Villa Fortezza Bruno is an authentic Sicilian Fortress. A place you will be treated as a royalty! The feeling in the palace, touching the history is unique! Dona Corrada and her son Stefano are very special people, who will make you fall in love with South Sicily forever! Living in the paradise - this is the only feeling every morning you open you eyes and see around! A must stay and see this place. For a very good price you will have the opportunity to be part of the history dating the III century!

A must see and stay!!!!!

Villa Fortezza Bruno is located a short drive from Ispica.  An even if you don’t have a romantic bone in your body, you are going to love this place.  I traveled with friends to Sicily and the Villa Fortezza Bruno was recommended by friends.  God bless them.  What a great choice.  Parts of the fortress date back to the 1400’s.  As soon as you drive up to the fortress and pass through the old wooden arch entry way, you know you’ve found a gem.  
With several choices of accommodations you get all the charm of centuries with all the conveniences of today.  
Grand, yet intimate the fortress with its court yard, ruins, and rolling hills are yours, along with the proprietor who is a living, breathing Baroness.  If the place doesn’t have enough ambiance, wait till you meet Corrada.  She is your host and attends to you as you so need.  Her English was better than my Italian so we did fine. 

At her invitation she shared her Sunday dinner with us with all the traditional servings of a Sicilian country household.  The food, the company and the sharing made the dinner one of the most memorable of the island vacation.  Corrada not only serves as the host and owner but the heart of the place.  She and the place are not to be missed.  The food and lodgings were worth every penny.  The memories are now priceless.

Villa Fortezza Bruno - What a Gem!

We were four people and stayed in the largest apartment in the castle with 2 huge bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and two large full bathrooms. The accommodations were superb.

Corrada, the owner, is really the person that helped me fall in love with Sicily. The first morning we woke up to a beautiful selection of pastries, fruit, hot coffee and fresh blood orange juice. Lovely! As a chef, I was interested in working with Sicilian cuisine and arranged with Corrada and her sister Louisa to do a dinner for our group. They know a great deal about Sicilian food and it was a delight to cook with them.

We used the villa as a base for touring around southeastern Sicily. We visited the towns of Noto, Ortigia, Modica, Ragussa, Scicli and the famous Roman ruins at Villa Romano del Casale. There is a large grocery store in the nearby town of Ispica, and the beaches and gelato shops in Pozzallo are a 15 minute drive.

Villa Fortezza Bruno is a beautiful place to stay, and Corrada is a wonderful host. I have great memories of our visit and I plan to return.

What a lovely place to stay

I think that Villa Fortezza Bruno is probably the finest place to stay in the whole of southeastern Sicily.

In English, the word villa isn't quite right.  This is a Sicilian version of an English country manor, parts of it hundreds of years old, surrounded by several hectares of orchards and working farmland. You can go for a walk and, depending on the season, pick several kinds of oranges and lemons, or citrons (used in a very fine, distinctly Sicilian, salad) or figs or almonds. Or go with the owner, Corrada Bruno, who knows the estate like the back of her hand, to collect plants like wild asparagus. And if you're into birds or flowers, she knows all of them too.

Corrada is what makes the Villa so special. She is an extremely well-educated, well-read person, whose family has owned this estate for generations, and  who thoroughly enjoys showing people what Sicilian culture and cuisine are about. Absolutely arrange to have at least one lunch or dinner with her, where you will have the family wine (ask about the "old wine", which is unlike any Nero d'Avola you will have elsewhere, and is quite special), and olives,  olive oil and fruit from the orchard. And if you're into grilling, see if you can arrange for an outdoor grill, which will be done over olive wood pruned from the orchard.

Villa Fortezza Bruno is an amazing experience not only for the accommodation but for the cultural experience.

I should add that Corrada's command of written English is excellent but, like most of us dealing in a foreign language, she is less fluent in spoken English. Sometimes a pen or an iPad might come in handy.
