Leaving a review here after a shocking experience with this Indigo Tree / Eden Estates on AirBnB.

The listing there is totally misleading. The restaurant is shut, the place feels partly abandoned and partly like a half-hearted construction site. The staff had been instructed by management not to provide water to guests in the rooms. The rooms themselves smelt of damp and had a refuse dump marring the advertised "beautiful view".

The manager (Uma on AirBnB) promised a full refund on the day as there was no way we could not stay here with my pregnant partner and then totally ghosted us on AirBnB and then proceeded to ghost us in chat and via the resolution centre. Now having to get AirBnB involved directly.

Short story: STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.

I’m really not sure about it - it’s clearly trading under different names (e.g. here it is called Indigo Tree, but when you arrive it is called Eden Estates). We booked through Airbnb. It is not someone’s villa or apartment - it is a hotel. Not at all what I expected. I assumed it would be a villa somewhere near Ubud, but it is a whole complex. Took us a while to
find it (we actually had to be found by staff!) as there are zero signs. The hotel looks like it’s either about to close or that it has only just opened. It could be great, but it isn’t! No one contacted me about where I was staying - I tried so many ways to chase up on the day, and finally got through to a number that was listed, and then communicated through WhatsApp. We had no power or water when we arrived. It was sorted after a couple of hours but no one seemed to know what to do. Seeing as it is a hotel with a restaurant on site, it was pretty awful that they did not give water to guests. The manager was never around when we tried to raise issues about the power and drinking water. Pools were dirty, there was rubbish lying around - including a nappy by the pool steps. It was a construction site next to the building we were staying... Location wasn’t an issue for us, but would have been if we hadn’t hired a scooter. Glad we only stayed for two days. If we had travelled from the UK then we would have been sorely disappointed. The furnishings are beautiful, and the pools could be awesome if properly maintained. 

This place could be amazing...

Read the reviews, I promise not one of them was exaggerated. I’d personally highlight, it is dirty, even though there are more than 10 people working constantly on the land every day, and unfortunately it is unprofessionally managed. Our room, alpha3, had a private pool, which was okay to swim in, but the other two communal swimming pools were super dirty. 

It is really a shame because the place could be an absolute dream, with all the design, natural features and decorations, location is just right, away from the crowd but still close to everything. There were absolutely no bugs or insects in the house which is very positive. The restaurant offers several different dishes, breakfast is nice, but does get boring after a few days so I would not recommend to eat there every single day unless you haven’t got any other options.

All the bad reviews are true

Loved staying here, beautiful room and staff! The views from the room were amazing, looking out onto the rainforest. Great food, loved the dinners and the spring rolls were very popular in our group! Would recommend!

Lovely stay, beautiful resort!

The location of the property is great, in the middle of the rice plantation and away from the noise and the crowd.
The hotel is charming, atmosphere is nice, this is a very peaceful environment. Decoration is local and of very good taste. 3 different swimming pools, lots lot ponds and tropical plants.
Service was good. 
I loved it and especially as we got an upgrade upon arrival. 

Definitely recommend it !

We've tried to write an airbnb review under the listing of 'LUXURY TWO BEDROOM VILLA' BY MADE but it has not yet shown up. This listing is a total scam. The standards were nothing short of scandalous. 

When we arrived there was a horrible smell coming from what is described as 'a brand new luxury villa'. At first glance the floors were covered with ants and sticky, the windows were dirty, the WiFi did not work at all, and the sink was filled with UNDRAINED WATER. 
Upon further inspection we found additional and more horrifying things. 

First, the stairs to the upstairs bath were wooden planks that were not attached and were very easy to trip over, our WATER DID NOT WORK resulting in us not being able to shower for the entire first day, also we could not use the bath at all which is a huge selling point for this villa. Also the AC DID NOT WORK well and when it was on it dripped water onto the head of whoever was sleeping under it (it is directly above the bed). We found HUGE ANTHILL INSIDE of the villa. They were about 6 inches high  and lined all along the wall of the living space. To top everything off there was a CARCASS of some animal found in our bedroom. 

