We booked for 2 night but extended our stay to 7 as we were enjoying  the town and the hotel so much.  Great service from the reception staff and a charming place to stay 

Great service which is provided by their sister hotel Leon D'Oro in the main square.  To checkin  (or out) you must go there but it's only a few minutes away.
The hotel is in a ZTL and whilst it's possible to drive I to the main square we found it easier to use the public parking at the top of the hill & walk down.

Great peaceful hotel very well located

Beautiful hotel a 5 minute walk to the main square. It's linked with Hotel Leon D'oro and you need to check in and pick up keys from there. We were there early and were told we could not check in till 3pm however they stored our bags for us. Room was clean and tidy. Memory foam mattress and pillows. Toiletries in bathroom were lovely with cleaning service daily. 

Nice little find

Good location and comfortable rooms. 
Nicely decorated for an authentic Italian feel. 
Located down a quaint side road, very quiet so good for relaxing.
Location is great for access to main square without being noisy. 

Breakfast is served across the road and is pretty basic. The staff whip the breakfast away at 10am on the dot so don't be late!
 The required locking of the front door every time you enter / leave can become a bit complicated if you are travelling as a couple as only one key is provided so it is relatively easy to lock someone in / out without planning.

Quaint and authentic hotel

1 - this was effectively an annexe of of Leon D'Oro
2- Orta is lovely
3- IF (and probably wouldn't recommend it) don't book a downstairs room opening on to the courtyard if you  are not a smoker!
4 -breakfast was very good

Ok my fault, hadn't read booking info, arrive entered , waited at reception, and waited, tried to leave - only to find had been locked in. The reception is unmanned, and guest are asked to lock and unlock front door as and when leave.
Room was quaint, full of character, and almost medieval (as was TV, only an issue as I wanted to watch the TDF - the screen on my phone was bigger, but no wifi in room)
No air con - so windows open, shutters closed, allowing us to be woken by a room full of smoke at 0500!
Receptionists (at Leon D'Ora ) had been very helpful the previous night, when complaining (and living , with no complaint about paying for 2nd night) receptionist (different, but if playing good cop-bad cop suggest separate the couples) were unhelpful and rude when we checked out "late" in spite of fact we were still paying til next day!!
On the other hand helpful receptionist previous afternoon (Sat 28th August) had been very helpful and directed us to hieing a canoe, which allowed us to paddle round the island, and also swim in the cleanest lake water ever.
Summary - go to Orta, swim paddle and experience the serene beauty of the place - but I would stay somewhere else!

Orta lovely - be careful which room you book!

The Contrada dei Monti is a nice hotel with friendly staff that were pretty accommodating and tried their best to be helpful with various requests or queries. 

I would generally recommend this hotel, though my only negative feedback is that they were very strict about the end of breakfast, which was a bit abrupt as we were almost ushered out. Also the room was a bit more expensive than we would have expected for the room. We don't need a huge room or for it to be fancy but it was a 'cosy' and the bathroom was a bit of a squeeze.

We didn't spend a lot of time in the room so it wasn't much of an issue, just felt it could have been a bit cheaper considering.

Nice hotel, friendly staff. A touch basic for the price.

This hotel is on a side street in the old town area, just an incredible area.   I was told that the building was built in the 1400s.  I don't know if that is true or not.   The ceilings of most of the building are old, hewn, brown beams and are just gorgeous.

Our room was large by European standards, had tile floors, a queen bed, a large armoire including a safe in it, a small round glass table which we used as a desk, two chairs with the table and a shelf with an analog TV on it.   The walls had what appeared to be a hand draw line decor on them.  A very nice touch.   The windows swung open and there were some substantial shutters which you could open as well.   Some rooms had great views of roofs, ours did not.   A higher room might be better.   There is an elevator which we never used.

There is no Wifi at all in the hotel.   They refer you to a hotel about a block in distance away which would sell you internet access in time increments which you could spread out over time.   We were there for 3 days and bought 12 hours of access for one Euro.   We left time on the clock when we left.

The bathroom was acceptable.  A typical prefab European shower about 2 x 2.5 feet.  One door kept coming off the rail, but was easy to fix.  The bathroom had a bidet and a dual flush toilet.   The sink was free standing but there was a tile shelf above the sink to lay items.  The bathroom was clean.

At night you have to unlock and re-lock two doors to enter and leave the hotel.   This was a pain and to me a fire hazard.  I saw no way of getting out of the hotel without sticking a key in those locks in poor light in a difficult situation.

There were multiple three prong Italian outlets in the room.

The door to the room had a key lock, not electronic in any way.  It also did not automatically lock behind you.  I walked off a couple of times without locking my room.

A free breakfast was provided with a lot of bread, pastry, fruit, fresh juice and types of meat as options.  Breakfast was good.

Lots of character, good visit

Inviting location, down a cobbled street, down steps from the parking area. If you drive your car, you must park above the old town and walk down, so plan your luggage accordingly. Even so, the access was not unduly difficult. Nice room, nice breakfast. If I ever return to Orta San Giulio, this is where I will stay.
