nice restaurant called Tuna House just 50 meters away (average meal for two is between $10 - $15). There was another restaurant called RM Raja Oci (average meal for two is between $5 - $15 depending on how many dishes you order). The mall is 20 minutes walking but you can get bemos for IDR 5,000 per person.

The staff are superb. They helped with finding good restaurants, finding/giving directions to local interesting places, even helping us with our luggage into our taxi 2AM!!!! All of them were very nice but one of them helped us the most was Verdan (i hope i got the spelling right).

Highly recommend this hotel. Would stay in this hotel again.

Amazing place to stay... would stay here AGAIN!!!!

We stayed there just for one night,  to catch an early morning flight the next day. The rooms are small but clean, the place is reasonably quiet. It is some distance to the center, it is ok to walk ~20 min during the day but the streets are a bit dark at night. The morning of our departure,  the taxi we had booked did not show up- fortunately, the staff heped us and within minutes, another one (gocar) was there.
