Killarney

Location is the only good thing about this B&B. The workers have a tendency to walk into the room for no reason. Woke up two mornings to knocking and a woman walking in asking if we needed anything. This was very inappropriate. The beds are also hard as a rock. Rooms could do with refurbishing and this particular worker could do with a refresher course in hospitality.

Barging into room

Very disappointed. I had stayed here around 5 years ago. I remember that it was clean, and the breakfast was good. Totally changed in October 2023. The rooms were tired. Badly in need of an overhaul. Some of the towels were frayed.  I had booked a single room for myself, and a twin room for 2 friends - they were given a double bed with 2 twin mattresses. No space between. Not suitable, as one of them had a bad cold and wanted to be well away from her friend. I was given a room with 3 beds, so I swapped with my 2 friends. 

The breakfast was poor. Tinned fruit in a bowl. Limited cereals. Cooked breakfast only average. Coffee poor. One evening, a lit candle was left unattended at reception. Another guest was there, trying to reach the mobile of the person on duty, trying to arrange an earlier breakfast. No answer.  

I would not return. 



Poor

Price-performance is great. Location is perfect, about 10 minutes walking to the city, 4km to Muckross Abbey! Parking right in front of the house, we had always found one. Breakfast is good, there are warm options (egg with salmon, full Irish...). Also otherwise everything is always filled up on time. The staircase is quite narrow, but no problem, the nice gentleman at the reception helped us with luggage. The rooms have been a bit old, yet it's quiet here and we even had a bathtub.

Good price performance

Met on arrival by Lucia who was the main staff member I dealt with. She was very helpful with parking and was also very good at breakfast. It is budget accommodation, you get what you pay for. It was spotless, great breakfast, friendly staff. Great for a hiking weekend, near Carrauntoohil.

Great location 

I stayed at Harmony Inn for a night, the room was very spacious and clean. They also offer a very good breakfast, great to get a good start before tackling the Ring of Kerry drive. A special thanks to Lucia who welcomed us checking in, and was very kind during our stay.

Negative experience: expensive hotel compared to the little it offers. Disorganized, neglected hygiene (dirty carpets and blankets). Old bathroom. Just comfortable in the nice village and park. July 2023

Bad hotel, but nice area.

A guesthouse to avoid. The room was spacious and that's the only positive thing about having a proper breakfast, nothing more. You had to ask for tea, the cafe was free to serve. The beds were more than worn out and very uncomfortable. The bathroom was clear and the faucets were running. The courthouse was noisy especially at night with neighbors going out to smoke. No respect for the neighborhood. The proper reception when there was someone...

A guesthouse to avoid.

The night porter opened the door of our room and barged in at 3am when we were in bed shouting at us, told us he was calling the Gardai and that the three of us would be thrown out onto the street, he searched our toilet for other people and accused us of not being guests. He never once identified who he was, had no employee badge or arm bracelet. I’ve never in my life experienced such inappropriate and dangerous behaviour from a B&B employee, he needs to be fired immediately. 

This all stemmed from a noise complaint that was clearly coming from a different room. I Complained to reception the morning after who couldn’t have been any less receptive if she tried, she didn’t apologise, if anything made excuses for him and said that’s his job and said he knocked before he came in. 
People obviously do not open doors at 3am as they would presume it’s somebody drunk or someone who is at the wrong door, it’s also dangerous! How the owner or manager of this B&b has not fired this man yet is beyond me, I’ve seen more horrifying reviews on booking.com doing the same thing to elderly / people with disabilities. Employee or not you can not force yourself into someone’s room at any time!

Night Porter is a disgrace.

I stayed at The Harmony Inn, Glena House for two nights in October during a tour with Intrepid Travel. I booked a single supplement and had my own room with a king sized bed on the first floor. While the staff were very nice, I don’t recommend staying here. It is in serious need of refurbishment. The carpets are old and dirty looking, the bathtub had rust stains, the curtains were old and shabby looking, and the bed was very uncomfortable. I could feel the springs on the bed sticking into my back, the pillows were as thin as paper, and the comforter was far too thick given the weather (and not being able to open the window due to rain and being on the first floor). There was no sheet, and the room was stuffy. I didn’t feel the room was cleaned very well. It smelled musty, though there was a strong scent of air freshener. There was old water in the kettle, and even after rinsing it out, it smelled like something was burning when I turned it on. 

A very old hair dryer was provided. There was a plug behind the nightstand next to the bed. If traveling from another county, an adaptor may be needed. There was no safe in the room, no way to lock valuables, and no privacy for the door. Perhaps I could’ve declined housekeeping at the front desk, but I locked my luggage instead and left it in the wardrobe.  Only one bath towel was provided - no hand towel, no bathmat, no washcloth. A few small bars of soap were the only bathroom amenities provided. 

When I returned one evening around 10pm, there was no one at the front desk and the door was unlocked. 

The location was okay. It is close to the Killarney Brewing Company, and town proper is a bit further. 

Again, the staff were very nice. A man at the front desk offered his umbrella to a fellow traveler, and a woman at breakfast made good, scrambled eggs one morning and gave me fresh toast. However, I recommend staying elsewhere if possible. Paying a little more would be preferable for increased cleanliness and comfort. 


Needs Refurbishment

This hotel for me was a dream. It breathes the typical Irish cottage air. The staff is very kind and very welcoming. Close to all the main attractions and with free parking. Thank you very much for the wonderful experience.
