Tenuta M. First confirmed, then upgraded our rooms as requested from my side. Short after they cancelled a room with explanation, they are fully booked??? I noticed cancellation much later, looked at booking.Com and could see many free rooms. Means it was not correct reason. As we could not understand this wrong action, we went to hotel and answer was, they did not cancel, but booking.Com did. Again big lies. 
There was no maintenance. 
You should reconsider giving this hotel service!
We had to spend some additional hours to find right place for us for 4 nights. Did not use booking.com, as I was dissatisfied with no backup from your side. To easy to cancel confirmed booking next day. And reason was not correct.

Not trustable

The setting is beautiful with a lovely pool. The rooms are spacious and clean. We did end up staying in a separate building which did mean a 5 min walk to restaurant and pool along a reasonably well lit path. Food was good with very friendly and helpful waiting staff, if a little overpriced. On arrival it seemed there was nobody around - it was very very quiet.

courtesy, beauty and kindness are the main ingredients of this splendid place located in a fantastic green. The clean and spacious rooms, the courteous and helpful pool staff, the excellent restaurant in every dish. competence and professionalism of the reception, Serena prepared, extremely kind and available at any time of the day and very very professional. Her advice for the sea and the beach was really precise. We felt pampered to the point that I didn't want to leave. Tenuta Monacelli is truly a beautiful experience to be repeated because it feels great.

Extremely beautiful

This venue incorporates 2 adjacent properties and seems to excel at arranging celebratory events but, as 'private' guests we did not find this an imposition.  We received a warm welcome on arrival but saw little of the management thereafter.  The grounds are extensive, although many of the olive trees were wiped out a few years ago by a disease which swept through much of the countryside, but it is making a gradual recovery.
Our room was in the old building and was furnished in keeping with the age of it but it was only accessible via a fairly steep flight of stairs, as was our private terrace, so, if you have any mobility issues, it would be best avoided.  The door into the capacious bathroom was very creaky which added in some ways to the atmosphere, but it was a bit disturbing if you needed to use the toilet in the middle of the night.  There is a lovely pool with sun loungers around it but, just like our private terrace, there are no parasols to provide some relief from the blazing sun.

The restaurant where we ate in the evening - the location is some way out of Lecce, so not a good prospect for night driving - has a very good menu and food we ate their was of a high quality.  The serving staff did a great job of balancing the needs of the private diners against those of the celebration parties and the service was courteous and efficient.  Breakfast was served indoors and was, like most of the hotels we stayed in on our visit to Puglia, a self-service affair with a good variety of items, mainly sweet, on offer.

This was a pleasant and interesting place for a short stay but perhaps not so much for a long-term visit.

The Tenuta personnel couldn’t have been more welcoming & professional. The location is beautiful, the amenities (esp the pool) v good, the rooms of a v high quality

For a memorable event, it’s difficult to imagine a better venue in Puglia

Wonderful event venue

We just returned from our Puglian holiday (1week). We stayed few days in Matera, Alberobello & Tenuta Monicelli. 

Tenuta Monicelli was our final destination. As a family of 3 (2adult + 1 teenager) we really look forward to or 4 nights stay!

First of all when you search for info about properties, they have quiet high rating,  marketing photos are pretty accurate and that's where you will be trapped.

This property is a wedding camp. Thats where all the main focus goes. They kind of hide the primary function of this place. 

We got lucky having rented car. We was just kept moving around the area, exploring it. I didn't really wanted to stay and enjoyed the beauty of the area. I felt no one cared about us there. Its just you and surrounded area.  
I would love to underline: I can't say they were impolite. They did smiled. But it didn't solve my doubt I choose the wrong base for my family. Something is really off with this place.

THE BREAKFAST: very poor.  No buffalo, no mozzarella, no local cheese. it's just plain boring intercontinental food. Coffee? Whats wrong with your coffee? it simple awful.

THE ROOM: we stayed inside main building (close to reception, swimming pool and breakfast area). Its and old stable ( I mean it). I would suggest to avoid this location. And try to book a room further down (yes, you walk a little bit, but room are more nit there.  Our room was SUPERIOR triple, really? is that the best you can do for Superior? it just classic none rated room, in bad condition. its not well kept, yes its clean, but made with bad taste. Bath room is terrible. Old shower where you need some time to open and close  the door. the water 2 mornings was simply warm and not hot. The heating battery didn't work (we couldn't dry our towels). 
The door into bathroom has old creepy sound, my husband used my body oil to fix it. 

If you look at their website, you see a place with history. But, no one spend time with us talking about it. All you need is to discover everything yourself. Just wonder around and get lost. hmmm...

But when evening arrives, comes the bride and the groom and the service begins! 

I felt pretty bad, they do so much for the weddings and almost nothing for the traveller.

In beginning of my review I mentioned I stayed in Matera and Alberobello. I payed less for a night than at T Monacelli,  But what a SERVICE we got out there!!! 

My nerve system had enough after 2 nights. I couldn't get my money back due to hotel policy. Fine. humiliate money but not yourself. I booked last 2 nights in Bari and enjoyed our final stay in Puglia.
You won't believe how relief we were getting out of this location. 

I would suggest families who travel with kids be aware of that place. Just study location, read reviews (all of it), don't miss anything and than make decision, as you can fall into expensive mistake, if you decide to stay here for more than 2 nights.

