We unfortunately could only book one night here in September. We certainly would have stayed longer as the view here was the best we saw while in Matera and right from our private terrace! Valentina, via WhatsApp, kept in contact with us before and during our stay. She arranged a walking tour and a dinner reservation, both of which were excellent choices. We can fully recommend a stay here. Cats like to visit as well!
PS: be sure to have a WhatsApp account as this is a great way to keep in touch with Valentina. She is very quick to respond to any concerns.

A Wonderful Accommodation and View

We loved our stay in the Torretta ai Sassi. We had the tower room and the views from this B&B are fantastic. It is close and walking distance to the Sassi and the town. The host, Valentina, was fabulous recommending places to eat and giving information about the Sassi. Would recommend this hotel for a stay in Matera.

Amazing views!

A visit to Matera should be on everyone’s list of places to see in Italy and Torretta ai Sassi is the perfect place to stay while you are there. Every time I walked out onto our pretty stone terrace from our room, the incredible view of the ancient town took my breath away. Plus, our host Valentina was extremely helpful. She not only booked our transfer from Bari but made us dinner reservations at two great restaurants and offered good advice on the best way to see Matera with limited mobility issues.  The “ape” vehicle and driver she found for us turned out to be great fun!  I highly recommend Valentina and Torretta ai Sassi.

Breathtaking views and a very helpful host.

We recently stayed three nights in the cave room at Torretta ai Sassi in Matera and couldn’t have been happier!   It was such a wonderful experience and the view from our balcony was absolutely incredible (especially at night).  The room was spotless and we felt right at home and very comfortable during our stay.

What made it even better was the hostess, Valentina!   She went above and beyond to make sure our stay was memorable.   She always answered my questions promptly about where to eat, where to find a pharmacy (unfortunately we needed one during our stay), laundromat, etc.   Her restaurant recommendations were also terrific.  

There is also a parking garage about a 10 minute walk from the hotel where we parked our car for three days and never moved it.   Matera is a one-of-a kind experience and we are so thrilled that we finally got to visit!

If you are lucky enough to be able to book a room here, don’t hesitate!

Awesome stay!

If you are traveling to Matera, I can think of no better place to stay. Wonderful location, fantastic accommodations, warm friendly host. It was an experience of a life time made better by staying at Torretta ai Sassi.

Incredible property in a place like no other!

Firstly, Valentina is a wonderful, kind and attentive host.  She connected with me ahead of my trip and provided useful advice for my arrival to Italy which I appreciated.  Valentina also helped to arrange a taxi for me for pickup from Bari and the driver, David, was excellent.

The Guest House is lovely.  I arrived at night to the stunning view of Matera lit up and the next morning I could appreciate even more the lovely terrace and private space for my room.

The Sassi room itself was lovely and had everything I needed including a comfortable bed and a good shower.  I made use of the Tower Fan and that sufficed. 

The location was perfect because it was very quiet yet  was a short 5-10 min walk into the heart of Matera.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Torretta ai Sassi again and I cannot stress enough how wonderful Valentina is as a host.  She is dedicated to her guests not only enjoying their stay in the property but also this unique and stunning city that she is rightly proud to call home.

Wonderful stay in a charming Sassi guest house

A beautiful hotel in a spectacular location on the edge of the Sassi! Accommodations are modern and very  comfortable, and clean. Delicious breakfast buffet provided in a room carved from rock.The innkeeper provided excellent personal service, including highlighted maps,  directions, and suggestions about sites to see and restaurants to try. (There are) breathtaking views of the Sassi and the canyon created by the Torrente Gravina di Matera far below, from the terraces of the hotel.  Recommend it highly. Beuatiful hotel in a magical location

I can't say enough good things about this spectacular place and the lovely people who own and operate it. Valentina is a warm, genuine person who goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable, comfortable and worry-free. When you step onto the terrace and see the view for the first time, you will be stunned at it's beauty. The property is lovely, with herbs and flowers and both sunny and shady places to sit. The rooms are pleasing and very clean. It is located by the scenic perimeter walkway which you can take to explore the city. The optional breakfast is delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful property with great character and charm. The place is hard to find and there are lots of stairs but Mario came out to guide us and help us park our car. Once on the property, you can soak up the amazing view, the quiet setting and peaceful patio. Valentina provides a small, sweet  breakfast for an extra charge. There are rooms in an upper building but we stayed in the cave room. Everything is a 20-30 min. walk and Mario and Valentina are friendly and helpful.
