We got married in Kinnitty Castle in November 2023. We had an absolutely dream weekend. It was seamless, exciting, joyous and completely stress free. This was all thanks to the staff and the vendors. They were all always completely professional, warm and obliging. Every single guest complimented us on the great weekend and the great service experience.

The entire process working with Kinnitty Castle, from the inital viewing through the planning, the meal tasting and the weekend of our wedding was so easy and pleasant. We felt completely looked after and prioritised for the entire time. 

The location, the castle grounds, the drawing room, dungeon bar, bedrooms, banquet hall... it was all gorgeous. The food was impeccable all the weekend. 

Most of our guests stayed at the hotel for the Friday and Saturday night. Everyone was completely complimentary about their stay and how well they were treated.

I wouldn't change a thing and wish we could do it all again!

Wedding in November

Had a wonderful stay with my sisters at the beginning of January. The castle is preserved excellently and  has been decorated to a fitting standard in keeping with the era it originated. The drive up to the building is beautiful and breathtaking. The grounds are clean and well maintained. The bedrooms are spacious and warm. The staff are the main selling point of this hotel, though. A special mention to reception who were extremely helpful and accommodating. A lovely blonde girl looked after us from the beginning; from making our booking, to checking us in, helping with bags and organising our dinner etc. She conversed with us all night and checked in to see how we were getting on. Later on we saw her helping an elderly man up some stairs. On check out she was there again, with a big smile, sweet and friendly attitude. Credit to the castle. All staff were lovely and attentive. We cannot wait to return. All the best Mary.

Staff Exceptional

We had a wonderful stay at the Kinnitty Castle Hotel early January 2024. While the hotel is very comfortable, warm and inviting it really could do with a little reinvesting.
However, this will not put us off coming back, food and staff where perfect, we had a meal in the dungeon bar and breakfast in the main restaurant and was fantastic.

This was our second trip to Kinnity Castle and the ambience inside and outside the castle was entirely consistent with castle life. The open fires, the layout of rooms, the furniture were wonderful and maximized our stay. Food menu excellent. Nice and engaging staff. Will be back soon,

A truly castle experience

My sister in-law rang me as I live in the locality to see whether her Booking in kinnity castle had been confirmed as she had heard nothing from them even though she had rang 5 times. I rang, left a voicemail and chat message no reply and still no reply to my message on the 30th of December the even though now this evening of the 30th they  Checked in with apologies and upgrades 😠😠💯💯

Hello are you there?

Less than 2 hours from Dublin airport but felt like it was a million miles away - it was the perfect end to 10 days of traveling around the county.  Room was large and clean and the food/drink was good.  Service was also very good.  We stayed on a Thursday night in the off season so it felt like we were the only people staying there (I think 7 of 37 rooms were booked) - made us feel like kings of our own castle.  It's a little remote so I wouldn't plan on leaving once you get there however Tullamore DEW is about 25 minutes away so a perfect stop before hand.  I'd recommend getting there early and take advantage of the hiking trails at the property - there's a shorter and longer ones for a variety of levels but very scenic (a lot of it is along a creek).  We didn't see another person in an hour and a half.

Unique stay close to Dublin

This review is long over due but I had to share my experience of the magical stay we had in Kinnitty. 
We had booked for two nights to celebrate our engagement. I had mentioned on booking that it was a special occasion and we were given one of the stunning suite rooms with the roll top bath overlooking the beautiful gardens .  The rooms were fitted out beautifully in period style fabrics and some of the original features still could be seen . Fab!! 
When we arrived and were checking in we spoke to Robert the general manager who happened to be walking past . Robert was very forthcoming with information about the castle and different activities that we could avail of . After went to our room , a few mins late there was a knock on the door and a member of the team in Kinnitty was standing outside our door with 2 glasses of Prosecco. She said it was compliments of Robert the general manager  and wished us a happy engagement and to contact him personally if we required anything . We were blown away . Irish hospitality at its best . What a great start . We then realised there was already a complimentary box of chocolates in the room , welcoming us to the hotel . That night we dined in the bar , all tip top . It was quiet that night but the staff in the bar were lovely . The following day we had arranged horse riding and were met my Noel I think was his name from the equestrian centre. What a character…. Beautiful morning . When we arrived back in Kinnitty we were met by Robert at the stables gate , enquiring how our stay was going. We asked Robert to join us for a coffee which he did for a few mins and filled us in on more interesting facts on the hotel . 
This stay had been one of the best I have had in Ireland , we felt so welcomed . And I’m Irish ! 
This is the true picture of Irish hospitality . Keep up the good work , Robert and all the team in Kinnitty . 
We will be back …. Before the wedding hopefully .

