Hotel is on the first floor, without a lift, there are steps to enter in the reception area. Receptionist was very helpful. Our room was clean and spacious with balcony overlooking the road. It could be more modernized. Good room to enjoy the street life. No private parking, so search for a parking in the vicinity. For breakfast, you will be directed to a nearby cafè for a croissant and drink. Good restaurant and gelateria few steps away.

Good stay!

The location is good, 5 mins walk from railway station. The inn itself is clean and basic. Everything is alright but no wow factors. OK for just a short stay. Staffs are friendly and helpful, There is a good pizza restaurant nearby.

budget stay

Found this hotel on website and no mentioned of hotel being situated on the first floor without lift or help with luggages. Room very basic but comfortable. Window overlooking rotten debris and dangerous opening if children in room! Arrival and checking in was made in total darkness probably due to not many guests in house. Breakfast served in nearby pavement cafe, and surely you cannot call that a breakfast. Outrageous!!! One coffee and one croissant, take it or leave it!!! We were lucky it wasn’t raining, we asked for a juice and was told €4.00
Had to ask the receptionist for extra voucher (a meaningful 1 inch square paper) 1 between 2 of us. In room fridge very noisy at night, one of our room had a shower with no rim for controlling the water drainage making a lake in bathroom and overflowing into the bedroom. This is certainly not to be book again and advice family and friends not to book it!!!!! While we were out, we went back to pick up some medicine and found all room widely open, questioned the receptionist why, was told the cleaner was coming. Was furious because all our belonging were there and no security conscious adopted……

Not what it seem

The hotel has a perfect location for the bus/train station and is very close to the town centre. Very nice staff, quick and easy check-in and check-out. The room was clean and had all amenities. It was also very quiet. Good value for this price.

Nice stay, great location

Having toured Italy on 6 different occasions and stayed in a variety of hotels the Albergo Roma stands head and shoulders above the others so far. The hotel is clean, modern and friendly. The rooms are of an excellent standard with the added bonus of tea and coffee making facilities, a rare treat in Italy. The breakfast provide as part of the package is a buffet style and of a high standard. The restaurant is available for evening meal to both guests and the public and booking is advised as the quality of the food is very good and the 3 course set menu at 22 euros excellent value. The staff are charming and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that the guest’s needs are met. A great stay.

Excellent Hotel

This is a simple yet comfortable place right near the center of Matera.  The receptionist is very helpful.  The room is quite spacious to European standard.  The breakfast though,  is a bit disappointing.  It's only a croissant and a coffee in the bar nearby.  Anyway,  this is still a good option for its location.  

Very convenient location for Matera visit

location is very good: close to the sassi and very near the train station, room are nice but not excellent, reception is not 24 houres open, breakfast is just one coffee and brioche in a bar down the street, i think price is a little bit expansive

good location

hotel does not provide any parking place so be aware of the huge problem that you might face if you are coming by car to this hotel. in front of the hotel it is almost impossible to park even for 5 minutes to make check in. I asked hotel stuff where it is possible to find a parking place and they did not warn me that the traffic in one part of their street is limited (this part is just 50 meters down the road). I was circling around the hotels quarter for 15 minutes and finally I found a parking place in Roma street (the street where the hotel is)... 5 months after this trip I got a letter from Matera Police that I have to pay 100 euro because I was driving car through that part of  Roma street where the traffic is limited... I sent an email to hotel asking them if I (as a guest of the hotel) had an authorization to drive a car through that part of the street and they told me that they couldn't give me any authorization... when I asked them why they hadn't warn me of that traffic rule in their street they became very impolite and in the end they were threatening me with some legal accusation if I write online on tripadvisor about my bad experience with them (I have their thretaning in my email). It is really disappointing to treat your guests this way

another problem is that there is no elevator so you must carry your luggage on stairs - which is a big problem if you carry huge big heavy suitcase

breakfast is really poor and it is served in a small bar 50 metres down the street - you get one coffee and a small brioche if you are lucky to find a free table

position of the hotel is really good if you are not coming by car to Matera - city center is just 2-3min walking distance

big problem with finding parking place

Basic and dated 2 star hotel. Only good point it's 250 metres from the Sassi. Outdated room with an old 14" tv up on the wall. On main road so close to all the shops. On first floor and no lift so if you're old and with a big case ask for help.
