After a few years, I have returned to this thoroughly charming little bed and breakfast run by Daniele with his mother, offering kindness and genuine hospitality. 

Home made treats, cakes and jams, for breakfast, and much more. Cold and sweet items are on display, while warm and savoury ones (eggs, local cheeses, cured meats)  come upon request.

The maso is spotlessly clean and well kept. Well-functioning wi-fi inside (not a given in the area!) and fantastic nature all around: what more can one ask for?

Beautiful

This is a typical alpine skiing chalet run by a ski instructor and his mother.  The rooms are very well decorated and comfortable although on the second floor the ceilings slope.  The shower room was modern with beautiful views over the pastures.  The Internet worked very well in the bedroom.  There is a lift which is unusual.  You will need a car to get here although parking is available.  The village of Masi di Cavalese itself is traditional but small and so nothing much is happening there out of season.  You can walk to Cavalese (or take the cable car) which is an upmarket town with interesting shops and restaurants.  The walk is about 3km but this may be tiresome after a day's activities.  The local countryside is one of the best parts of the Dolomites and there are plenty of walks and other activities.  It is exceptionally peaceful.  Breakfasts are served in a pleasant pine clad dining room and are the usual simple bread with cheese and meats.  Overall out of the ski season this accommodation is good value especially if you like walking or cycling.

Alpine peace

My third short stay at the Maso was as pleasant as the previous ones. Fortunately, some good things don't change. See my previous reviews, they still apply exactly! Mum and son Daniele are still wonderful hosts, the structure is quiet and charming and clean, breakfast is great.

Charming as before

I stayed here last year, and this second visit did not disappoint. Run by mum and son partnership, this is as cosy as it gets: everything, from the lavender scented wardrobes to the dried flowers compositions to each and every little detail oozes with tender loving care. But you will have lots of comforts that sometimes you fail to find in hotels, like a properly functioning, powerful hair drier and a properly functioning good internet connection (which is sorely lacking in so many establishments in Italy) and a good sized bathroom where you can take a proper shower.

Outside there are loungers to spend time in the sun once you are back from your hike in the beautiful mountains all around, which you will have trekked up after a generous, fabulous breakfast, with home made preserves and cakes taking centre stage.

The hosts are incredibly hospitable, and did not flinch when we asked to have breakfast an hour earlier than their usual time, even on a Saturday.

Should I be back in the area in the future, I know where I will stay. Highly recommended.

second visit did not disappoint - lovely little B&B

There is no other way to describe it. The Vaia mother and son are genuinely hospitable people. The rooms are simple and rustic, don't come if you need luxury, but extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and with modern facilities (hairdrier, sealed plastic cups in the bathroom, a shower that works well - unlike what I've seen in supposedly superior places), and beautifyl views. 
The location, a few minutes drive from Cavalese is perfect. The breakfast is partly home made (cakes and preserves that taste as grandma would wanted), and partly with good quality bread, yogurts, cereals, cheeses, fruit...You will not starve here!
The prices are very moderate. I have been here twice. If I could, I would come more often!

This maso is lovely

Close to Cavalese, great location on our way from Verona to Barcis. large room (actually two separate rooms - perfect when traveling with teenager). Excellent breakfast, reasonable price. We recommend!
