Pawon Coklat is one of the best options to stay in Jogja. It's very closed to Tugu train station and Malioboro about 5 minutes walking. The room is clean and staffs are nice. They served Indonesian and western breakfast and also provide free towel, soap and shampoo. The bathroom is clean, has hot water but the flow is slightly small and you have to wait for a few minutes to turn on the hot water. 

Ps: buy mineral water in here is cheaper than the convienience stores in Malioboro.

Affordable accommodation in Jogja

The location itself is in the centre of jogja city and very near to famous malioboro street..the reception staff is polite and willing to help but not so good if converse in english luckily i am from malaysia so there's no problem to comunicate with them in bahasa indonesia..the breakfirst is good and delicious with selection of indonesian (nasi goreng and mee goreng) or western style (scrambled egg with toast and hotdog) plus a cup of tea or coffee..
Only one thing dissapoint me is on 5d4n i stayed there nobody from housekeeping coming and tidy up my room not even change the towel..its no problem for me as solo traveller but what happen if you travel with family and small kids?..i think the management should deep looking into this matter.

One reason for picking this guesthouse was the good location, which is has in deed because it's pretty close to Malioboro street. But once arrived we had to face the first hurdles: We booked 2 rooms for 6 people  but got only 2 rooms with each having one queen sized bed. The stuff didn't speak even a bit of English, so we tried using google translate. They finally offered a spare mattress but wanted to charge quite a lot for it plus there wasn't really space for it and this was very small for 2 kids age 10 and 12. Finally we got it for free after I complained a lot, since I've booked for 6 people and didn't get the point why they would offer 2 beds only. Very disappointing was, that the cafe/ restaurant wasn't there as written in the internet. Let's say, there was one theoretically, but it wasn't open. So during the day time we couldn't even get a drink apart from tea and coffee which was there the whole day. Also for breakfast there was nothing for the kids, no hot chocolate, just black tea and coffee, which you can't offer to kids. Not very nice was the noise from airplanes, but much worse from the neighbour house they were taking down. So you can imagine how it sounds if they're taking down walls by big hammers. So our night was terrible. The huge!!! cockroach ( and I already know big ones because we're living in Singapore) which was on top of our bed and crawling underneath the mattress, where there was no way to get it out (the way the beds were build), didn't help there. Lots of ants were used from Singapore so we didn't mind them too much. So altogether not to recommend at all. I can't understand the good reviews I've read before, neither could anybody else who travelled with me.

Disappointing, noisy and not well maintained

November last year, I traveled to Yogyakarta and picked this guesthouse. It was a bit hard to find the building, as it is located in a very small alley near Malioboro, not accessible with car or motorcycle. Not because it was too small, but bike is not allowed in small alley in Yogya. I think it is going to be very hard for you if you bring way too big luggage, for you have to *walk*, though not too long. But it's all worth it.

I was escorted to my room in 2nd floor, and the room is so comfortable. No noisy sound whatsoever around the building. It is so good for you to take a rest. But remember to close the curtain of your door, for the room is visible to other people in the building across the Pawon Cokelat.

They have a cafe/resto, which I didn't actually try, but you will have your breakfast there. The cafe/resto is very insta-worthy, I saw many teens coming to take pictures.

Isolated, secluded, in the heart of Yogyakarta.

I must say it is a value for money. We were lucky that they received a walk-in for most of the time they are fully booked. 

Located quite strategic, within walking distance of the famous Malioboro street. Quite friendly staff, and a safe neighbourhood. Funny murals are on the wall in their alley. Every alley here has their own character. 

Cosy room, I will definitely come again with my husband.

If I have to file a complain, is their no-tinted glass. Should have consideration for that.

Just a suggestion, if they provide a complimentary hot chocolate drink for the customers, that would be a great selling point, apart from their instagrammable spaces in the guesthouse.
