Comfortable accommodation which was of a standard expected for the price. Helpful owner and staff available as and when required. Very peaceful location with minimal noise and light pollution so lovely mornings (sunrises) and evenings (star gazing) to start and end the day. As only a small number of units, there are plenty of chairs/loungers around the pool so no battle to get a spot by the pool. Property is a working farm (although there was little noise) so plenty of areas to wander or to find a quiet spot. Guests in general were all very respectful of each other. Pool kept well-maintained with cleaning every night. You must have a car as nearest facilities are several miles away. For food, we would highly recommend Il Panorama in Librizzi and especially Casa del Priore (near Patti but plan your route beforehand as is a bit difficult to locate) - the food at Case del Priore was true Sicilian and absolutely delicious (believe the reviews!). Seemed to be only Italians eating at Casa del Priore which was a very good sign!). Be aware that mosquitoes can be quite bad, especially in the hot summer months, therefore bring insect repellent with you (and ensure you use it!) as the bugs seem to find tourists particularly tasty! We hope this is helpful to those considering Borgo Maisale.

Very nice - peaceful

Exactly what we were looking for and not too close to the coast(5m/8km) and bustle. After a personal difficult time that we have behind us, this was a haven. We really enjoyed the friendly owners. We are lucky to have experienced this!!
Did like the indoor play area with small fitness. 
Very nice a Sicilian specialty = Sicilian breakfast ! You should take this once in a bar.
From Maisale we made ​​nice trips and have seen a lot. Visited Stromboli, Etna and other highlights ..

It was a little paradise !

Upon arrival the owner was not available, so there was no welcome whatsoever, no introduction to the accommodation and or the facility. The only welcome we received was from around 10 cats that were constantly everywhere. Under the car, on your terrace, in the kitchen window, eating food from the table when you get up for a moment, under your feet when you sit at the terrace table.... everywhere. I am allergic to cats, so I was not amused, but apart from that, we all agreed that it was simply unhygienic. When in a facility like this there are maybe one or two cats roaming, OK, but 10? There was also a stable with some horses on the premised and this gave a constant smell of horses in the facility, anyway, maybe everybody else likes this, but we did not...

A young committed lady and her partner seemed to be running the daily show but were obviously overwhelmed it seemed. She was there day and night being helpful and friendly. She did her best to please everybody as good as she could, the fact that apart from Italian she did not speak a word of English (or any other language for that matter) may not have helped either, because 90% of the guests were non Italian.

Only after a few days, Isabelle, the owner, showed up for the day and was running around frantically apologizing to everybody that she also had commitments elsewhere. "Is everything OK?.... well not really, oh.....well anyway, today we organize tour of the wine making facility...." 

First things first, I thought, but not so....

The location is fine, the distance to the beach was around 15 to 20 minutes by car. Cefalu and other cities are easily reachable by car but there are only a few acceptable restaurants in the immediate neighborhood.

After the second day in the complex, the water in the pool turned green, This forced us to go to the beach every day, during the entire week we did not spend one single day at the complex. The young lady explained (in Italian) that she had put chlorine in the weir, but since we did not see the pump working, the pool water remained green for the rest of the week....

Another guest, that spoke German as well as Italian explained that apparently on orders of the owner, the pump is switched most of the day to save electricity.

The apartments are spacious and "relatively" clean. There is only a very basic set up in the kitchen (two real wine glasses, no sharp cutting knife...) The bathrooms were small and very basic. One toilet roll was available when we arrived with a family of 4 on a Saturday afternoon... The shower curtain was filthy, there was no soap dish in the shower to place a bottle of shampoo for example..

The bedrooms are very noisy. Right behind our apartment there was a sort of communal grill area. One of the guests started to cook his dinner here every evening around 9pm and then hung out there with other guests until 2 or 3am, which is his good right. This prevented us however from sleeping, but he was not the only cause that prevented us from sleeping unfortunately ....every night the owner's dog barked from 2 to 3 am and indeed (as the other reviewer wrote) the rooster that crowed also every morning from 3.30am. So we caught up some sleep on the beach instead.... 

Besides all this, in Sicily summers are hot, this we know... Would it have been nice to install some A/C units at least in the bedrooms?? The bedrooms are just too hot to sleep in. A small split A/C unit would solve all the above mentioned problems. Like this you would avoid being  stung by mosquito's, having to listen to the other guest, get the BBQ smell in your room every evening, being woken up by the dog and the rooster, avoid the sweltering heat and get some sleep...!

But then again, if the pool pump is not allowed to run for more than a few hours because of electricity cost, then an A/C is probably completely out of the question.

Overall we had rented two large apartments and unfortunately if we sum it all up, the overall experience was disappointing. We had stayed at other Agriturismo's in Italy during previous years and were always pleasantly surprised by the personal care that the owners had put in, regrettably not on this occasion.

This facility has all the potential to make it really nice, if only the owner would put in some more effort and care then I am sure one can have a really nice and relaxing vacation...

Disappointing Agriturismo lack of personal touch and care

Absolutely wonderful place. Isabella is so so hospitable and couldn't be more relaxed or friendly. She spent time with the children and showed them around the farm, gave us fresh eggs from the chickens and took me to a local shop on the Sunday which she had opened especially for me. A truly magical experience.
