Again, I purchased a Groupon deal. It's a good way to discover new & wonderful restaurants without breaking the bank, & I  can honestly say we weren't disappointed! As I described in the title, everything was perfect, from the relaxing ambient set in the classic Pugliese countryside, surrounded by olive trees & bougainvillea, with views of the nearby lake (which unfortunately  we could not see in the evening). Waiters extremely attentive & polite, the friendly  restaurant owner who welcomes each & everyone personally. Top quality fresh food products cooked to perfection. Original dishes too based on the Pugliese traditional dishes.  A great value all round meal for the family & I'm told even without a groupon deal, very reasonably priced too...another great reason to come back!

Perfect!

My wife and I had heard a lot about the italian agriturismo concept: stay at a farm (or: farm hotel), enjoy the nature far away from the city bustle, delve into the food that is produced on the farm. 

Podere San Michele was all that we expected - and much more! 

This agriturismo is a bit out of the way - you have to go there by car - but when you've found it, there are only a few kilometers to a fantastic Puglia beach (Baia dei Turchi) with crystal blue water and fine sand. The lovely seaside town of Otranto is just around the corner. More so: many of the other attractions in this fantastic region (Lecce, Alberobello, Ostuni, Locorotondo) are just a day trip away. 

But San Michele is an attraction in its own sense: the owner, Massimo, and his wife have gone out of their way to create an oasis of calm and tranquility just a few hundred meters away from an idyllic lake. They're incredibly forthcoming and sweet and made us feel right at home. 

Our room was basic but clean and met our expectations perfectly. 

The restaurant were Massimo and co. served their own produce was a highlight on our 3-week road trip through Italy! And believe me, we had a lot of great food during that trip!

Five stars is the maximum on Tripadvisor - I'd give this place six, if I could!

Fantastic agriturismo in lovely surroundings

In the countryside, surrounded by the fields worked by the family, this is an idylic spot.  Our room was a good size with all we needed, and the breakfast buffet was lovely with fruit and homemade cakes and coffee.  We also had dinner here twice, which was excellent.  There is no menu, but all is explained easily and we had a huge platter of vegetarian starters to share, followed by various pasta in different sauces, all with their own produce, and even a couple of scrummy desserts!  Sunday night the restaurant was closed, but it is the evening to be in Otranto, as everyone is out meeting and watching everyone else!  A good base from which we drove to 
Santa Maria di Leuca at the bottom of the heel one day.
