It's a prison but you don't see many from this. Big room with two seperate beds with good matrasses. Sharing bathroom, first time for us and the last time. Shower with a plastic curtain, no privacy. Breakfast coffee with cookies or bring your own breakfast, or go to the cafe on the piazza. Location is perfect for a walk. Parking is public, open air or in a garage for free, but a little walk to the ostello. Nice people behind the reseption, very helpfull.

One night visit on our way to the south

This "hostel" is a converted ancient prison in a prime location in Corso del Piazzo which sits atop a hill overlooking Biella.  I stayed with a friend in a 3 bed room, right next to the shared bathroom.  The rooms were very clean, and so were the bathrooms.  The only slight issue we had was  a late arrival (10PM), met by a locked door and now answer - which luckily we met the local mayor whilst we were knocking on the door who called the owner.  So if you will arrive late, let them know and make sure to note down contact details (although the staff was on-site, but it doesn't have a 24 hour reception)
Free internet in reception, but not in the rooms.
The area here is completely un-touristic so life in the square is very local.  There are some great cafes and restauarants in the square for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
You can descend down into Biella town using the funicular railway at the other end of the square, which is less than 2 Euro for a return ticket and a 3 minute ride.
We were in town for the Lancia Stratos World Meeting which was in the main square at the bottom of the funicular - the hostel the perfect location for the event.
The only downside is that i just received in the UK a registered letter from the Biella Police for a traffic violation which i am trying to work out where from - I suspect whilst we we parked up in the street leading to the hostel - so check with them about parking, if you have a car.
Being a prison, all the windows are barred.  If you read the fire instructions posted in the bathrooms, they recommend that in case of a fire, return to the room and put wet towels around the doors, await rescue (which BTW were very heavy duty fire doors)
Overall, a perfect place to stay which felt more like a hotel than a hostel.

A great stay in a fantastic location

Really lovely place to stay in Biella just a stones throw from good restaurants and bar. Place used to be a prison which made for a few interesting texts back home. Breakfast coffee great but suggest you bring in your own bread

Touring northern Italy

Welcomed with open arms (literally), Ostello di Biella was is a gem in the charming old quarter of Biella. It's situated in the central piazza and a 1 minute walk to the funicular. There's a well -equipped kitchen with everything you could need to cook and big dining ad lounge areas. Spacious rooms, immaculately clean and the staff are lovely!

Charming, spacious and clean hostel !

Having reserved at the last minute the reception staff had already gone home by the time we arrived, however a quick phone call from another guest and the receptionist was back within five minutes. Great value for money, everything was clean and the staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place if you're in need of a cheap and quick room for the night!
