I was very impressed by the hospitality of the family😀 what a wonderful holiday I spend there with friends. Southern Italian mood, olive trees, pool, music and a view of the room I enjoyed all. Cozy room with nice furniture, breakfast all were perfect.

Very comfy and breathtaking place

We booked in here for three nights from our Alastair Sawday special places to stay Italy guide. Touring over three weeks and suited our itinerary. Whilst the approach through a light industrial area is a little arresting you will find this fine establishment in it's olive grove oasis. You are greeted by the lovely Catia who will look after you. As the nearest town and restaurants is a 10 minute drive we had dinner in as you would not be able to drink. And why wouldn't you? Catia's mum, Rosaria is chef and produced beautiful meals. You have what's being prepared which is great fun and reasonable price at E30 a head plus local wine at just E15 a bottle so it's rude not to have two. Ingredients locally sourced or from their own land. Wonderful. Breakfast is equally excellent. Rooms spacious and fine and clean. Private terrace whilst there is a public area with pool. As one would expect, an Alastair Sawday should tick the boxes.

My husband and I stayed here for three days in June 2017.  We were welcomed with a glass of wine which was appreciated after the struggle we had to find the place. Unfortunately I had booked only a month before so we were unable to reserve the suite. I am giving it a 4 only because the bed was very uncomfortable and we kept hitting our toes on the metal posts while walking around it because the room was small. Other than that, it was fabulous. We ate there every night and the food was amazing!  It was prepared in house and we had something different every evening. And the prices were extremely reasonable. The hosts are very friendly and the grounds are very well maintained. I would highly recommend it!

A very tranquil spot

Very friendly and helpful staff and a delightful, spacious house with charming outdoor terrace for breakfasts, gardens, orchard and swimming pool. Our 'room' was unexpectedly a small suite, with two bedrooms (one double, one single), a small sitting area with French windows onto a balcony with a view over the pool and gardens and a spacious bathroom. We visited in late September towards the end of the season when there were very few guests, so It would seem we got a free upgrade. 

Everything was spotlessly clean.

No blankets available in the bedrooms, so we froze on the first night and had to ask for a blanket the following day. Given the lower night-time temperatures in September, we were surprised that blankets were not available in the rooms. The mattress was of poor quality and the bed linen was worn to holes in places. 

The location was somewhat marred by the adjacent light engineering company which was noisy throughout the day. We spent each day out and about exploring the nearby towns and forest so were relatively unaffected by it, but be warned if you are hoping for a quiet holiday lounging by the pool all day.

The access road to the Poggio was very rough and included traversing a very deep gully - which in our small hire car was nerve-wracking. 

Breakfast buffet was fine. Eating out on the terrace was a particular pleasure. The evening meals (no choice - but that's OK) were simple and made from fresh local ingredients and I would recommend eating there once. We ate there on more than one evening and were disappointed to find the same dishes being served. And overpriced at 30euros pp.

Friendly staff

Poggio di Luna is set in attractive and tranquil countryside, well placed for visits to Peschici and Vieste. Our family apartment was spacious and well-maintained, with a lovely verandah overlooking the beautiful gardens and inviting swimming pool. Catia and her family were extremely friendly and made us feel most welcome. The buffet breakfast was copious and appetising, with fresh fruit, cheese, yoghurt and pastries. The evening meals were an  opportunity to sample Rosaria's excellent cooking, which made fantastic use of home-grown produce. A great stay and highly recommended.

A wonderful place to stay!

Buoyed up in advance by press/Alistair Sawday reviews we had eagerly booked - but left after our 3 nights disappointed.

Sure - It's not their fault it rained. A lot. Or that the very badly maintained road to the house got washed away, trapping us there for 36 hours, but that experience did show up the place's faults. (But if thunder storms are forecast, think carefully, as apparently it happens from time to time...!)

Emailed ahead with ETA when we landed. 3 hours, approx. Drove South. Bounced up track. Rang gate. Nada. Kept ringing. Tried calling. Sent a text. Even email. Zilch. Eventually some other guests let us in with the car. Still no hosts, anywhere. For quite a while. So we gave up and drove to Peshici for dinner. And 2 hours later got a call asking where we were.

Entry successfully achieved. And the house is in a lovely spot - pool, sunloungers, olive trees etc (apart from the light industry below it). But "all rooms have lovely views and a balcony or courtyard"? Not ours. We got a small window. On the back. Maybe natural light was extra?

Even the lack of light couldn't disguise the hardest, most unforgiving mattress in history, a tired room and a blue shower room with a penchant for flooding onto the floor. And not a blanket in sight -so even with the air con slowly coaxed into producing heat, we shivered through two of the nights.

On a hot sunny day when you can be outside and you're only there for a night? Frustrating but not the end of the world. For 3 nights in the (very) wet - a real let down. Because all you can do is lie in the room - there ain't even a comfy chair to sit in, let alone a sofa downstairs.

A pleasant walk in the hills behind when the weather cleared? The track into the hills suffers rather from roaming guards of the canine variety.  Be prepared to shout at dogs - a lot.  (We eventually discovered some other guests gamely trying to inch their VW camper down the track through the woods to get in, the road at the bottom still being shut, who'd been chased all the way by dogs).

Top notch Puglian food to make up for it? It's not bad. But not quite anything to write home about. (The free glass of Rose on arrival was lovely though - and I think the highlight!)

We came with such high hopes. Maybe we were there on a duff few days. And I know the rain wasn't their fault. But it did show up the problems .
