Extremely cute rooms in a cute location. Balcony overlooking the old part of Gavoi, with a square and a church right next to the building. Very picturesque. We met Franco and Marinella at Santa Rughe and Franco took us up to the guest house by car (we left ours at the main street). Great breakfast served at the restaurant, just a delicious 5 minute morning stroll from the guest house. Dinner at Santa Rughe also recommended! No fridge or AC in the rooms. There is a heater though (probably needed for the other seasons of the year). 

Ps: I requested information beforehand on how to get there and as a result we knew we had to go to Santa Rughe and not directly to the guest house (there is no reception there). You can therefore avoid the review 'one to avoid' of  "the gliteratti" if you take some pro-active effort to prepare your trip

Very romantic, medieval guest house!

An utter disappointment. To me, this one-night stay was a glaring example of how people in the 'hospitality' business know very little about being hospitable. The place itself is in a good location in the middle of Gavoi, a charming but dead town (perhaps owed to the Easter break). The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, why, it even had a gas fire and two bottles of water by the bedside..

Our stay proved to be an unwelcoming and frenzied experience. We arrived at 6 pm (well within the guest house's formally stated check-in timeframe). The signage in front of the place is practically microscopic, but that was soon going to become the least of our worries. We repeatedly knocked on a firmly closed and duly locked wooden main door for about 20 minutes to no avail. It started getting a bit chilly, so we decided to give the owners the benefit of doubt (everyone needs to nip out for good local produce, right?!) and potter about the old town for a bit. We came back about half an hour later - and still no response on the door. We finally found a generic note on a side wall with a few phone numbers (local format). So after using data services at international rates to figure out dialling codes, and making two international phone calls, we were told they will see you in five minutes. Ten minutes later, thankfully they did - but without a single word of apology (in any language whatsoever). They were clearly in a mad rush to get back to other businesses they run (ranging from a restaurant to a karate class to lord-alone-knows perhaps a psychiatric clinic)... So rushed us into the building for a 3 minute tour replete with instructions. And aimed to rush out. However, we needed to be on our way early the following morning (around 8 am) so we suggested paying that very evening so as to not inconvenience anyone. We were told there were no payment services at the guest house, and were therefore rushed to pay at the restaurant, where - quite to form - the card machine did not work. I was practically livid by this point, so just paid by cash (which incidentally someone else may not happen to have)... There is more, but ah, well, I am tired of typing. Besides, a complete and utter shambles like this place deserves no more than 11 minutes of my time.

One to avoid...

A group of 7 of us, all adults, stayed in Su Caramu a few weeks ago for my mother's 70th birthday. Everything from the reservation down to checking out was just as it should have been. Marinella, who runs the accomodation since Feb this year, was very kind and very professional. The rooms are very tastefull restored and very very clean and confortable. The surroundings are great and I can only recommend this place!
The price of our room included breakfast in the Santa Rughe Restaurant, 5 minutes walk from Su Caramu. Breakfast was lovely with a choice of sweet or savoury food, all very fresh.
A special mention to the staff of the Santa Rughe restaurant and in particular Franco l'Irlandese, that made us feel so welcome. The food was second to none, all fresh and so tasty. 
All together a very special memory and I will go back the next time I am in Sardinia!

What a lovely place!

There was no english-speaking staff and it  was complicated to communicate over the phone as there was no reception when we arrived. The room was in another building as originally agreed. Also, the staff was very much pressed in time and not really available during our stay. They did not provide any advice about the things to do in the region.

The room was clean, but lied directly next to a church which made sleep impossible after 7h. The room had no air-conditioning and not even a ventilator. There was a TV, but no fridge.
