A cozy resort with touches of traditional Javanese architecture and designs. Clean rooms, nothing too fancy but comfortable enough with hot shower (both indoor and outdoor!), wifi, and a kitchenette attached.
Friendly, accommodating staffs. Varied, delicious breakfast menu everyday (can be delivered to your bungalow’s porch upon request). Bicycles to ride around the surrounding villages with no additional charge (on a “first come, first served” basis).
Location-wise, it’s pretty remote from the city centers, and this can be a double-edged sword—it’s so quiet it feels like you’re in your own private sanctuary, but it can also be a bit of a hassle to reach “civilization” when you need to. It’s close to many ancient temples from Indonesia’s Hindu-Buddhist past, though, so it’s another plus if you’re a history buff like me. 
I recommend Joglo Ayem Tentrem to anyone looking for a pause from the hustle and bustle of city life with affordable budget to spend. I hope I can stay there again on my future trip(s) to Yogyakarta.

A hidden gem with the best value price-wise

Checked out of a terrible hotel (Tjokro) and came here instead. What a breath of relief. Decent hotel with good staff.  

I would recommend staying here. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. And my stay was very pleasant.

I really liked this place. The staff were very warm and accommodating. The rooms were very basic (but mine came with an outdoor shower!), but the setting was beautiful, with an open air restaurant (the singkong goreng, or fried cassava was to die for, even if they didn't have any sambal to go with it - they prepared this for me when I got back late after the restaurant closed).  I came during the Holy Month of Ramadan. If you travel during Ramadan, please be aware that people get up early to eat before sunrise, and once up, they go about their business. In my case, that meant that someone in the house behind the hotel started beating rugs at 5 am.  No sleeping in!  The one thing to know is that while this is in walking distance from Prambanan, it is a very hot walk and a long trek through heavy traffic once you reach the temple area, the gate being on the other side. I'd recommend downloading the GoJek ride hailing app for inexpensive and convenient lifts when you need them.  But do walk around to a nearby village and experience rural Javanese life. It is beautiful.

Beautiful and friendly inn surrounded by rice paddies

Very nice place, smiling team, helpful and good advice. Clean and comfortable room, wifi in the room and outdoor shower. Food is good and varied and various drinks are available at the reception. In the middle of the Javanese countryside it is nice to live in joglo and allowed us to rest and visit the temples around the hotel thanks to the bikes loaned free by the hotel.

Just like I imagined.

As part of a development aid project, we stayed for 12 days with a group of seven people in the Joglo Ayem Tentrem. For a group of our size, the hotel with its two traditional villas has been almost ideal. It offers enough space for retreats as well as joint activities. Due to the many leaves and trees, you can spend the whole day outside at pleasant temperatures. Especially beautiful is the quiet environment and the beautifully landscaped garden with many tropical fruits that can be eaten directly from the tree. A breakfast buffet with a mix of local and western food was included in the price. The good and very loving service is especially outstanding.

A quiet traditional hotel with loving service

We stayed one night before visiting Prambanan. The room was very comfortable with a small kitchen and private terrace. The breakfast is local (salted yarns, tea and papaya) and good. The staff is adorable. They dropped us off at the entrance to the Prambanan site and then came to pick us up for a small sum. They also ordered us a taxi to get to Yogyakarta at a very affordable rate. The restaurant next door serves a cheap local cuisine. The environment is finally pleasant amidst the rice fields and poor people. The only thing is to sell the small planes but it was not necessary to build the airport next to Prambanan! We highly recommend!

Calmness in the Javanese Country

We stayed in Joglo Ayem for two nights during our high school reunion in Yogyakarta. There were about 30 of us and we booked the whole establishment. It was perfect ambient for get together and big family. There are two main villas with 3 - 4 room inside and 4 separate rooms in the same complex. Rooms are comfortable, and clean. The interior is traditional Javanese style with nice details. The owner was quite flexible and attentive, She allowed us using the kitchen, for preparing our simple meal or just brewing fresh coffee. The location may be a bit out of Yogyakarta city center, and closer to Prambanan. So make sure you plan ahead if you want to have trip downtown Yogyakarta.

Perfect Place for Reunion/ Family Gathering

We chose this hotel as it is located near to the airport. Airport pickup costs 50k rupiah.
We were given a warm welcome and checked in directly to our rooms. As we arrived late, we ordered fried rice. It was simple and delicious. Next morning, breakfast was served right outside at the patio. Nice!
The staff are so friendly. The hotel is quaintly designed. We had a good time!

Little gem hidden away

Beautiful location, super comfortable rooms with excellent bed. Quiet at night. The perfect place to relax. The staff went above and beyond to help us before and during the trip. Be sure to try their wedang uwuh tea. Breakfast was lovely, too! We were sad to leave!

The most relaxing part of our trip!

The food was good and staff during check in was very friendly, while the one during check out was not that friendly. He did not smile, greeted us and asked whether our stay good or not (maybe he's just in a bad mood). The room was nice, clean and homey, even though the ambiance in the room was not too traditional. There is a pantry in the room with cutlery which will be good if you bring your family but will not be useful if you stay alone or couple. The hotel is near to Prambanan, Ratu Boko, Sambisari Temple, and Adisucipto International Airport. Electricity socket were far from bed, wifi is not working, the headboard of the bed is not comfortable so we cannot lean back. Google map took us to the wrong direction (luckily it's not too far), the staff said it happened many times because their address has changed. they do not have great view from the room and pool but ok compared to the price.
