Letizia's cookery class was a real highlight of our holdiay. She is a hugely enthusiastic and capable teacher. With her help we created an absolutely delicious four course lunch. She is a lovely lady and I cannot recommend her cookery clases highly enough - do go and visit if you get a chance!

Fabulous home cookery class

Our family had a wonderful time with Letizia learning to cook a fabulous Italian meal together in her beautiful villa overlooking the Italian countryside near Assisi. It was a highlight of our Tuscan vacation. Highly recommend it.

Italian cooking class

Stayed for a week in the apartment with our 10 month old twins and had a wonderful stay. It is probably our fourth visit to Alla Madonna del Piatto and we love coming back, the apartment was perfect for us and our young twins, it was spotless and comfortable and had everything we needed, the rooms were big and spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. The peace and quiet is just amazing and the views of Assisi and the Umbrian countryside are beautiful. The location is ideal to explore the beauty of the region and it’s great to come back to such a comfortable and peaceful sanctuary after a long day sightseeing. Letizia and Ruurd are wonderful hosts, extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble, our girls loved them. We cannot wait to go back, and next time we need to book a cooking lesson

Wonderful Stay

We stayed at Alla Madonna del Piatto while visiting Umbria and attended one of the cooking classes.  The location is magnificent with a wonderful view of Assisi.  The cooking class was a highlight of our holiday.  Letizia made us all feel so welcome in her kitchen, the food was delicious and I have made her dishes many times over - they are no fail recipes.  I hope we have a chance to return again soon and I must say, I fell in love with Google her adorable dog. I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was and hope others will have the chance to visit. System wouldn't allow me to put the date of our visit April 2013.

Amazing cooking class in a beautiful setting

We were fitted into part of a tour as our dates did not fit in fully. This was very helpful and resulted in a fantastic stay with lovely people. We would love to come back one day! We stayed in September 14 but the system will not let me show this. 

Fantastic Wine and Pasta Tour 

This was my third  wonderful visit to Alla Madonna del Piatto. The setting for this B&B outside of Assisi is breathtaking. So peaceful. The hosts are the nicest, most accommodating people who now have become friends. They make sure you get to see and taste the best of Umbria with their right on suggestions. On top of that, Letizia is an amazing cook and runs an acclaimed cooking school on the premises (which you should take part in as it is a real treat). The rooms are lovely with stunning views, all with ensuite bathrooms and plenty of hot water. The home made breakfasts are also delicious. You do need a car here as it is 15" to Assisi. If you are considering an Umbrian holiday, look no further than this special place.

Gorgeous views and fantastic hosts

We had the good fortune to take a cooking class with the amazing Letizia Mattiacci last week.  Her kitchen is so welcoming and inviting and the entire experience was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.  We enjoyed not only Letizia and her expertise and enthusiasm but we also had a great time with the other students.  Letizia makes sure that everyone was comfortable and that we all understood not only the food that we were preparing and eating, but the culture of food in her beautiful home-region of Umbria.  We can't wait to try our hand at ravioli making and, armed with the instructions, we are confident that we will be successful.

A Cooking Class With a View

A wonderful experience with a wonderful lady named Letizia who gave us a highly informative cooking class making raviolis, gelato, etc. The food was simple to make (make sure you prep beforehand!) and well worth taking the time to do by hand. Letizia herself is a great instructor, always making sure our class understood what we were doing and why. For anyone who is interested in a vacation where you learn to make your food as traditional as possible The Kitchen With A View is the place to go. I would happily come back for more classes with her. 
Letizia was always helpful with advice on local restaurants and shops around Assisi as well as valuable information about driving and parking in the area. Information the average tourist wouldn’t know about.

Family vacation and cooking class

We stayed at Alla Madonna del Piatto for 6 nights in September and totally loved every minute of our stay. The highlight of course was Letitzia who was so welcoming and really went out of her way to give individual attention to each guest's needs and wants. She spent a great deal of time each morning helping each of us plan our days, gave wonderful tips on the area, driving routes, fabulous restaurant recommendations that were off the "tourist trail."  She helped us feel like a temporary local. We also took a cooking class from her that was so much fun, we learned so much, something to always remember!  The views from our room were so wonderful with Assisi in a distant hill, wonderful views across the valley, it was hard to tear ourselves away from just staring out the window at our view!  The is a little slice of heaven in Umbria!

Warm, welcoming, informative, peaceful B and B in Countryside near Assisi

I liked staying at Alla Madonna del Piatto, but have mixed feelings about recommending it:  

Positives:  

-	The cooking class was one of the highlights of our trip.  Loved it! 

-	Letizia is an amazing host – so generous with her knowledge and time to help guests plan their days, including recommendations for where to eat, what to see, and what to do.

-	Letizia’s enthusiasm was contagious. Guests talk easily among themselves and share information like old friends. Such a welcoming atmosphere.

-	The views from the patio and our room were spectacular. 

-	Room and bathroom were exceptionally clean and tidy.

Negatives:

-	Noise:  Alla Madonna is near a castle converted to a hotel and event space (Castello di Petrata). On each of our three nights, we heard loud, pounding music and party noise.  Two nights it went well past midnight and on one (a Sunday) they stopped around 8 or 9 pm. To block the noise we closed our window and shutters and used earplugs to sleep. Other guests were bothered too. Letizia said she calls the hotel when it gets really bad but there was not much to do about it.

-	Road:  The road is unnervingly narrow, windy, potholed, unpaved in parts, and it’s easy to make a wrong turn. Not so bad in the daytime but difficult when it’s dark. Also, at night you share the road with people driving to/from the castle-hotel.

-	Breakfast: Simple, but there was never enough food -- e.g., for 6 people there would be 8 slices of bread, 6 slices of cheese (only offered one day), and a small bowl of sliced fruit, plus jam, honey, and yoghurt. There was plenty of dry cereal. If you want more food you can ask for it. But let’s face it, most people don’t, especially after someone has already asked for more coffee or something else. Apart from bread, there were no baked goods or prepared food as we had at other B&B’s.

-	Room: Our room was small (about 10ft x 10ft) with not enough space to store our carry-on-size suitcases or clothes. There was a small armoire with a half dozen hangers, but no dresser or drawers, so we kept most of our clothes in suitcases on the floor.

I probably would not stay there again, mainly because of the noise and the road. Also, at €95, it was the most expensive lodging of our 3 weeks in Umbria.
