Spent two nights in this wonderful small Hotel (even if you can not call Hotel any structure with only 4 rooms) and have to admit that was an incredible experience. Just arrived you will appreciate the location , which is really "above" the door-entrance of the old city. Is at few steps away from the Portici , which is the Merano's 5th Avenue (if you can pass me this comparison). The Christmas Market, which was our primary target is also at 50 mt. distance. After that you will explore your room which is into a building which has quite a bit of history.... normally it is not so easy to fit our modern standards and need into an old structure but here the result is simple and stunning. Also the breakfast service is above the average and if you are a cake lover here you will find your "slice" of paradise. Completely worth the money you spend. Will come back for sure

Sleeping in the history ......

We had booked two rooms for our stay at the Sigmund B&B in Merano, so we can comment on different room types. In addition, I am a heavy business and personal travel with experience across most global hotel chains, top boutique hotels and high end B&B providers. 

SUMMARY
the rooms are well designed and spacious, but the overall experience is severely let down by the attitude of the service personal and their lack of flexiblity. I normally do not take the time to go into detail with these reviews, but this is an exception and I want to make sure future potential guests benefit from our experience. 

1. The rooms:
the rooms all feature custom woodwork and are named according to the type of wood used. Finishing is well done and it is clear that the owners invested a lot of money into the renovation of the rooms which was completed around 3 years ago. Rooms had flat panel TVs, modern and bright bathrooms. The so called walnut room is the biggest one, I believe, with a NY loft style gallery and second bed upstairs. That room in particular was quite dark due to only one small window facing the front of the hotel and indirect lighting from the gallery. If you like views of the city and bright rooms, I would not recommend the walnut room.

2. Location:
Definitely a plus, right by the centre and less than five minutes walk to the the thermal spa of Meran, which is worth a visit. During our first night it was the citiy festival and we had loud rock music all night till around midnight, which was not pleasant, but not the fault of the hotel. Just beware that if you are a light sleeper, maybe book elsewhere. You can hear the cars driving by, the garbage trucks in the morning, and the church bells all day. If location is most important to you, then you will not mind.

3. Service:
This was the disappointment of the entire stay. There is a younger lady who covers the reception desk / breakfast table / and dinner tables of the restaurant from morning till evening. She is generally friendly, approachable and efficient. 
There is also a more senior lady, possible the matron of the house, who has no smile for anyone, is generally cold and gave us the impression of being uninterested in the well being of the B&B and restaurant guests. If you read the other reviews carefully, I believe this is the same person other reviewers refer to. 

Example: we were repeatedly refused hot water in our room which we had requested to feed our baby. They also refused to bring up a simple food dish for our baby from the restaurant - just one stairway below. 

The hotel insisted they are "only a B&B" and not a hotel - hence unable to even bring us hot water. We paid over 1,000 Euros for two rooms for 3 nights. In the world of B&B accomodations that is premium pricing...but unfortunately, not premium service. 

So overall, I would NOT recommend this hotel. If you value a designer room and central location, maybe you can try. If you want friendly and flexible service and a quiet place to stay, I suggest you look somewhere else.
