Enjoyed a lovely weekend under the care of Pierce and Joan. Lovely place with the right amount of old world charm, breakfast was incredible you can have anything available and none of it was a problem.

Pierce has good local knowledge so pick his brains for information. Location is ok just 5km from Thurles which takes 7 mins max in the car.

Shower could do with an upgrade but it didn’t spoil our weekend or would prevent us from recommending The Castle to others. 

Very clean considering the size of the house and what that must entail with all the splendid decor so well done.

Warm Welcome 

Clean, comfortable, and wonderful hosts.  Best stay during a week in ireland, wishbwe could have spent another night or two.  Fantastic breakfast, perhaps too much food, so ask for a smaller portion.  Loved everything about the place.

Terrific

We arrived late and left early the very next day but the short experience we had was wonderful, wished we could have stayed longer.  A special thanks to our host who was gracious for putting up with us being so late.  The room was large, quirky (but lovely), comfortable, clean and the breakfast was amazing.  Would recommend.

Enjoyed our stay!

The Castle Country House. Thurles. An imposing large house, lovely carpets and furniture. Large grounds with a castle. Large impressively furnished guest lounge. Large bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of storage space. Lovely breakfast well presented. Ample parking. Very friendly.

Lovely stay in an interesting house.

Walking in, I fell in love with the decor, lush red carpets, beautiful curtains and bedding all screamed luxury. Bathroom could have done with an update but no worse than our following hotel which was 4*. Breakfast was mammoth so if your not a big eater perhaps ask for a small portion. I have to recommend this place and our hosts on every level, historical and local knowledge was excellent and they could not have tried to help more. Had a very enjoyable 2 day stay.

Excellent place

Would give 0 stars if I could. My family and I were driving through Thurles and saw (what we thought) was a nice bed and breakfast and a sign that said “Accommadation”. So I went in to see if there was any availability while my family sat in the car. 

Please note: it was about 2pm and the front door was open. After standing at the front desk for about 10 min with no sign of ANYONE, no bell to ring, and no obvious way to alert someone of my presence - I had to use the toilet. Right around the corner was a sign that said “toilet”. I quickly used the toilet (which was dirty) and walked out (still no one at the front desk) and proceeded outside to tell my family I was still waiting to see if they had any availability. 

The second I walked out the door, the door swung back open and all of a sudden I was being yelled at by a woman who I quickly understood to own the B&B. She raised her voice asking “how dare you just come into MY HOME and use the toilet”. She proceeded to yell at me saying how rude and inappropriate I was while I profusely apologized as I stood there in absolute shock. She said I just came in without ringing a doorbell. (Mind you, I’m not from Ireland - everything looks different. The doorbell was not obvious AND the front door was open). 

I tried to explain to her what happened but she continued to yell at me - barely letting me get a word in. After about 2 solid minutes of getting yelled at, she slammed the door in my face. I am still in shock, to be honest. She made me feel like I broke into her home... when really I was just trying to inquire about staying the night there with my family! I EVEN SIGNED THE GUEST BOOK! Why would I do that if I was just trying to break into someone’s house to use the toilet? Plenty of other lovely B&Bs in the area! 

Accosted by Host

Great location for exploring Cashel and other surrounding areas, quiet area, helpful host with a lot of knowledge to share, easy to find, lots of parking space but the absolute highlight was the wonderful breakfast. The homemade bread was delicious and the host takes time to make sure you have all the info you need for your day plan.

Might be a good idea to make sure you have enough cash to pay. They have visa facilities but our cards didn't work there. (Worked everywhere else)

Overall, highly recommended and we hope to come again.

Superb Breakfast

We really enjoyed our two-night stay at the Castle Country House. It is in an excellent,  quiet location, and the food was as good if not better than any breakfast we had during our trip to Ireland. There's a nice pub (Bannon's) across the street. The kids loved playing with the dog, too. 

We occupied two large rooms upstairs, one a four-person with the attached view (bathtub with shower head/hose), and the other could accommodate two or three (with a walk in standing shower). Both had refrigerators. 

The tower on site added a lovely feel to the place. It cannot be climbed but we enjoyed walking around it. There's also a nice amount of grass area that we used for a game of catch. 

We were provided advice for the day's travels in the morning and welcomed home each evening. There is plenty of room for parking -- we had a nine passenger van and had more room here than other places we visited. The owner was responsive to questions before our stay as well as after arrival. 

We loved our stay and hope to one day return!

Great Stay and Food!

We needed a room for the night and had read lovely reviews online. The last room available was a four bed and we were thrilled. 

The “castle” was outside our window. The room was decorated beautifully. There was a lovely tub and a fridge with water as well. 

The entire house is outstanding. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed hearing about the history of the home and the grounds. 

The only downside for us was the owner’s often-stated views on American politics. They left me with my mouth hanging open.
