We have just returned from a wonderful week self-catering holiday at Centoni Villa.  Our party was made up of five couples - all guests except one over 60 years old and a couple of 70 year olds. We have holidayed together as a group many times before. The outside temperature hardly dipped under 30 degrees but as with all old buildings it was often a little cooler inside the delightful old villa. Night time temperature was an average in the mid-twenties.  The swimming pool was a welcome feature after a day out. It was useful that we could sit in different areas of the property depending on the time of day and hot sun.  We ate all our meals outside.

During our stay, we visited Pisa, Lucca (by train), Montecatini and enjoyed a wine tasting with lunch at a local vineyard, Buonamico.  The quaint little town of  Montecarlo is a short uphill walk away with panoramic views for miles around.

On our arrival at the villa, we were met by Lido who lives next door.   He showed us around the property and two days later we met his son Massimo (who lives downstairs in the villa) and paid him the balance and deposit for our stay.  Unfortunately none of us speak Italian and sadly Lido and Massimo had limited English with conversations undertaken using a translation App.  It did say on the website “English spoken”.  We had noted that some other reviewers had said they were given local advice, but as we were unable to communicate we felt sad to not have a better interaction.  We would have enjoyed learning about local life and olives/oil as we were surrounded by olive trees.

When Lido showed us around, we were shocked to find that what was advertised as a twin bedroom, was in fact a room with bunk beds, and the room with a double and two singles was also a room with bunk beds! The bathrooms were not as described either.  There are two rooms with showers, one room with a hand shower over the bath, and the fourth bathroom had no shower at all. All have toilets, washbasins and bidets. The floor plan on the website is a little misleading.

We appreciated that the property is in the countryside and have to expect a certain amount of noise. However the cockerel crowing and dogs barking, some distant and also one in the garden below, (starting at 05.15) did make for a disturbed night.   

We did all enjoy our visit to this area and obviously groups all have different needs.  Had we known about the bunk beds, only two proper showers, barking dogs  we would not have booked this property.  We feel that there should be amendments to the property description concerning no English spoken, one bedroom with bunk beds and only two shower rooms. We didn’t see the bikes either.
On departure we did speak with Massimo but as we were having to use the translate App it was difficult to try to explain the above concerns re the bunk beds.  We gave up discussing further concerns.

(Local information.  It should also be said that we understand from a local person that insect bites are common in this area at this time.  Every one of us had many bites so bring your repellent and bite treatment.)

Disappointed

I've had the pleasure of staying at Villa Centoni twice in the last year. It is a wonderful respite to relax and enjoy the peaceful Tuscany views. Lido, Massimo and Dominga are amazing hosts and work hard to make me feel welcome during my stays. I look forward to staying at Villa Centoni again soon! Grazie! 

Fantastico! 

We spent a week in Villa Centoni and had such a fabulous time! 

The location was perfect for us as we wanted to explore Tuscany and particularly Florence, Pisa and Lucca, all within an hour's drive, or easily accessible by train.

We were really looking for a villa in the middle of the countryside with local amenities and Villa Centoni certainly met our demands! Montecarlo is a lovely little village with a couple of restaurants and a new gelateria. There is also a large supermarket in Altopascio which was perfect for buying all the food to feed the 9 of us! 

The villa has plenty of space: four large double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, three bathrooms plus one toilet, a large living room / dining room and a large, well-equipped kitchen. There is a large outside area with a big table under a gazebo and a BBQ area. The swimming pool is just perfect for freshing up and working on your tan and there are very nice views from the villa terraces. Coming back home after a hot day visiting Florence, we couldn't wait to jump in the pool! It was just perfect. 
 
Massimo and Lido were extremely friendly and helpful, they came every day to clean the pool, water the plants and gave us plenty of suggestions on the surrounding areas! 



A perfect weeks holiday in beautiful Tuscan hills

Fabulous house, excellent facilities, beautiful location. Very clean and welcoming. Our only criticism was that the owners' two dogs barked every night, while we were eating our evening meals and also during the night (one particular night at midnight and again at 5am) and woke everyone up regularly during every night. Having said that, we would come back because the villa and area were lovely, but we would bring earplugs!

Only criticism is the barking dogs!

We have stayed here many times, and to be honest, there has never been a place in all the many trips to Italy where we were greated with more authentic warmth than at Villa Centoni.  Lido is a prince.  Very solicitous, very gracious, very warm.  He has catered events for us, and has always gone out of his way to provide the most special service imaginable.  Set amidst olive trees and vineyards near the summit of Montecarlo, it offers a great view of the Val di Nevole.  Lido owned a restaurant in Torino and was very accomplished and is a superb chef.
