What was good

Hotel Brunelleschi is located steps away from the Duomo Cathedral. It is housed in a centuries-old women's prison, but with all of its modern facilities, you would hardly know it. There are even the ruins of Roman baths located in the basement (now converted to a small access-only museum). The staff could not have been more professional, helpful, and courteous. The breakfast buffet in the morning was spectacular. On top of all of this, they even presented me with a very delicious chocolate mousse the morning of my birthday, complete with a lit candle. Overall, this place was remarkable and amazing. I will never forget it!

What was bad

There was an odd aspect to the bathroom: no outer door to the shower, and transparent glass between the shower and the toilet (in an adjacent room). I suppose if you were a married couple used to seeing each other naked and/or using the bathroom, this would not bother you. However, I was staying with my 80-year-old mother and we would have prefered our privacy. In the end, I had to go to the shower in the gym facilities to get ready in the mornings.
