TRAVELERS AVOID. Stayed here last summer as a last minute booking. Host picked me up at the airport, but asked for my passport and money for gas while we were in the car. Very strange, I thought I was being kidnapped by the Italian Mafia (only half kidding). Check-in was long and cumbersome, and the accomodation is far from the beach. The room is ok, the breakfast wasn't very good. The biggest turn off is that the owner provides poor hospitality and doesn't make you feel welcome.

Very Chaotic and Unwelcoming

I stayed at the Lemon Tree B&B in Mondello for two nights at the end of May.  I previously stayed there three years ago, as well, for a longer stay.  The B&B is owned and operated by a very hardworking, conscientious, helpful young man who will eagerly go out of his way to accommodate and please his guests.  

Denny picked me up in Mondello after I was dropped off by a bus I took from the Palermo Central train station.  Later that same evening Denny drove to airport to pick up another guest who arrived on a late flight.  Reading through some of the other reviews will provide a good sampling of the many things Denny has done to accommodate and please his guests.

The B&B, although located in a bit of an out of the way but safe location, is a nicely furnished and decorated, very clean, well maintained, spacious, solidly built home. The linens and towels are freshly washed and ironed every day and the beds are very comfortable.  The shared bathrooms are spotless and big with functioning, up-to-date fixtures and roomy showers with good water pressure and ample hot water.   There’s a nice garden, first-floor porch, and a rooftop terrace with a view of a nearby mountain if you wish to seek out a quiet place to sit and relax.  Denny will gladly fix you up with a bicycle if you wish to peddle the short distance to the beach or into the center of Mondello.  I have done both.  

Denny warmly welcomes each of his guests with some often homemade cakes and biscuits (Denny is a trained pastry chef) and limoncello.  I appreciated the complimentary bottle of limoncello when I checked out.  A tasty breakfast of pastries, small pizzas, and fresh coffee or tea is served in the dining room and can also be eaten at a table outside on the porch.  WiFi is provided and works well.  One quiet evening Denny took me into Mondello for some of the best gelato I had ever had in Italy.

The clean and comfortable accommodations and definitely the friendly, personalized attention will make a stay at the Lemon Tree B&B in Mondello a memorable and pleasing one.  I am looking forward to returning there soon.

Warm & welcoming B&B in beautiful Mondello

The place is nice, our room and bathroom were big and comfortable, clean. But it's in the middle of a maze of streets (not sure we'd been able to get there without a gps), quite a long walk away from the seaside.
Tho owner is extremely nice and helpful, but quite slow and sometimes looked a bit lost.

Nice place, BUT...

I stayed in this B&B outside the season, which was probably a mistake from my side. I was picked up in the airport after agreement with the host (he was the only one there since I was the only guest) who didn't understand English and from the beginning seemed extremely confused and suddenly asked me to pay for a ticket from the airport (we agreed on 20 euros for the pick up, suddenly it got confusing with 3 euros for the ticket and 20 euros when we arrived at the B&B, and he didn't have change enough so he had to owe me some euros), didn't want to give me a receipt of my payment when we arrived and I'd paid for the stay, and couldn't answer anything I was asking, so he ignored me or answered something completely different... It was very strange and I didn't feel  comfortable here. It didn't help that I was left alone the first night without knowing when anyone would be back in the house which was far away from everything) 

Normally I think this is a family driven B&B and I read good reviews, so maybe I wasn't very lucky by coming at this point. It was far away from the beach and hard to find as well, so I wouldn't stay here unless I have a car... It got very dark in the area and big dogs were running free and barking which was not very nice in the evenings. I give two stars for the, in spite of everything, friendly host and the nice rooms, but the unprofessional behavior is just not good enough. I ended up going to another B&B in Palermo after two days instead, which the host was very confused about and kept asking me why, but didn't understand what I was answering. 

Unstructured and chaotic experience 

B&B Lemon Tree is a totally lovely family run B&B in the middle of a bit of a run down yet safe and quiet area in Mondello.  The B&B was recently converted from a family home into a B&B and the work was well done.  The bedroom and bathroom we had were spacious, even by American standards.  The rooms were beautifully decorated and very, very comfortable.  The whole place was impeccably clean and we are particularly picky when it comes to cleanliness.  It was about a ten minute walk to a small commercial center where the bus stop to Palermo was located.  There were also restaurants and shops on the same street.  The people in the area were friendly and helpful.  There is secured free parking provided by the B&B.  The hotel owner is very process oriented.  Be prepared to have check in take one hour.  Also, if you are there in late October like we were be sure to bring your own maps and activity ideas as the tourist information center is closed and the B&B owner is not able to provide you with helpful information.  One other thing....use GPS to find the B&B.  It is difficult to locate.  We had a local gentleman and his family befriend us by letting us follow his car to the B&B and even he had trouble.  He asked two people on the street and two police officers.  None of them could help us.  Finally, one of the workers in a bar knew how to explain the route to the B&B and we arrived! Breakfast was pasty or personal pizzas with beverages (cappuccino was good!) Overall excellent value. We did enjoy our stay at the B&B Lemon Tree and would return again.
