This cosy lodge is located in an enchanting little town with endless amounts of things to do, it is as close to the surfing territory as it is to the night life and there is always something to eat close by. The rooms were spotless and well kept and we were asked if we needed anything upon entrance. But the real charm with Rougey comes with the staff. Some of the most charismatic and interesting characters I have ever had the honour of meeting. Most of them are transient but they dedicate themselves to making your staying experience as enjoyable as possible. If you get the chance, allow yourself to fall in love with the staff at rougey lodge as much as it makes leaving a little more painful; you will remember your days there for the rest of your life. And then some.

Magic.

Check in was at 16:00 and we arrived soon afterwards and a very pleasant lady showed us around and checked us in.
I hadn't pre-paid for the room when I booked it but was told only cash was accepted as payment. I had to go to the local shop which thankfully had a functioning ATM, it's 2024 card payments should be accepted everywhere.
We booked a double room and found on arrival that there were no towels, so I returned to reception to get a couple (€2 each extra).
Upon returning to the room my partner told me she couldn't get the heating to work, I tried myself, no luck so back to reception where I was given an electric heater to bring to the room.
"Look under the bed" I was told when I got back to the room with the heater, it was absolutely filthy, large dust bunnies everywhere. It clearly hadn't seen a broom in a long time.
The rest of the room and bathroom were pretty clean though.
The shower was adequate, there was enough hot water in the mornings for us both to shower, we'd brought our own shower gel etc., none is provided. 
We didn't bother with the continental breakfast which is included in the price so can't comment on that.
We travelled out of season so there was no problem getting parking on the road in front of the hostel.
So in summary, adequate but could be better.

Pretty Average 

Right in the middle of town. Free safe parking next door.
Rooms are clean, warm, with decent wifi. What more could you ask for ?
Continental style breakfast provided. Plus, as it is a hostel, you can cook evening meal, prepare lunch etc.

Friendly, helpful staff.

This is a 'surfing' hostel ... if you feel inclined to learn how to surf !

Great place to stay !

Have to say, Danny here was very helpful and friendly. I had my own private room which was great. 1st time I stayed here, if going to Bundoran again, I will book The Rougey lodge. Even though I booked it over a month ago, when I arrived, there was no record of my booking on the system. But Danny told me he had a room, available, I was very grateful. It wasn't Danny who took my booking over the phone, so I was very grateful to him, for his help.

This hostel was warm, inviting, and clean! They were extremely accommodating to our group of 30 and gave us a wonderful experience filled with fun. The owner is a wonderful person filled with joy and excitement to engage with a crowd (or not if you don’t want it). The ability for all staff to read a crowd is excitable. Overall, 11/10. Best hostel I have ever stayed in for a group of young and fun people.

Wonderful place

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. There is a really good vibe here. Room was spotless with a sea view. Bbq nite was a great chance to socialise with people all around the world. Some staff very friendly..some not so much! Only criticism...the 4 or 5 staff also seem to live there and they hog the sofa and tv area so paying guests dont have a look in. I think staff should have their own area to hang out. 

Fun place to stay!

It is what it is a cheap basic hostel with contenential breakfast. Rooms have bed and a locker with a bathroom and shower. That is it. There was a bbq most nights as the weather was changing. No curfew which was great and if you were hungry at night you could make something before the kitchen closed or used the Chinese or shop practically next door. 

Very Basic 

First time I have stayed in a hostel and was pleasantly surprised. My daughter was surfing but I found plenty to do in Bundoran. I had my own room with bathroom. it was very clean, spacious and I could see the sea from my window. Pierre seemed to look after everything and was very friendly and helpful. They even offer Yoga for surfers and visitors which was a great way to start the morning. We had lessons in a lovely yoga studio in the town. The Lodge was busy even in October. Surfers were taken off on a bus in the mornings to surf and looked like they were having a great time. Lots of them seemed to have stayed here before. I would definately go back

Pleasantly surprised

I got there and after waiting 30 min for the reception. This girl came and told me my room was goint to be ready at 5pm!. No explanation at all. 
I had to leave and came back at 5pm, I wanted to pay and she told me to pay later because she was busy. After that went to the lobby at 7pm and nobody was there. Then at 9pm and the same...Because of my travels i had to leave at 715am, went to the reception and off course nobody was there and everything was shut. I ring the bell and call around but nothing.
So I left without paying but was not my fault. I had no phone or way to call anybody.
The day after the girl sent me an email saying i got reported for not paying. I think is a very bad way to treat clients and the girl was never actually at the reception. 

Besides this the internet does not work in the rooms. The room smelled very bad, the toilet had a leak and overall it all looked not organized. 
Whoever cleaned my room left all the cleaning supplies right outside my door for all my stay.

They reported me for not paying and it was not my fault !

Perfect location to stay for groups or single people.comfortable clean bedding, breakfast is more than the usual continental. Fresh filtered coffee,ham,cheese,toast cereal,juices,herbal teas and for your own personal touch you have access to the kitchen to prepare cook and store your own food..kitchen is open from early morning to ate evening
The staff were approachable,very accommodating, informative.
Bus timetables for The Rory Gallagher Festival Weekend were clearly printed at reception. Access to the bus is only a few hundred metres up the road. 
We shared the room with other international guests and found the experience open and friendly.
The communal atmosphere was inviting and very social. WiFi accessible in the common rooms.
