After a hectic few days in Naples, Matera was like a Shangri-La.  Solosud is in a great location and Paola is a wonderful host. She provided a warm welcome and and made us very comfortable. She also gave us lots of good tips for sightseeing and eating. Our ‘room’ (Le Limme) was spacious and well-appointed with a sofa, dining area and kitchenette along with the sleeping area. The attention to detail is evident in the furnishings and in the dining/kitchen ware provided. Everything was very clean and we had daily ‘housecleaning’. Paola provided a lovely breakfast each morning in her little courtyard, with fresh pastures, fruit and coffee. Solosud is close to lots of restaurants and sights. There is also a very good supermarket nearby which has a deli, fresh produce and a small selection of prepared meals. A few steps outside and you are overlooking the ravine. Highly recommended for a warm, hospitable stay in Matera.

Great place to stay in Matera

The owner/operator is an incredibly gracious hostess. She communicated with us before our arrival and took the time to orient us when we arrived.  She made herself available to answer questions and assist us throughout our stay. The facility was remarkable and well maintained. Located in a former cave dwelling it has been renovated yet maintains and respects its origins. The bathroom for example is modern. The linens and bedding are new, clean and fresh. The decor and furnishings are updated yet authentic to the Era. The location is perfect, situated a short walk from St. Peter piazza, cafes, restaurants and yhe stairs leading to the Sassi walking trails. We quite enjoyed our time in Matera and a large part of our wonderful experience was the beautiful accommodations. As seasoned world travelers we are quite comfortable to say that if you want to truly experience a genuine Matera stay, this is the place.we cannot recommend Solosud enough.

Incredible experience

Hostess with the Mostest ! 

Before traveling to Matera I searched for weeks a place to stay trying to find something nice, that felt original, centrally located in the Sassi. I found all that and much more with our wonderful hostess Paola at Solosud.  You would never guess meeting the affable, elegant, and calm Paola the care, consideration, and the effort it take to run a successful B&B with such a personal touch 

In the morning, Paola invites the guests in her own kitchen and shares a wonderful breakfast of fresh local products, both sweet and savory, delicious bar-standard coffee and ever so elegantly offers help to plan your day, tipping you off to the best places for lunch and about the events and location worth visiting. She then sends you out the door with a smile, handing you an umbrella — just in case it rains. 

While some B&Bs often lack the conveniences of a hotel — such as fancy lobbies, restaurants, and in-room phones — I happily make the trade-off for the personal touch that Solosud offers, a quiet, restful place in Matera to call home. The room was incredibly spacious, was exceptionally well-appointed and furnished with one of a kind, local artisans’ pieces, modern enough to be comfortable and “Cave” enough to give you a glimpse in what Matera must have been like in old times. Solosud oozes warmth and local color, thanks to Paola, making it one of my favorite accommodation in Italy.

I've been lucky enough to travel the world and to stay in some truly extraordinary places along the way.  Solosud is at the very top of the list.  No words can adequately describe how special Solosud is.  Not only are the rooms amazing, the location perfect, and the views otherworldly, the owner, Paola, was an exceptional host.  Her advice was invaluable, her knowledge was extensive, her help was plentiful, and her breakfasts were delicious.   Go to Matera, stay at Solosud, and see for yourself.  I think you'll love it as much as I did.

Outstanding stay in Matera.

We stayed 3 nights with Paola at Solosud and it was one of the highlights of our 3rd trip to Italy.  Paola was so helpful with parking, directions and information.  She is a delightful hostess and I would highly recommend her B&B.  The location is perfect for exploring the gorgeous city of Matera...so many things to see and do!  The view from her apartment and the breakfast table is breathtaking.  I highly recommend a stay with Paola at Solosud!

Wonderful Place

I think this has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. We were celebrating and the Solosud was just amazing. Incredible value for money and literally overlooks all of breathtaking Matera. Paola was a wonderful host and has made the b&b feel so special and beautifully designed. We will definitely be back- especially for the city of culture in 2019!

Absolutely amazing

My husband and I stayed at Solosud for 4 nights this month. While we found the Matera setting sublime and the host Paola very personable, our room left a bit to be desired. It was well-appointed and quite spacious. However, small pieces of plaster and paint chips kept flaking off from the ceiling and landing on our bed and the surrounding floor. It made sleeping quite unpleasant. It seems Paola would be wise to apply some type of sealant to the walls to prevent this from happening in the future.
