This B&B is close to the bus and train station.We did not book and called to book a room when we arrived we only had a ten minute wait until the manager arrived. Not speaking Italian we communicated well enough. The room was comfy with a nice little balcony, we stayed for three nights and if the room had been cleaned I would have given a very good score but for the price it is great value.

Good location

We had booked a room at this "guest house", but we will never know whether it's any good; all we got was a locked door, a bell that no one answered, and a telephone that no one picked up. We waited outside, in the street, for a full fifty-five minutes, as it got colder and darker. There is a phone number on the sign outside, but no one ever answered; thinking maybe we were doing something wrong with the phone, we asked the shopkeeper opposite (a sports shop) to call on HIS phone: same result. Then a neighbour came along (same building, different floor) and tried for us on HER phone: same result. Neither of these people knew anything about Guesthouse Artemide. Finally, we just gave up and went to look for somewhere else to stay... and later found that the proprietor had contacted the booking site we used (booking.com) and claimed that WE were a no-show, and that he was entitled to his money! When we explained the situation to booking.com, he then claimed (quite falsely, and easily disproved by looking at google earth) that there were TWO separate phone numbers on the sign outside, and that we must have rung the wrong one! At least, he relented on claiming his night's accommodation (or maybe booking.com put the hard word on him), but it still cost us a lot of time and extra money finding somewhere to lay our heads that night. The guest house may actually be very nice.... but my advice is to ring BEFORE you arrive, and try to arrive in daylight, as a cold-night search for an alternative is not a pleasant experience (when we finally found one, the more-expensive -- but pleasant -- Hotel Concordia, the proprietor there tried ringing Artemide from the number on booking.com's booking sheet.... again, there was no response). Above all, be aware that no one actually lives there, and that you shouldn't expect a reception area or anyone on duty.... to me, Guest House Artemide is not really a "guest house" at all... it's just a few extra rooms that one of the locals, who lives elsewhere, rents out. That's not, in itself, a bad system (it worked very well for us in our next night's accommodation, in Catania, since the proprietor made sure he was contactable and was there within two minutes of our arrival).... but it does have its pitfalls, and if the term "guest house" suggests to you an establishment which you can actually get into, and a desk with a receptionist to check you in, you may be a little outraged to find out you are unable to take up the booking!

Be aware of what you're getting.... there is sometimes no one is on duty to check you in,
