Fabulous two day luxury break which exceeded all our expectations.
After a very warm welcome, we had a delicious three course lunch, followed by a short, but very detailed tour and history of Ballyfinm given by Joe who is definitely a fine asset to the hotel. Think of Downton Abbey but twice as grand and you might be close to describing this establishment. Our package was, DBB and lunch and every meal was superb with every little detail and request perfectly handled by a most professional team. Training is obviously very important in Ballyfinm as the standard of service was exemplary.  We stayed in a state room over-looking the front of the house and lake, again, everything expected from a top 5 star hotel was available and more.  
We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and this was acknowledged tastefully by the hotel and staff, for which we are very grateful. 
Thank you all at Ballyfinn and we hope to return.

Fabulous two day luxury break which exceeded all our expectations.

Previous reviews will have spelt out what a fabulous place Ballyfin is. From the house itself with it's magnificent history and intricate and exquisite details and interior design, to the beautiful grounds and of course, the wonderful staff. The food is also first class with its Irish themed dishes made with local produce. The peace and quiet when you walk the grounds where all you hear is birdsong is a truly welcome break from normal, hectic life. Make sure you take the tour if you go there, it is well worth it and it's fascinating. A wonderful place, it has to be experienced to be appreciated.

A truly magnificent hotel

Fabulous time at Ballyfin, there was real luxury, wonderful food, and lovely people working here.  Thoroughly enjoyed. Will be back. They have a vintage dress-up night on Saturdays which is fantastic fun, and brings you back in time to what it must have been like to live there 150 years ago.

Fantasic Royal Experience from the moment you arrive

I'm giving Ballyfin 1 star - I am unable to comment on the hotel or the food... why I hear you ask? Well it's because unless you are a resident you can not enter the hotel grounds or dine at lunchtime... this, I must say, was not clear on their website.  So after driving over an hour from Dublin, and 20 minutes round the back roads of Laois, to be told I couldn't dine as I was not a resident was more than disappointing to say the least.  She did offer to add me to the 'non resident waiting list' for dinner which I politely declined. ( BTW this conversation took place over an intercom at the gate).
I'm sure it's a lovely hotel worthy of its 5 stars but not for non residents.

No room at the Inn for non residents

Absolutely beautiful,  amazing location fortunately backed up by equally amazing staff. We loved it. Nobody could do too much for us. Declan the porter was great, fully embedded in everything good about the place. Everyone stopped for a chat. Felt like a real and valued guest.

Go if you can

My favourite place to stay in Ireland. have been a loyal guest for 12 years and every year its still as beautiful and sumptuous. I think its a delight for all to see and experience. Absolutely Magnificent! The staff, the surroundings, the gardens the rooms and the food - fabulous! You float away feeling like to lived like a King and Queen for the night. 
Ballyfin its simply world class. 

Truly Exceptional. Once in a Lifetime

This hotel is one of the most elegant and customer oriented properties I have stayed in . It is full of old world charm and the service is impeccable. I loved every aspect of my stay and would recommend it to anyone who wants a special experience of a real Grand Country Manor , steeped in history. This is real quality .. hope it maintains like it is now ..Sublime 

Superb experience

Stayed for two nights on this property and the experience was truly amazing, the house has been brought back to its former glory and the level of detail was truly inspiring. The staff were absolutely perfect and could not do enough for us during our stay. Thanks to all at the hotel especially the butlers who kept us entertained and fires burning throughout the property. 

Truly an Amazing Experience

Our stay at Ballyfin was to celebrate a number of combined personal milestone events and it was definitely worth the wait! We booked a Relaxation Package for one night and from the moment we arrived, to when we left, we were really well looked after by all of the staff. It was lovely to hand over the car keys and be greeted with a glass of champagne by Lorraine, who was very welcoming as she gave us a brief tour of the house before we had lunch in the orangerie. The emphasis is on treating the house as your own and nothing was any bother.  Peter, the hotel manager, was a genial host and we enjoyed our chats with him throughout our stay.

We had a very interesting tour of the house with Kevin, one of the butlers, in the afternoon and headed off to explore the estate grounds on our own in a golf buggy afterwards.  One of the other guests had highly recommended the horse drawn carriage ride but the timing just didn't work for us unfortunately.

We had pre(and post)-dinner drinks in the Library and dinner in the State Room. While the food overall was delicious, we did find the starters on the a la carte menu a bit limiting (pork consommé or smoked eel) but that was more due to our own personal tastes and it wasn't a problem to pick a starter from the vegetarian menu instead. 

We took a dip the next morning in the pool and jacuzzi and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before heading to the spa for our treatments. I had a facial with Audrey and my husband had a massage with Deirdre and they were the perfect way to end our stay in Ballyfin.

Wonderful!

Accommodations, service and food were a true 5 Star Experience! Staff there is well trained and professional. The food and menu were superb and offered a variety of healthy and creative entrees at all 3 meals. The rooms were cleaned regularly every day with evening turn down service. They offer complimentary golf carts for driving around the beautiful gardens and grounds and around the lake. I hope we make it back here one day. If you visit Ireland, make this your last stop. It was the highlight of our trip.
