We spent three weeks in the UK and Ireland staying in a series of castles, manor houses, and top line hotels. Of all the places that we stayed, Ash Hill B&B was my personal favorite.  We only spent a few nights there, but I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary, if you can.

Nicole (Nikki) and Simon were very gracious hosts who went out of their way to tailor the experience for us. Asheville is a former Castle, that is now a more manageable (only a relative term) large manor house. The room that we were shown first was quite large with a small kitchenette, which I would recommend you request ahead for a long-term stay. 

We were upgraded to a beautiful, large room with a carved oak Emperor-sized bed, larger than a king size bed, which made us feel like royalty. The room was exquisitely decorated and the ceiling was a show-piece. Nikki said she was getting ready for a decorating redo of much of the whole place, so it may not be the same next season, but I'm sure it will still be wonderful.

It is their home where they live. With their family and friends stopping by, we felt as though we were able to experience what it would feel like to live on this farm/country manor in Ireland. It was very comfortable and special for us. They are both very knowledgeable about history and so we were given insights on both the history of Ireland and a modern take on Ireland. 

Nikki gave us tips on where to find authentic Ireland sights, including the local ruins and cathedral in addition to places for day trips. We learned so much that we would have missed otherwise with less engaged hosts. 

Ash Hill, itself, accommodates as much privacy as we would wish, but they were also welcoming enough for us to have a peek into their world, behind the curtain, so to speak. We ate out for lunch and dinner, but also bought prepared dinners from the market that were heated up for us in the kitchen while we chatted Nikki up. She was such a delight that we again kept her chatting over breakfast, which was prepared expressly for our special needs, having addressed it all the night before. All food allergies, sensitivities and preferences were caringly and seamlessly seen to as though we were home - which is what the whole experience felt like - except home was a lovely castle in the countryside of Ireland.



Home Away From Home in Ireland

We had the most amazing experience at Ash Hill B&B.  The house is absolutely beautiful and full of fascinating history.  The host was incredibly knowledgeable in addition to being gracious, warm and welcoming, and full of helpful information.  The room was immaculate.  The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was large with a great shower.  Breakfast was fantastic.  The town is a very short walk with cute pubs and a few restaurants, and historical sites you can visit.  The grounds are gorgeous, with cows, horses, goats, and the cutest dogs.  It is centrally located, making it a very easy drive to other areas of Ireland, and the host is full of great recommendations and advice.  Can't say enough good things about this place or recommend it more highly.

Absolutely Perfect

My husband and I recently stayed at Ash Hill for two nights. We were supposed to only stay for one night but my husband wasn't feeling well (jet leg coupled with a bad cold) so we decided to stay an extra night. Nicole was the consummate hostess (she even upgraded our room!), extremely helpful and kind when we informed her at the last minute that we needed to stay an extra night! We booked Ash Hill as a stopover while driving from Dublin to Waterville in the southwest. Ash Hill is a gracious estate on a farm (oh how I loved looking out the window and seeing the bright green grass and the cows grazing - heaven after living in NYC all these years). The grounds are magnificent and it's very easy to walk into town - 10 minutes walk. While my husband was resting I took a walk and discovered an old 13th century priory! 
Breakfast at Ash Hill was delicious - our first homemade Irish breakfast. Very fresh and I absolutely loved the dining room decor - the whole house is something to behold.Thank you to Norma for all the help during our stay.
The bedroom was very spacious and the four poster bed was incredibly comfortable. A special thanks to Nicole for her hospitality during our stay and especially for being so generous and helpful after my husband got ill.  
Also - GREAT LOCATION for visiting the Grange Stone Circle - only about 15 minutes from Ash Hill.

GRAND IRISH ESTATE! GREEN GRASS and COWS! PURE IRISH HEAVEN!

Just recently visited this amazing historical B &B with my friend and we had the most amazing stay, food was excellent and the grounds are simply breathtaking and of course Bentley the jack Russell polished off our stay to perfection , will be back very soon

Perfection

We spent a wonderful night at Ash Hill, enjoying the excellent home made dinner of local produce. Very friendly hosts who wanted to ensure we had a great stay. The nearby town is only a 5-10 min walk and Lynch’s serves a great pint of Guinness with a very warm welcome from the land lady/lord. The breakfast at Ash Hill was also great. Overall a wonderful place.

Lovely gem of a place

My husband and I had such a wonderful stay at Ash Hill on our last evening in Ireland after a 2 week trip.  Just when we thought we were "satisfied" with seeing Ireland, Ash Hill threw us a curve ball with just how stunning the property and nearby area was -- oh Ireland, we still have so much to see!  We had such a wonderful time exploring the grounds and the ruins close by!  Wow!  Ash Hill is such a wonderful home with fantastic hosts, a wonderful breakfast, and a fascinating history -- a stay that we'll always remember!

Stunning!

We stayed at Ash Hill for only one night as we were transitioning from the Ring of Kerry to Galway. Our 16-yr-old son wanted to stay in a castle, but didn't want it to feel like a hotel. I showed him pictures of Ash Hill and he was thrilled. Since we booked early, we gave him his choice of rooms and he chose the Gothic Suite. The custom-made bed is massive! My husband and I used a lovely double room across the hall. Nicole was a gracious host and spent time telling us about the history of the castle and stables. The common spaces were comfortable and cozy and we enjoyed a fine breakfast of freshly made pastries, jams and fruit. Wish we could have stayed another night!

A wonderful treat

We stayed a night here and were pleasantly surprised. Finding the house was a bit difficult as not even the petrol station employees down the road knew about it. And it is not your typical B&B down the road.

Ash Hill has been in the same family for 300 years. It was a stately home and a stud farm. It lies on 100 acres of green farmland. The owners live there and only rent out 3 bedrooms a night. All rooms have authentic period piece furniture and are different. We had a 4 poster bed in ours. Even the cutlery and serving ware are antiques. I noted a tiny silver pepper shaker, probably from a time pepper was a luxury item unlike today. 

There are issues with houses this age which I would consider more quaint and part of the authentic experience than an inconvenience. Hot water is limited as is wifi. There are no lifts or bellboys to help with heavy luggage. However the staff and owners more than make up for this.