When we brought our issues to the staff the anthill were cleaned and the carcass was removed. They also washed the bottom parts of all of the windows (all things that should have been done before we checked in). Let me remind you that this has the price of and is advertised as a brand new luxury villa. These issues are not acceptable and I would expect any villa owner to agree. I've stayed in villas for a fraction of this price that were much nicer than this one. 

After having made a complaint when getting the opportunity (there was nobody available at the desk when we first wanted to do so),  some basic cleaning was done but only on the surface. Our more pertinent complaint that the whole place required a deep clean went ignored. As was the complaint we made regarding the bath not working and the almost complete lack of water pressure.  

Upon contacting Airbnb the owner claimed that we didn't raise these points at the time and refused to refund us anything.  This is a total fabrication.  Their response was both inadequate and, finally as we were leaving, downright rude. It completely ruined what should have been a glorious stay in a wonderful part of the world.

Eden estates Horrible place with unpleasant management 

Eden Resort is simply stunning! Everything about my stay here was perfect. As a first time visitor to Bali I feel I enjoyed traditional Balinese hospitality - nothing was too much trouble for any of the super happy smiley staff and all of the grounds are immaculately tended and very clean. Oh and i enjoyed 3 exceptional massages whilst here too! Totally recommend! Thank you.

If you want to stay out of the hustle and bustle of Ubud this is the place to stay. Its authentically Bali in the sense that staff here are chilled friendly and super smiley. Great value for money and amazing sunrises. they run retreats at the sam time so if you are lucky you will hear AOOOMMMs in the morning. Great massages on offer and helpful staff!

Great stay, great staff and great value for money

I have been here 3 times now, and this time the energy has not only amplified but the place is blossoms, the staff are really working hard to please each person who arrives and the manager truly is a likeable guy, easy to talk with and he genuinely wants you to be happy. All in all this place is one of my favorite places in ubud and am stayibg another month here. I appreciate a place that grows, learns and listens to positive criticism and acts on it.

A perfect energy

I was initially very concerned about the property that we had booked via AirBNB due to the amount of negative reviews I found on google and elsewhere, but we were overwhelmingly happy with our experience at Eden Estates. 

We had a group of 13 and we stayed in the large retreat villa, and the rooms were beautiful, with daily cleaning and towel changes. Perhaps they gave us more attention as a large group but I'll list the positives and negatives that we experienced and how they compared to the other reviews I read:

Things I really liked about my stay:
- absolutely beautiful decor in the villas. Lovely statues, paintings & overall decor. 
- staff & manager were helpful and friendly, again perhaps as a retreat group it was better for us
- rooms were beautiful, AC worked fine + no issues, and clean. Beds were hard but this will depend on your preference.
- Olympic sized pool was clean, well maintained and wonderful
- food was delicious, fresh, and noone in our group had any digestive issues whatsoever. Prices were a bit high in my opinion for the area in general but still very reasonable
- the grounds were constantly maintained & cleaned
- massages received overall positive response from our group
- there were actually less bugs overall (its Bali so theres still bugs) than anticipated

Things that were not as good that corroborated with reviews I read online  (plus some comments)
- weak Wifi in rooms [hit and miss overall, better by the restaurant and great at the front lobby]; not so much an issue for us as were on a retreat
- shuttle inconsistent: some people in our group were not picked up by the shuttle in town, but upon a message to management they were picked up shortly
- restaurant being slow: 2 people in the kitchen + one waitress... can be slow when theres a big group for sure but everything is cooked fresh. Not sure what they can do about this as I felt that they were preparing & serving as fast as possible!
- they do not provide complimentary water bottles for the rooms [especially since tap water is not drinkable]
- add A/C unit for the common areas in the villas... they heat up alot in the day [glass walls]
- the road getting to and leaving the villa could use some work!

I will note again that this was our experience as a larger group & everybody loved the place. I could see it being less ideal for a couple or a smaller group. For any future retreat we are strongly considering returning to this property in the future!
