For me, the Cascina was "just" a stop-over on the way to Tuscany, but definitely an excellent one:
- nice, large room
- good connections to the motorway coming from Milan as well as to the motorway going to La Spezia
- excellent breakfast (with several home-made cakes)
- splendid Pizzeria

Excellent stop-over on the way to Tuscany

The hotel is easy to find from the auto strata from Bologna to Milan.   It is run by a charming and helpful couple.   The room was large and comfortable with a balcony and well sound proofed walls.   It is in the countryside and very peaceful.   We paid €65 for a double room with bath and a very good breakfast which could have included eggs and salami but we chose not to have that.   We enjoyed the excellent choice of cakes, bread, yoghurt and cereal.   They also make an extremely good cappuccino.   We were able to park our motor bike off the road and out of sight.   Normally, there is a pizza restaurant next to the hotel so you don't have to go far for a meal.   Sadly, it was closed for holidays until the following week but we were recommended to go to another pizza restaurant 2k down the road which served excellent seafood and pizza.    Wifi is available in an old fashioned way offering 2 hour slots but we were able to extend it.

A great place to stop en route from Tuscany to France

This hotel has a restaurant serving local Parma food and the room we had was lovely (with aircon). Funny thing is, we expected this to be the most basic of hotels as we only paid 65 euros and the pics when we booked were not very good. It's about 5km from the motorway and  there's plenty of parking outside. 
We had to leave early so didn't get to try the brekkie. All on all I would recommend this hotel if you're in that area or travelling through italy.



Undervalued

This is a nice place indeed, not far from Parma but far enough to be calm and quiet. The rooms are just perfect, built into an old farm house. The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant was under re-construction. However, some kilometers further is a shopping center and excellent pizzeria.

Quiet and convenient

This fairly small family run hotel was pleasant, comfortable and clean. In a small rural village 2 or 3 minutes drive from Fontanellato itself it was handy for Parma and Fidenza (retail village outlet)
The owners were pleasant and helpful and breakfast offered the usual continental selection which catered for most palates including gluten free.
Ask for the local ham and salami which was delicious.
My only reservation would be that the fresh food at breakfast was  uncovered and when we visited in late September the local flies were in abundance. I don't believe this would be an issue other times of the year and we suffered no ill effects but might be worth noting for the owners.
Oh and by the way our bed while appearing to be very firm offered possibly the most comfortable night's sleep of any hotel I have stayed in.
