Horrible experience.

This is a very old hotel, and did not maintain /update their facilities for long time.  Trip advisor showed good reviews before Covid time. However, as many travellers say in  recent reviews, this hotel has full of dust and mold.  

We paid extra for larger room with bathtubs.  But  I have never seen that bathroom was so dirty with dust , stain, and mold.. The amenities were never changed for long time, so packaging had stains & out of date.   The fridge & aircon were broken.  Inside of fridge had mold.  The coffee mugs and spoons  were left as the previous traveler used, and never washed. So sugar was sticked to these items.  

This hotel was booked for us by our travel agency. They quickly changed our hotel to another hotel due to this horrible situation.  

Extremely dirty.  Seriously need to clean.

Please don't forget to try the dishes from the Luta's restaurant...

cozy hotel

This is a lovely hotel.  The people are nice and it is very clean.  The cost is average.  The breakfast is good.  There is a cook to make eggs to order. They don't have an elevator but the bus boys carry bags to and from the room.  It would be difficult for older or disabled people on the stairs.   My only complaint is that the pool is too cold.  Hard to believe in the tropics.  I have stayed here twice and would stay here again.

August visit

Start with the good points. The hotel has nice leafy courtyard and backs on to a river with lovely mountain views. At breakfast you can sit and watch the world go by to the sounds of rushing water. Rooms are large, those at the back have great views. Good selection of food on the dinner menu and dishes are immaculately prepared and tasty. Breakfast is basic but more than sufficient. Location is convenient with sights, shops and restaurants a short walk away. For the area - generally - this hotel offers a good standard and great value. 

On to the bad. 
- Strike one, when trying to find plug sockets I pulled the bedside table out only to find behind hadn’t been cleaned for some time. It was disgusting with a huge amount of dust, hair, food and skin particles accumulated. We stayed in two rooms at the beginning and end of our tour - I checked in the second room and it was the same. 
- Strike two, a more minor one but frustrating nonetheless - the WiFi signal is very poor especially at the back rooms where it was actually impossible to connect. Either make sure connection is good or don’t offer it at all and certainly don’t advertise you offer it when it’s impossible to use. 
- Strike three which was my biggest issue - keeping eagles in tiny, bare cages in the courtyard. This part of the world isn’t known for being kind to animals maybe but this unnecessary cruelty and outdated attitude is totally unacceptable. I suggest the hotel owner (who the staff told us owns the birds) considers letting his “pets” go free. Tourists do not appreciate seeing large, intelligent raptors in dirty, insufficient enclosures where they can barely stretch their wings. It is doing more harm to the business than good.

Would have been 4 stars but animal cruelty brought it down

This hotel is clean the room is excellent, the FO team, restaurant team are friendly. Ibu Caroline very helpful and promt response. The location is trategic. The food in restaurant is recomennded. I like staying at this hotel. I will come back again.

Recommended Hotel

Again, quite tricky to do a fair review of hotels in Toraja, since their qualities are lower than other places. Despite some other larger hotels around Toraja, I would say this hotel is probably the best for your stay. Although because of the price, might not be the best value you would get in the area. In other places, this would probably be an average hotel, but in Toraja region I just have to give them 4 out of 5 on my rating.
Location is excellent in the town center, walking distance to many places. Rooms are definitely one of the cleanest rooms I found around Toraja. Breakfast was good. The hotel is not big, so it's easy to reach your room (especially after a tiring day full of activities). I seriously recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Toraja region.

Excellent location at Town center, comfortable clean rooms

This hotel has so much potential. The building is pretty, swimming pool looks great, location is great  but....
Poor fish in the fish tank don’t have enough water or plants. Poor birds are in small cages walking around in their own feaces. Restaurant staff is only busy with their phones, don’t even say good morning. We ran out of toiletpaper. Towels were ruffled. Bathroom sink was full of calcium and dirt. I guess they just don’t really care. Such a shame!

Potential but sad at the moment

We had a superior room overlooking the river. It was quiet and comfortable. The staff were attentive although language differences made it a bit of a problem but they seemed to have enough of a grasp of English to get you what you needed. Room was fine, shower with plastic curtain a bit tight but fine. Water there is very iron filled so lots of rust looking residue everywhere but after all, we are not in North America right. Aru, our guide suggested this place but one of the reviewers complained about noise and a door that did not close properly so I was reluctant. I looked at another 4* hotel first and was advised bu Aru that I should check out the Luta. He did know better. So, if you are on a tight budget then go elsewhere. It is not expensive by NA standards and the options otherwise are old and mouldy. No, it’s not the Sheraton...but it is just fine. 

Best of them all

Centrally located in Rantepao. Near restaurants and shops. 
Suites facing the river are more quiet.
Very low value for the high price paid.
The price is very high by Sulawesi standards.
They never answered several messages I sent through Booking.com.
An unfriendly person in the front desk (woman).
Restaurant with limited and poor quality menu. Breakfast buffet is also very limited.
The worst WiFi signal we have had after staying in five hotels in three Indonesian islands. Even at the lobby you have a hard time to use internet. They don’t seem to be concerned about that because they have this problem since a long time ago.
They do not provide hand towels even if you are in a “junior suite”. The shower has fungi.
We asked for an extension of our check out time (the hotel was almost empty) and it was denied.
Will not return.


Very low value for the high price paid

The room is clean and the people there ibu Caroline is so humble and friendly.
Only the net or internet connection is so bad, I can not use it hopefully next time I come to this hotel the net connection is better.
