Quiet and relaxed stay here, Hubie the owner was most welcoming when I arrived and even offered me a lift into town if needed. A nice base to explore Westport.. located in a lovely estate. If you want a quiet relaxed stay I highly recommend. The owners were so nice 

Homely quiet and relaxed place 

I was down for a one-night last minute excursion from Co Leitrim. After a quick search the night before on booking.com, Colonelwood House showed up. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. It was clean, quiet and the setting was beautiful (10 min walk to Westport Town centre) The hosts were most welcoming and down to earth 🌎!! Will definitely be  back!!! 

Top Marks!!

Extremely disappointed!  Would not recommend. 
We went tor a shower upon checking in only to find that the showerhead was in pieces so we were unable to shower: the extractor fan in the bathroom was very very noisy: the cups left out for guest tea/coffee was stained and not cleaned and there was no milk provided for tea/coffee. We had a great few days in beautiful Westport but unfortunately this was the downside of our trip!

Would not recommend this property

First of all, I have never stayed there.  I only exchanged a few e-mails with the owner in May of 2022.  But I  did consider staying  before reading the reviews.  

Initially, I just inquired about the availability of a room for two nights and was informed that one was indeed available on my desired dates.  In that e-mail I cited the nightly rate of 40-45 Euros that's published on its website.  However, the owner said the rate was 50 Euros.  Not a big difference, but I asked why.  I never received a reply to that query.  But he did reserve a room for me despite the fact I had never asked him to do so.  I had only asked if a room was available.

A few days later, I e-mailed again to ask if the room remained available.  It was.  Then I read the reviews, too many of which are quite negative.  To be fair most were positive, and all of the reviews were dated some five to seven years earlier so I considered the possibility that the owner may have improved the conditions of the house, heating, rooms showers, noise level, etc. detailed in those bad reviews to a degree acceptable, comfortable and safe for the traveling public.  

So I wrote once more to ask about the current conditions vis-a-vis the poor reviews.  The reply I received was solely to be "disinvited" to stay there, something I had never asked for in the first place.

You'll also note the paucity of interior photos on the website, another hint of things that may await the unwary traveler.  Those that are there are quite small.  Just about every other Irish B&B in which I've stayed or whose website I've visited has multiple photos of the entire house, all of which are expandable to very viewable dimensions.

Heed the Warnings of Other Reviewers

Booked 2 rooms B&B but told on arrival there was no breakfast. Rooms were a good size but in need of updating. The lino in the bathroom needs to be changed as black mold stains very visible. The rooms were very cold when we arrived but the radiators felt like they had just come on. Went out for dinner and returned to an even colder room. The radiator didn’t get any warmer that lukewarm. Bed cloths were very light and was so cold during the night that we had to get dressed and get back into bed fully dressed. Owner asked for full amount when we were leaving and didn’t want to reduce cost for no breakfast and the cold. He argued points insisting heating was on. Begrudgingly reduced cost by €10 for each room for the no breakfast.

Bed and no breakfast, but that is not the worst.

Spent a few nights in this lovely hilltop guesthouse at the end of August.

Very peaceful, relaxing and tranquil locstion, a few minutes walk to see truly stunning views of Croagh Patrick and surrounding coast and countryside. 

Very welcoming and informative hosts.

The spotless double room was massive with flatscreen TV mounted on wall, large bed and garden views. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Nice ensuite with ample towels and toiletries.

You can enjoy your morning coffee at the little table and chairs in the garden with view of green.

And all within just 1 km of the Mall in Westport - a pleasant stroll in and out of town.

Would highly recommend this little gem to visitors to the area.

Lovely stay in Knockranny

Upon arrival we were informed there would be no breakfast as we had opted for a cheaper rate for the room?  Although our room was clean, there was complimentary tea & coffee but no milk. The shower should be condemned as it either scalded you or was freezing cold.  The tiny tv only had 1 channel and there was a barking dog and screaming children to be be heard constantly.  
We would not recommend this place & nor will we be going back.

Terrible

The title reflects no second B, as in breakfast, of which I was told on arrival that they do not do breakfast. I was so tired, it didn't really registrar with me. On entering the room, the smell of mold was overpowering, but yet again, I was so tired, I let it go.  A lousy TV the size of a postage was above the wardrobe. The noise of screaming & shouting children, did not make for a nights sleep. When leaving in the morning around 9am, I asked why no breakfast, as it was advertised as a B&B on websites, business cards etc. The owner said that all B's had been removed. I think they should delete the first 'B' as well, as this is definately not a place to stay. When I mentioned the visible damp with spores on the wall, the man said, 'oh, I'll put in a humifier'. Trust me, this will not work. The smell became worse overnight & no sleep due to all the above, this so called B&B is a complete mess. The owner gave me €10 off, but still @ €50 for a sleepless night is a complete rip off. The room (2)  should be closed off & not used until the damp & spores are removed. This is a health hazard. I would recommend sleeping in your car before contemplating entering this health hazard, as you can clearly see with the photos. Even though the owner is a lovely man, this is the worse 'B' I have ever stayed in & on my return trip to Westport, I would avoid completely. Thank you. 

Worse ever B.

This is not a B & B as they do not serve breakfast and you will not find that out until you check in. The far bedroom in the back has no WiFi and a 20 year old tv that has sound and no picture. Our bathroom was clean but “towels” were small and had holes in them. Our other bedroom had to be vacuumed out for spiders when we arrived. Beds were a bit hard. Rooms did have kettles with tea/coffee.

Should not be advertised as B & B

Although the owner was very kind, and thoughtful, it was not a great place to stay. But OK for the price and if you have children and want a safe place that they can play in and make noise then this is good for you. It is quite noisy as our host family has children that come and go along with the dog and they slam the front door at every occasion it seems. There was little heat and it was a cold rainy weekend in Westport. there was not enough hot water for two showers on one day of our stay, and no breakfast served at all
