Hotel Moniga

The Room: The rooms are small and basically furnished but reasonably modern with laminate floors and tiled bathrooms. Beds are not too hard, but not soft like found luxury hotels and laden with enough pillows for a king. Each room appeared to have a openable window out to the street that allowed for a nice breeze and either a fan or portable A/C. We were informed by another guest that to save power the rooms built in A/C is disabled, however it can be turned on at the request of the staff. The hotel does not offer refrigerators in the rooms. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The Bathroom: Spacious and modern but as with most of Italian hotels, small showers and basic amenities. Very well maintained with no signs of wear or aging. The Area: The hotel is located on the corner of a street and a alleyway just down from the center of desenzano and the river front. across the street is a local deli offering fresh meats and cheeses, while next door is a small restaurant. In the lobby of the hotel is a modern decorated café, popular with locals, offering small bread rolls with various meats and cheeses, various breakfast pastries with various fillings, liquors, beers and coffees. Wi-Fi in the area is unfortunately slow depending on how many guests are staying, however local phone coverage was excellent for data. The Service: One of the reception staff is fluent in English, however most of the other staff only know a few words, that said, they are very patient, polite and will do their best to help and translate to the best of their abilities. During our 2nd (and planned final) night in Desenzano my wife came down quite ill and required an ambulance transport to the local hospital. Due to our situation we required a last minute booking for an extra night. Upon returning the staff seemed concerned for the health of my wife and were asking how she was. When discussing rooms they informed us our room had been booked for someone else however at no extra charge they offered to upgrade us to larger room for the night. On the day of our check out the hotel gladly held our bags in a locked area while we further explored the town. After returning we requested the receptionist to call us a taxi for pickup, after a few moments he informed us no taxis were available in the town at the time however without hesitation grabbed his jacket and asked if we would like him to drive us up to the train station for our departure and upon dropping us he even refused a any sort of tip for the drive.