I would like to gave few tip to the property: for a minute or maybe a split of a second, step into traveller shoes and feel the need and give it back to us. It's so little that we all asking: the service that we have paid for!!!

I could see this place be useful for people who searching piece and do lots of  meditation: Yoga people....

I woudl think Twice before going here again! One night is OK to stay. 2 Nights is your very MAXIMUM.

We had our wedding here and it was the most magical location. Lucia, Giovanni and all staff were so wonderful! The pool is a highlight for any guest and the food was outstanding. 

We also stayed before just as tourists and it was equally amazing. Highly recommend to visit and take it in this unique place!

Favorite hotel in Puglia

Wow!  The staff. The room. The facilities. The location. ALL perfect, but let’s take them one at a time.

The ladies in the office were so helpful! We arrived during a downpour and they met us with an umbrella and offered to help with our luggage – but we were already soaked and couldn’t see why they should have to get wet too! They were super helpful at every turn.

And then there was Meena (I’m not sure of the spelling). Our waitress for breakfast, sometimes our housekeeper and catering assistant at the several events that were held at the venue during our 4-day stay. She was an absolute delight! The perfect way to start each day was seeing her smiling face for breakfast!

Speaking of events, one reviewer didn't like the fact that this beautiful setting was often used for special events. That's sad. We saw a couple of weddings there and loved the atmosphere of love and laughter!

The grounds, situated amid acres and acres of olive trees, are magnificent. The landscaping and the pool are superbly done.

Having the use of the “living room” was a special addition. (Because of all of the old masonry in the rooms, the living room is the only place that gets wifi.)

We took several day trips to nearby sites and it was always nice to “come home” in the evening.

A great place to stay. Next time, we will stay longer!

We loved it!

We spent four nights here as part of a tour.  My room was very comfortable although a bit of a trek from the dining room but perhaps a good thing after a large meal. The staff were charming and helpful and looked after us very well indeed.  Breakfast was varied and delicious although I think I might have been unlucky in my choices at dinner as on two occasions I could not eat my main course.  However, everything else was delicious so I certainly did not starve.
As far as I'm am concerned, this hotel is quite isolated and finding an alternative venue to dine is almost impossible unless you have a car - which of course we did not.  However, if this does not bother you then this is  very pleasant place to stay

The marketing photos are pretty accurate, but don't quite do justice to the beauty of the area of olive grove around the pool. 

They also hide the primary function of this place, which seems to be as a wedding venue. (This is actually clear in the printed brochures available to locals).

 In the 7 days we've been here,  6 weddings have dominated. With that comes the usual collateral: distinctly average but overpriced food; restricted access to the [pretty] common areas ("it won't affect you, but would you mind having your evening drinks over here because the the wedding drinks are in the main courtyard"); some dischordant decor (giant white plastic letters spelling "love" next to the otherwise tasteful pool); and of course the loud evening music...of variable quality.

Imagining there wasn't a wedding going on and looking at it from the point of view of a normal holiday hotel, there is a lot to like. Very friendly and apparently well trained staff; great breakfast: beautiful landscape gardening; and rooms with a little character.

There are also details that leave a lot to be desired. 

The restaurant food was among the worst quality we had in 2 weeks in Salento. ('Fried delights' weren't properly defrosted, salads not fresh, fish-based pasta dishes overly salty, etc.), and the ambiance destroyed by intrusive tacky music. 

The so called gym is a small worn out collection of non functional excercise machines. 

The rooms have open baths and showers in the bedroom floor, one with a wobbly ladder laid out as the access between it and the toilet. Quirky, but it's not really conducive to relaxation to have to concentrate on your footing so as avoid an accident.

You could sit during the day in the in the pretty courtyard if you don't mind the owner sprawled smoking in the cleaner seats or take your chances under trees in those not cleaned of bird droppings and other detritus, but in fact the overly deep shape of the chairs means they're not comfortable anyway.

Outside some of the rooms there is a single seat. What's your partner supposed to do? stay inside?

He/she could watch the pixelated satellite TV piped (by scart) into vintage TV sets, with small screens in the so called "superior" rooms.

Lavazza coffee machines are a nice touch, but charging 1 euro for each capsule isn't.

The pricing at the pool side lunch is nothing short of cynical. 20 euros for a club sandwich, 7 for a ham sandwich, 6 for a small beer all reflect not the quality of the food, but the fact that there is no competition of any kind within 20 minutes drive.

In fact the place is surrounded by charming olive grove, some of it's own and some allocated as a nature reserve, and there are signs all around of the tourist cycle route. Other hotels in this price bracket provide bicycles for guests' use, to explore. Here they can arrange one for the same cost as hiring a car.

You can walk to the scruffy beach in the run-down town of Casalabate in about 35 minutes, but frankly the walk through the olive groves is the highlight, even though it's unfortunately ridden with fly-tipped rubbish.

Wedding guests at the Tenuta Monacelli for just a day obviously don't care about such thing, and and they clearly make up the bulk of the guests, then its no surprise that others aren't really important to the owners.

Their apparent complacency was visible as they took over the, previously tranquil, pool area at the weekend with an ostentatious frolic with young friends/relatives, making clear that paying guests are secondary.

Beging asked to vacate a the picnic style tables to make way for the friends/relatives was deeply unimpressive.

Overall, it's a place of great potential, excellent gardens and best visited for one night, as part of a wedding party, but for a week's holiday, we made an expensive mistake.
