We recently stayed at the Villino Bruzza and had a positive experience. We stayed as a family in the attic with the bathroom. The host is very nice and available at all times. The location is - for those who want to stay at a walking distance to center - perfect. It is uphill so for those who can not afford to walk up and down a steep hill, may not be the solution but we did not have any difficulties with two kids. I’d say that it is a perfect solution for those who look for a place to sleep well and tour the city on foot all day long. Cozy ambiance and homely feeling. Breakfast is always fresh and great coffee.

Functional stay in Genova

21 march 2019 firstly to any older travellers or people with walking difficulties i would think serioslyabout gong here because to get to it you have to climb 2 steephills then once inside the gates you need to manouver around dog toilet within the garden.
the room and bathroom were very good and clean ,but our room advertised a flat screen tv and there was no tv atall ,when we asked for this all we got was a shrug of the shoulders and no intention whatsoever of supplying one.even though it was in our contract

We originally requested a pick-up from Genoa Piazza Principe, but our hosts contacted us to advise that they had some car troubles and were unable to collect us as arranged.  No biggie - these things happen.  They kindly gave us directions to the property via bus, which was great.  The walk to the property from the bus stop was up a very steep hill and with another steep set of stairs to get to the house - be warned!  With bags in tow this is not for the faint-hearted!  We were warmly welcomed and given some great advice for sightseeing and restaurants nearby.  Our room was very basic, but clean.  Some attention to detail such as clearing out the closet to allow space for guests to use would be of assistance.  The outlook to the garden was pleasant. The garden needs some attention - it could be a lovely oasis in the midst of the city.  As it stands, it is just a tree or two.  The bathroom to which we had exclusive access was enormous with a spa bath.  Breakfast was basic - the focaccia was delicious, however the packaged pastries were not.  With a bakery down the road its hard to understand why these are on offer.  Given the price of accommodation in Genoa in September, this one was affordable.  It's certainly not five star but the price reflected this.  It is also well located, very close to the Castelletto, where there are some good restaurants and bars with amazing views over Genoa. The friendliness of our hosts was the stand out here.

Friendly Homestay in Genoa

The place stinks and smells cigarette. In the bedroom, the pillows did not have covers, and the bed sheets looked greyish.
 
We decided to leave; Trying to find the staff to get our passports back, WE FOUND A CAT IN THE KITCHEN, the same kitchen where breakfast is prepared. There we realised the origin of the bad odour. Also, we noticed very dirt throws on the sofas, nothing to do with the pictures displayed on Booking.com, where the sofa looked new and had a clean aspect without throws. We arrived about 5pm there was still food in the breakfast room, that I believe it was there since the morning.
In my opinion, when a hotel authorises pets, a special level of hygiene is required.
 
Even though we would not stay there, my daughter agreed to pay € 20 euros instead of €85. After a few days, my daughter was choked to see in her bank statement that they had charged her the full amount left. 
 
They are not trustful!

Cat in the kitchen! We decided to leave!

While I have no doubt that this B&B was at one time very nice, it is certainly no longer the case. The pictures on the website are very deceiving as they no longer reflect what the place is really like. It is very dirty and smelly. Starting with the outside where the garden is in very poor shape and is not a place where you would want to relax as is implied in the description of the property. That is, unless you like the smell of smoke (which is all over the house and the garden) and dog poo which cover the street right outside the B&B and which is where the garden looks onto. While the whole street is filthy and they cannot be blamed for that, I do think every effort should be made to keep the stairs that lead to the place clean at all times and a quick spray of the road/pavement right outside the property would show they care.

The inside is no better and we had to complain about the fact that the towels, bath mats and floors were dirty. We had to clean the bottom of our loo in the attic room ourselves as it was filthy. Our son found a nail on the first floor bathroom and a towel that had been used before. We had to leave a note downstairs to change the towels and the mat as there was no one to be found. Once, they picked up our note, the owner and his son were apologetic and made every effort to replace the towels and bath mats and even cleaned parts of the floor we complained about but I am afraid it was not enough and I shall not list the many other disappointing things we found. We were told the cleaning lady would be told about all this but I actually doubt there was a cleaning lady at all. If you are tall by the way, do not choose the attic room as you will not be able to get out of the bath/shower.

We stayed there 3 nights, hence 3 breakfasts which were not great either. The cutlery was not clean, my tea cup was full of tea stain, we were served soggy croissants in plastic which we did not touch the first morning but the same ones reappeared the other two mornings after that. I asked for lemon with my tea the first morning and then got the rest of the lemon quarters, all dried up the other two mornings.

All in all, there is no attention to detail and very little care about hygiene which is a shame as we were made very welcome. So please guys, get your act together and get this place cleaned up. You have a great house which would look beautiful and a pleasure to stay in if it was properly looked after.