Irish hospitality at its best ❤️

We stayed in Kinnitty Castle for the February Bank Holiday weekend in the Bernard Suite. The room was nice and overlooked the castle entrance and the four poster bed was very comfortable.

The staff were lovely and particularly Grainne who was very helpful. We had dinner both nights in the Sli Dala restaurant, the food was excellent and good value. Breakfast wasn't as good and the very young staff are not fully aware of the menu and what was available. No menus on table or given by staff.

The floorboards were a bit creaky but that is to be expected in an old building. Attention to proper cleaning of upholstery on the seats in the suite and also in the dining room would enhance the experience. There was a lack of a proper lock on the bathroom door which we fixed with a piece of paper to keep it closed, lol.

Nice walks through the wood. Lovely to wake up and see deer and ponies in the grounds in front of the castle.

We enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful weekend in Kinnitty.

Lovely staff, excellent dinner

I'll start with the positive, there is a beautiful scenic long driveway up to the castle (shame about the boarded up, ramshackle gatehouse), and the exterior of the castle is gorgeous. The staff checking us in were friendly, and the interior thus far looked good.
Then we got into the room and both immediately noted the musty, damp smell of the room, and also that it was freezing cold! We decided to make a cup of tea to warm up, and there were only 2 teabags. My husband told me to keep his to one side so he could have a second cup, however the milk curdled when added and I noticed both milks were out of date! In fact all the milks on the tray were out of date. We called reception and explained, and asked for more teabags also, which they brought. 
When checking out the bathroom I noticed that the floor was dirty (literally just used some wet toilet paper and rubbed the ground around the sink and the dirt came up, so clearly the floor wasn't cleaned beforehand). There were also cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom and bedroom and within the bedside lamp.
My husband showered and warned me that it was a terrible shower and that it would take me ages to wash my hair (he knows well now!), so I said I'd have a bath and wash the hair in there (also because I was absolutely freezing in the room). At this point my husband found a little portable oil-filled heater behind a chair, so that was a huge godsend! 
However there was no bath plug! (Sink plug was attached to it by chain). Again we asked reception. And they said "that's a strange request" to which my husband replied "it's pretty strange to have a bath that doesn't come with a plug!". He went off for a pint and I waited and waited in the room (under the duvet to keep warm). At this point I realised how thin the walls and ceilings were, as I could hear EVERY single word of my neighbours conversations (and intimate moments). 
Given how cold and filthy the floors were (and also the brown varnish from the bathroom's wooden floor was sticking in places to my bare feet) and no slippers provided, I asked my husband to ask for slippers as he passed reception on his return. I called them again after a while to ask about the plug and was told they couldn't find one. I asked them if they could take a bath plug from an unoccupied room. Which they then did.
The toilet seat in the bathroom was broken, and would slide to one side when you sat, meaning you were on the cold porcelain, and the seat would fall against your back. 
During the night we were both woken by the conversation between the night porter and the guests along the hall, who were being moved because of a leak in their room (looking at previous reviews, clearly not the first time it's happened). The conversation was so loud that it sounded like it was happening in our room.
Breakfast the following morning was terrible. We had been told the only slot available was 9am, which was fine, and you would imagine plenty of hot food would be available given that it was only halfway through breakfast. But the only hot item was the sausage (even though the food was kept in serve-yourself metal lidded containers). The  toast was cold as it was delivered to the table  also. 
I will say the one big positive was the evening meal in the dungeon bar, the saving grace of the trip. The food was delicious, even if the service was hit and miss. 
In summary, I have stayed in much better 3* hotels, this is not even at that standard, and I would not stay here again. Now perhaps there are other better rooms than ours, but you don't know what room you will get when you book.

Definitely not a 4* Hotel!

Great time staying in an authentic castle in Ireland! Brian Boru room in the castle attic provided an exciting experience. Massive tester bed, stone fireplace and cool view. Castle grounds are neat to explore and are near a river flowing by. Food and drink was wonderful but the best part was the friendly personal staff!
