Went for Lunch on Easter Sunday. Table not ready, no problem until we discovered a large noisy crowd in the bar with music blaring - not good for a family hotel and elderly relatives. Food was very average, roast of the day was dry, vegetables did not arrive until 1/2 way through meal - we were forgotten about. When paying for the bill and about to leave told we expected the table back- no need to say this as we were leaving anyway - overall poor food and poor service. Most disappointing visit after multiple visits over many years

Poor food and service

Dear Crover house,
I recently attended a family wedding in crover house, it was absolutely fantastic from the meal to the staff to the setting, everything was perfect, Until we arrived at the cabin.
We knew from we went in the door this was unacceptable. Unfortunately at that time there were no other rooms available. I have never been more dissatisfied. The cabin itself was filthy covered in dust and cobwebs. The wardrobes in downstairs bedroom were full of stuff ie sheets and boxes and around the mirror and draw was disgusting- acceptable maybe only in a young girls room in a home but not a hotel. The drawers in the kitchen were absolutely filthy as well. There are gaps between the glass and frames on some of the windows so the draft coming in would cut through you.  There was one tiny horrible bathroom that had to serve however many stayed - which on our occasion was 4 couples. I have owned and ran a BnB for 3 years and nothing about that cabin was acceptable.
It may suit a group of men for golfing but certainly not ladies for a wedding - trying to walk down that path at the end of the evening- not even a golf buggy etc to drop people down.
It may be barely passable in the couple of summer months ie July/ August/sept but not at any other time. You either need to tear it down or put money into it to bring it up to date. This is the review I will put on any website I can because I don’t want other people to get the shock and disappointment we got after paying for it at reception only to land down and realize the dump we were stuck in.

Fabulous hotel, cabin a dump

We attended a family wedding in March of 2024.  Crover house was such a beautiful setting. But the warmth and the welcome was so genuine  and  warm, it was so homely.  Nothing was a problem for Liam and Mary. They were so helpful and supportive. The lake view was beautiful, and therapeutic. A little piece of heaven.

Wonderful welcoming place

Didn't realise this place was so out of way, deep into countryside.
Horrendous roads on route. Nice place when you eventually get there, very quiet. Hotel itself is very average.
No dining room available as the bar is used as one so therefore no bar available.

Okay Stay

Have visited a few times lately as it was recommended by a local. Been living in the area a few years and hadn't heard of it ( living less than half hour away). What a beautiful little tranquill spot. The staff make the place, the doorman Liam is exceptional, friendly to young and old with a few words for everyone. He broke into happy birthday for a guest a day we were there making everyone join in. It was great fun. More important food is exceptional.  The slow cooked beef and fish and chips are our favourites. Beef is 26 euro but well worth it. it's truly exceptional.  Soup a let down at 7.50 for small little bowl ( little white school size bowl). Mushroom and coconut pie also beautiful and the chicken wings a big hit with my son.The coffee not great no batista just machine coffee...a small hiccup in an otherwise wonderful experience. The warmth and friendliness here are a reminder of what service used to be like in Ireland and a rare find nowadays. Lovely log fire in the bar with views over the stunning lake....not what you'd expect on Cavan/Westmeath border but what a find!! Service with older staff is exceptional, some of the younger ladies in dining still getting there...no butter with the bread for soup  no hand wipes with wings. These are only tiny things. The food, ambience and service is superb ifyouu want to feel like you are away on holiday come for a walk around the lake and  a beautiful lunch. Not sure if Liam is the owner or just staff but he is what makes this place. Will be back.  P.S...do book as you won't get a  table for Sunday lunch without one.

Delious food, super service and views

Crover House Hotel is a beautifully mantained 18th century house in a fabulous location on the shores of Lough Sheelin in county Cavan.
All staff most welcoming, helpful and professional esp head waiter and morning supervisor in dining room.Good selection for breakfast, fresh very well presented.Dinner was excellent on both evenings, tasty & well presented.
Some rooms could do with a little updating but all are scrupously clean and very well serviced.
There was a wedding fair on the day we arrived and we could see the huge appeal this house wiuld have for weddings both inside and out.The grounds are beautifull landscaped with ample ideal opportiunities for photos near the lake.The golf club boasts a well mantained 9 hole course in the scenic surroundings.This house is ideal for a quiet couples retreat, a wedding or golf outing, surrounding roads not very safe for walking or taking care of young children.We would highly recommend a stay at Crover hse & golf resort.

60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebration for my Parents..

