I stayed a few days at this hotel. It is located in Payangan, a small village north of Ubud. If you want to experience real Bali this hotel and place is worth a visit. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can always ask them for help and for information. They explained everything and tried to find the best solution for me. The rooms are also very clean and nice and I felt very comfortable there. Free Wifi is offered. With your stay you also support a social project due to the fact that the hotel is part of a training school for balinese pupils. So in total I would absolutely recommend this hotel!

Very nice local hotel with super friendly staff

I was staying here the last two weeks and I found that experience to be wonderful. The whole STEP team is always friendly and helpful and the students serve you fresh local "Bali kopie" or tea. Fresh fruits for breakfast let my day start really healthy. The students cleaned the room every day and took care of not just the basics, but also the small things (like decorating the pillows and linen of the beds in shape of flowers). The view from my balcony of the Ayung River was just amazing and let you feel like you are right in the Balinese jungle. The kids from school were very curious to see, meet and talk to people from different cultures. I enjoyed them appreciating my visit very much. 
I can highly recommend this place to people who want to experience the real Balinese culture and society. You can get involved in many traditional activities and support the students to get the best education, a mixture of theory and practice in one place. I also did some volunteering there, I taught English and Tourism which was a lot of fun. So if you also want to do something like this, people appreciate it very much, but also only a nice cozy holiday is seen with amazement. So either as a guest or as a volunteer, come and see this unique place of Bali :-)

Excellent hotel run by tourism students

I work in hospitality and my intention of booking this hotel is to help the local students and at the same time enjoy a tranquil stay in basic accommodation. 

The rooms itself is quite basic, decent bed, every room is as big as USD500 equivalent suite, nice shower but do not expect for bathtub. However, the major letdown in terms of facilities is none of the rooms comes with aircon. I am still inclined to agree that Westerners would love this hotel but Asian from tropical climate would find the an accommodation without air condition is challenging. 

View from this hotel rooms are amazing: paddy field and an active volcano. Sunrise and sunset is mesmerizing. Checkout few photos that I took. 

Service was world class, because this is training students that we are talking about and they are eager to prove themselves. From housekeeping turndown service/ make up service, room service, breakfast, arrival and departure experience was all nothing short of fantastic enthusiasm delivered by the students. 

For the super low room rate, they still provide ala minute set meal basic western breakfast. A good start for the day and the tropical fruits served with natural yogurt was a very healthy option. My whole family of 12 really enjoyed the personalized service of breakfast and the quality of food. 

Now the bumps about this hotel. This hotel is not that suitable if you are traveling in a big group or family. Because distance to UBUD town is quite a challenge and locating this hotel for the fist time was absolute nightmare. From the road side of Kg Payangan Road, you can't locate the signboard nor any building landmark of this hotel. Hence, DEAR TRAVELERS PLEASE DO NOT REACH THE HOTEL PAST DARK HOURS. Try to reach there while the driver that leading you there can clearly locate the school of SMK Kg Payangan then make an entry to the school so you will see this hotel at the back of the school. You will understand when you see my photos later. The hotel's management really have to improve the signage, lighting and arrival service assurance to all your guest who is placing their booking with you. 

To all those travelers who are sick with corporate - city hectic life. You would find this place as a jewel. If you are on sabbatical leave then this place is made for you as you can interact with the students who will make you feel you are at home, the absolute peace at night with owl howling and the surrounding to give you the serenity needed in our dear life. Above that, if you will be staying for long like 2 -3 weeks, it would not hurt your pocket. 

Hopefully my review would help to add more bookings and helping the poor local students to have a decent studies in their life.

Hotel by Tourism School - basic but nice 

I was stayed for a couple of the night at STEP Ubud Training Hotel. Our room was clean. I really loved that our room was all surrounded by plants and nature.the staff or student was amazing even though this hotel is part of local tourism school as training project but they are really helpful.Overall, we had a very nice experience at this hotel!. 

Nice Surroundings.

Sustainable Hotel That is part of the by students of the local tourism school as a training protect. Rooms of highest standard and perfect service - all carried out by the very motivated students themselves. Good opportunity to support local education without missing out on comfort. Well recommended!
