My husband and I had our 1st stay in Hanora's Cottage during the Easter holidays. It hopefully won't be our last! From the minute we arrived and were welcomed by the wonderful Ina, we felt right at home.  Everywhere was spotlessly clean and comfortable. It was a pleasure to meet Mary and her granddaughter Amy, who along with the fantastic Ina, make it a place where you walk in as strangers, but leave as friends, where you chat with the other guests as if you all knew each other. We ate there both nights and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was delicious both dinner and breakfast. Kudos to the kitchen! We will certainly be back and would have no hesitation in recommending Hanora's Cottage to all.

An absolute treasure!

Home from a lovely relaxed break in Hanora's Cottage. Both nights we sat by the fire and spent time, over gin & tonics, to select our choices for dinner....food & wine. Wine list included our favourites - Albariño & Montepulciano D'abruzzo, so we were very happy. Had lovely interaction with other guests and food was good. Choice available for breakfast was amazing.
Very little phone coverage meant total relaxation. Staff always had time for a friendly chat and one minor issue was dealt with promptly and efficiently.
Surrounding area is spectacular, particularly if you enjoy walking/ hiking.
Thanks for a lovely, much needed relaxed break.

Relaxed Short Break.

I visited this restaurant on a couple of occasions previously and was very happy to be returning for my birthday meal but have to say we were sorely disappointed with the whole experience. Poor quality food, sloppy and unprofessional service lead to a very unenjoyable evening. We considered complaining at the time but didn’t want to cause a fuss with other customers nearby. The kitchen and service staff need considerable training/replacing to get this restaurant back to its previous high standards.

Hugely disappointed

Disappointed is an understatement. Its such a huge pity as the venue is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. It was almost like a false sense of security that we were lead into at the beginning when we were brought into this gorgeous and very cosy waiting area/sitting room with a lovely warm stove. We were then brought to our seats, which were falling apart. Later on, I noticed a lady sitting near us had the same issue, her chair was near the end of its days. I noticed on every table they had shop bought salt and pepper that you would see on your Mother's kitchen table. The waitress brought the bread before starter arrived. We were allowed 1 slice of bread each. No little basket for the table. And the quality of the bread was poor. My starter was ok. But my friends were hugely disappointed with theirs. Crispy Chicken - I had a little taste and it was without a doubt boiled chicken breast that was reheated on the frying pan. And it wasn't fresh....a bit tangy. We weren't asked if we wanted drinks or wine until the started had arrived. The main courses were steaks and honestly you would cook better at home on a Tuesday evening after a long day at work. Mashed potatoes, carrot and red cabbage. I wouldn't be surprised if the mash potatoe was a packet of smash. Generally poor quality and presentation. I had porksteak and it looked like something you would put in a bad breakfast roll to cure your worst hangover. The food was just lobbed up on the plate. No finesse! The deserts were grand. Typical desert that you would have at your Granny's with a lob of HB Vanilla ice cream on the side. The waitresses were 2 middle aged, badly dressed women that you would see at a canteen of a cattle mart. The owner came to each table for a quick chat. She was very nice to be fair and I can understand the idea of meeting her clients etc. The cutlery was old and looked dated. The place needs a revamp from the saxa salt bottle to the waitresses. The menu looks 5 star plus but in reality the quality and standard of the food was the same as your typical Tuesday night dinner after work. Such a pity as the venue is so beautiful and with a little bit of an investment, the restaurant could be so much better.

Fawlty Towers

Stayed at Hanora’s cottage recently with a group of friends and I can only say fabulous. We had 4 rooms, one nicer than the other. Our room was in fact nicer than some 5 star hotel rooms. Huge bed, so comfy, fab decor & lovely bathroom with jacuzzi bath.  Dinner & breakfast were  both superb with a large choice. Mary the owner was a delight to chat, very entertaining & made sure everyone was happy, checking with all customers both at breakfast & dinner.  Can’t recommend this place highly enough.  It really is in the country & about 4 km from the nearest little village of Ballymacarbery, so beware of that ! Not the place to go if you want nightlife 🤪

A Hidden  Gem

Fabulous old world place, so welcoming with a cuppa and lovely pastries. Great night's sleep, bed so comfy. Brilliant place for walking in the Nire Valley. Staff fabulous. Food wonderful. Cannot rate this place high enough. 

Wow! 

The owner and the staff of the cottage are so welcoming and professional. You feel at home as soon as you step in for the first time. Also, they have an excellent breakfast with a good variety of different options. Also, I would suggest having dinner at Hanora's Cottage, the great chefs and waiters truly elevated the entire meal into a memorable culinary adventure.

Highly recommended

The hospitality is second to none and a credit to all the team. The weather did not allow for much walking in the scenic Comeraghs so  we enjoyed a visit to the town of Clonmel. Dinner was perfect with fresh local produce and the legendary breakfast lived up to its reputation. Home made breads and preserves are the best. 

Well done to a talented team

First up: A lovely welcome of tea & scones as our room wasn't ready. ( We were early ) .  Sitting in a beautifully comfortable parlor room, bright and sunny - as we were the lucky recipients of Historic Glorious Weather :-) The first room shown us was just up the stairs, and much smaller than expected. We closed the door. Oh well.   A few moments later he returned and asked if we'd like to see another possibility ?  A very spacious corner room into which we happily moved.  The food is excellent - spoilt for choice at Breakfast and the Dinner Menu is really good.  There were trails just a mile or so up the road and great hikes all around the area.  Staff is hard-working and aims to please.  You can't do better than to book a few nights here !

Holiday Break

What a delightful sanctuary! I highly recommend including this gem to you Ireland tour. We went through My Ireland Tours and stayed in a handful of places, all wonderful, but this place was my favorite. The picturesque countryside with a sweet babbling brook immediately made me feel at peace.  The warm and welcoming owner spent time chatting with us and sharing stories. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The gourmet food was top notch! I had the seafood chowder which was loaded with seafood, the salmon dish which was plentiful and cooked to perfection, and the toffee pudding for dessert which melted in my mouth!  This is a must stay during you My Ireland Tour!