Staff could not have been more welcoming and attentive to my parents and us, complimentary bottle of champagne and cake in their Room. Lovley Liam gave a toast to my parents at dinner and also sang to them making my parents feel so special, even at breakfast this morning the head waitress brought pancakes lit up with a huge sparkler.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and bright. We had a dog friendly room again beautiful with a wet room, so keeping the dogs clean was no hassle.

The grounds of the hotel are immuculate, the views are stunning and the flower display fantastic, what more could anyone ask for!

This was our second visit to the hotel and won't be our last, thank you for making this celebration so memorable. 

Diamond Wedding celebration 

Booked this hotel with relatively short notice only booked it a few days before making the trip. Hotel is easily found although it is off the beaten track. Not too far from Granard Cavan Mullingar or Longford all easily accessible and within a short drive. 

Hotel stay itself was an overall enjoyable experience although there was one or 2 little issues that I think just took the shine off what would have been a perfect getaway.

Positives first as I feel this is fairer way to review a hotel. 

Location location location outstanding area of natural beauty with a beautiful not modern but slightly aged hotel nestled perfectly into its surroundings. 
The building itself is beautiful the interior is clean relatively modern yet slightly aged in decor which I think works for the location it feels right and not something I would say is a bad thing. Let's say it's homely. Which is a good thing. 

Food and beverage is outstanding and more than reasonably priced. Service is excellent with kind friendly well trained and attentive staff on hand to make your stay enjoyable. We enjoyed a lunch upon arrival dinner later in the evening and breakfast on the following morning. 
Lunch for 2 cost around €27 including tea and a coffee. 
Dinner 2 course's for 2 was a reasonable €62 excluding drinks .
Breakfast was included in our stay and was a self service buffet.

Bar staff excellent as the staff are throughout the hotel. The bar area was comfortable nicely decorated plenty of seating with amazing views of the lake and golf course outside. Drinks at the bar are a little higher than other hotels I've stayed in recently but not so high that it would be an issue we're talking 10-30 cents per drink not euros. Wide selection of draught and bottled Beers with a good cocktail menu as well as the usual top shelf options available as well. Live music was an excellent plus and not expected. 

Front office staff and reception area staff are warm and  welcoming and above all more than helpful allowing us to check in over an hour early. 

Major plus is the distinguished older gentleman who I assume is the owner who I can't only but say was an amazing host welcoming warm friendly jovial happy these words don't do this gentleman justice he's a treasure. He took time to walkthrough the bar taking a moment to say hello to customers I really like this old approach to the service industry one which I've enjoyed working in myself for the majority of my working life. It's how things were when I was a child growing up and how I remember hotel staff being in the early to mid 90s. Not like we're trained to be today. It was a lovely little flash back and a welcomed one. 

Now the negative 

The room we stayed in I believe was 127A was clean bed was comfortable excellent shower unit. However the piping under the sink was leaking which meant the floor would become wet and needed a towel mat underneath to stop a puddle forming. The room was heated with a large radiator which was not on however the room was awfully warm although there was a window which could be opened we were advised not to open it due to fly's which come up from the lake and would infest the room. The air was stagnant unbreathable at times and incredibly uncomfortable to try to sleep in. Neither myself nor my traveling partner had a good night's sleep I think if the issue if fly's is known and being advised not to open windows I think a fan or air-conditioning unit in the room would make it much more comfortable for the customer.  The situation however got a little worse our room was quite close to the rear /side door used by people coming to golf and were awoken quite early by loud talking and the door being opened and closed by those coming and going. 

Overall we enjoyed our stay but for the few small negatives. 

Location 9/10 outstanding natural beauty 

Hotel Decor 7/10 slightly dated but Homely really nice in it's own way

Food Beverage 8/10 food is fantastic value for money good quality food and excellent service.

Staff  10/10 excellent service all round 

Room 6/10 "too hot no way to lower temp making it really uncomfortable leaking sink and noise from rear side door area and those using it for golfing. 



Random Night Away 

We had a wonderful two night stay at the Crover Hotel. It’s so nice that they are dog friendly and take two dogs. Most of the staff were wonderful especially Liam who was so kind to our dogs Rory apologies for barking at him. 

The gardens are so beautiful and a great place to bring the dogs walking. We could not recommend this hotel more. We only wish we lived nearer.

Fabulous

This is a marvellous hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, very comfortable. We slept very well. The food was delicious and the selection of wines and spirits in the bar is a mix of old and new.  The walk around the hotel grounds is a joy, as it is beautifully landscaped. Can't recommend this hotel enough.
