I booked a night as a birthday surprise for my husband. 
So we were hoping to spend some memorable time in Mantova. 
My surprise was ruined as soon as I saw 2 stars at the entrance, instead of 3 (as booking says)... 
Terrible smell welcomes you as you open the door. 
In 5 min we were done and told we could go into our room. 
Well... First impression "hm, it's actually fine!"....BUT then you look around and find out that:
There was no wardrobe or a fan. 
Electric plugs didn't work. 
Bathroom was filthy!!!!
10 ml of washing shampoo... 
.... A lot to say.... extremely dusty windows... and on top of all, cocroach in the bathroom!!!! 
One, baby cocroach but it says all about this place. 
Didn't sleep at all in this hotel. 
I hated myself for this choice... 
Obviously you can hear other people's TV or any other noise from nearby rooms.... 

Breakfast? Coffee with croasant.  Normal. 

Parking IS free, if you are lucky to find one.... 


I was fooled!!!

I have just read the other reviews and I'd seen them before we went!  There's no other way to say it, but this place is a  DIVE!  it does has parking, which was one of the things that attracted us.  But when you get out of the car you are greeted with hundreds of cigarette butts.  Inside you must pay straight away (have also now learnt that lesson), then up the dirty stairs to our room.  It stunk of cigarette, the toilet seat was broken and there are no power points.  The smell became so bad that at 12am I went and asked to be moved to another room.  To their credit they did, but as we were moving our things into it, we could clearly hear the 'activities'going on in another room.  Ok, fair enough, you can't do much about that, but shortly after we could clearly hear the clip clopping of female shoes leaving.  Not long later, we heard her return and so did the 'activities'!  This went on most the night!  Breakfast was a donut and coffee.  There was one small sachet of shampoo, no soap, one towel each, but no shower mat, oh and the shower was so small that when I was washing my hair, my elbows hit the sides.  To top it off, it said they speak english, but apparently not!  It was interesting to read that they didn't speak italian, because they spoke perfectly good Italian, just not english.  I hated being there and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.  It's dodgy, dodgy dodgy!

Don't Do It

Coming through Mantova for a night, we were looking for a comfortable quiet hotel where we could easily park. This hotel was easily visible from the main road. Lots of free parking places indeed just in front of the hotel. And access to Mantova is easy.
But what a deception! Service was non-existent, we got a room key but were'nt even told which floor to go to! We had to pay 65 euros for the night even before having seen the room (now the lesson is learned!), a strong dog smell from the front door up to the room itself, dirty corridors. 
It got worse once inside the room. Dusty floor, spider webs round the windows (must not have been opened for years) with dead bugs and an old sock on the windowsill. Matresses were comfortable enough for a good sleep, but we did not feel too comfortable with the kids duvets on our twin beds (no double rooms left in spite of the many keys on the counter). No plugs available to charge the phones, electrical cables apparent even in the bathroom.
In the bathroom, no soap provided, dead main light, dirty floor and thick black mold behind the shower stall doors (that were not sealed at the base of the stall). 
No internet in the room.
When we left we saw 3 other keys on the counter, there was not owner to be found. 
The WORST hotel we stayed in for that price range, worth probably half the price we paid. A real shame.

what a rip-off!

For 65 Euro a night this place was a shocker.  Internet does not work past the ground floor. Rooms are tiny and lit by fluorescent bulbs; bathroom is a closet.  Pillows? What pillows.  Breakfast was a coffee and plain toast. Advice: don't leave your key at the desk when you go out; rarely anyone watching it.   Plus sides: very young and friendly couple run it and are willing to go the extra distance if you ask. Super nice.  Free parking. Just outside the city center and very easy to get to.  Super convenient. Access to the lake and park is 100 meters out the front door. Quiet digs and market, restaurants, and local (not tourist) shops all very close by.  Definitely not worth the 65 euro, but if you want a convenient spot..try it.  Or if you want to relive those post University days when you would sleep anywhere.
