Terrible place, Greedy owners put Irish people in emergency accommodation on the streets to take in Immigrants for financial gain. AVOID AVOID AVOID..... Place is also filthy and freezing cold I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!

Stayed here in August facilities very  poor, and the  hostel seemed full of  displaced people who never left the Hostel,  putting a  strain on the limited faclities that  were  available the  rooms  and  bathrooms were  in very  poor condition, not  the  type  of  place you  would went to  go to for  a hoilday.

Cashel Hostel

Four of us booked two twin rooms, we arrived at 7.50pm, our friend was booked into the b&b next door which is owned by the same person, she spoke to the owner and told him we were 20 minutes or so behind her so he knew we were arriving shortly.  We got in the door as someone was coming out, there was nobody in reception and we rang all the numbers provided, no answer from any of them, left three voicemails and eventually had to leave at 8.25 to visit the friends we had gone there to see.  We left a note on the table in the B&B but there was still no keys and no call or text throughout the night,  two of us had to stay elsewhere and a resident in the hostel who also apparently worked there put the other two of us in a dorm room.  There was a man sleeping in there so it was clearly a male dorm.  The owner was nowhere to be found the next morning either, still no return phone call or even a text to apologise.  The whole thing was a farce from start to finish.  Never again.

Disastrous

We booked a double room, at a b&b-rate (75 euro) but found a bunk bed there and the carpet was stained and not vacuumed. The whole hostel has carpet, which made it extremely dusty, We decided to stay somewhere else, because I have dust allergies. I asked the manager on the phone whether it was possible to cancel because of my allergies and he refused to give me any kind of refund and hung up the phone on me while I was still talking. We left anyway. Filthy, outdated place.

Reasons why I didn't like this hostel, which is also the worst hostel I ever stayed at:

1. Everything is cheap, dirty looking, old couches, furniture, etc. all most likely bought from a thrift store
2. Staff is barely ever working or at the desk. The girl who was helping us at the front desk was so clueless and made a lot of little mistakes. But I digress...
3. Our room was a private two person bunk bed which clearly used to be a BATHROOM turned into a bedroom by simply removing the toilet and adding carpet. The sink was still in there, although it didn't run.
4. It was FREEZING cold when we visited the room! I slept with my coat on.
5. Also, all the showers are cold running water and you have to push this button to get running water about every 10-15 seconds. I didn't even take a shower, thank God I only stayed on night.
6. When I opened the door in the morning I found an old man peeing without even shutting the bathroom door, right across from my room. But guess that isn't technically the hotels fault,right?
7. May I also add how dirty and old everything looks? 
8. It costs the same as a really nice hostel I stayed at in Dublin (Generator) and was also the worst one, ironically. Don't let the price fool you. This place is old.

Point is... this place is NOT worth the money and I have NO IDEA why it has 4 stars! Ick. Go at your own risk, if you are into low quality places. You can get a better place for the same amount of money.

Good for travelers with low standards.

My family stayed here for one night while visiting the Rock of Cashel.  We had a private, quad room.  Room and bathroom were quite clean and comfy, even tho the shower was very small.  We found parking on the street out front. We used the free tickets to the Rock that the Hostel provided (thanks!). Location perfect:  we walked to Rock of Cashel, walked about the town with its old abbey, walked back to the Rock after dinner (it's lite up at night!!). 
I really loved being "in town" and able to walk to St Dominic's Abbey (a ruin -- beatufitul!), also walk to St John's Cathedral and the little land next to it.  Stay in town so you can see this little town!  Hostel staff nice, but not so informed on places to eat in the area (ate at the Cellar bar/restaurant down the street, was fine).  Bought breakfast stuff at the Lidl grocery down the street -- large grocery (for Ireland), well stocked, interesting to experience Irish grocery.  I'll take a few points off because of the cleanliness of the front/community room:  very tired couches and pillows in there...  But otherwise a good experience, would stay there again.


Would stay here again....

We were a group of 9 travelling and were given a big room all to ourselves in the back of the hostel in the courtyard . The owner was a very nice chatty jovial man 
My only big gripe about this place is that it’s not very clean 
Our room was full of crumbs ( linen had been changed apparently) but we found chewing gum and some hair ...
The kitchen was a greasy and needed a thorough clean 
The courtyard had a bit of junk lying about and it felt more like staying at a relatives house than a hostel . It’s very quiet though and in the morning the courtyard has sunshine 
Some of the people staying were real characters ... a few oddballs ...but I guess it added colour to our travels 
Needs just a more caring hand

Quirky but a little disappointing

Have travelled to many hostels over the years and have to say this is one of the best by far. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was just great. If you want to get a real taste of Ireland Cashel and this hostel is definitely the place to stay. At such an affordable price as well. Would highly recommend to all.
