PROS:
-conveniently located 3 minutes away from the Metro line A, where all the popular tourist sights are
-clean, tidy, comfy

-The hostess unfortunately spoke no English . Hard to communicate 
-Aside what you pay on booking.com, an additional 3.50€ must be paid per night 

Excellent choice for B&B

Very cosy appartement situated near the area of Cinecitta ! The bedrooms are very nice, the kitchen very smart and the lady in charge is very welcoming. Prices are very reasonable and the rooms are very confortable. Situated near the metro line A, in a very dynamic area, it's a wonderfull place to stay for a few days trip with friends or family.

Casa Carnera is an inexpensive B&B in relatively convenient location, operated by a likeable couple. With the low price, however, comes substandard hygiene and breakfast, topped by problems with hot water.

Casa Carnera is located about 200 meters away (3 minutes of walk) from Metro line B Guilio Agricola station. The said Guilio Agricola is a dozen stops away from the Roma Termini station, and it takes 30-45 minutes to reach most sights of interest from the B&B. This is an acceptable trade-off for the combination of low price and private bath, as more central B&Bs tend to be significantly more expensive or lack private bath. The immediate neighborhood is relatively clean and safe, but can be quite noisy, especially during weekends and in early mornings (5:30-6:30AM) with waste disposal trucks moving around. Nearby, on the way to the subway station, there is a branch of Grom, one of the finest gelato brands in Italy.

This B&B occupies fourth floor of a plain-looking residential building. Apparently it used to be a flat, and now has three warmly-painted rooms plus a shared kitchenette. The building is not well soundproofed, and we could hear people speaking on the above floor and in adjacent rooms. Our room looked cozy, but the floor, side tables, towel hangers in the bathroom, etc., had not been vacuumed nor dusted for a long time. Not a place to bring an asthmatic child. There was some tolerable level of mold in the shower stall. The building itself can be a bit tricky to pinpoint, especially at night, because there is only a small sign of “Casa Carnera” next to the building entrance. Once in the building, there is a small elevator that can take two people with some luggage.

The operation of this lodging is rather interesting. Guests pay a small percentage of the total price upon booking, and settle the rest in cash upon arrival. This can be the only time the guests will meet the owners. This is because the property is unmanned most of the times, with enough factory-made sweets, milk, juice, and espresso to last the duration of stay stored in a cabinet and a fridge for breakfasts. Guests can simply leave the keys in the room for check-out. The breakfast feels more like an unhealthy snack, but then Roman hotels in general seem to offer sub-standard meals.

The defining feature of this B&B, however, is the way hot water is handled. Truly an extraordinary feat of hydraulic engineering, hot water becomes available ONLY when both faucets at washbasin and shower in the bathroom are turned on AND no one else in the premise is using water, hot or cold, either in other rooms or in the kitchenette. It took more than a few heart-stopping surprises while taking a shower to figure out how to bring stable hot water.

The owners are the sole staff. They do not speak English, but are always smiling and are pleasant to interact with. We are sure that they will make good friends to most anyone. It is a shame, then, that they do not make good hoteliers.

To summarize, Casa Carnera is a small flat-turned-into-lodging, offering reasonable rates for a fair location. Unfortunately, it can be noisy, the hygiene and breakfast are sub-standard, and there is a major hot-water control problem. Friendly owners notwithstanding, we could not enjoy a comfortable stay, and would hesitate to recommend this B&B to our friends.

Sub-standard B&B in fair location

I stayed in casa carnera for a week in September 2012. Even though the b&b is not in a central location you can easily get to all the important sights within a matter of 20 mins. The metro stop is only a few mins away. The room was lovely and new and the house is located in a lively&clean neighbourhood away from the hustle and bustle of Rome. The owner, Alessia, is friendly and helpful and the price is quite convenient compared to all the other b&b's and hostels I had researched earlier.

Having said that casa carnera has got a few drawbacks and they are as follows:

- there's a gas/electric cooker but I have been told that guests are not allowed to use it due to safety reasons. It's difficult to prepare a meal of your own (unlike in many other hostels) as there are no basic kitchen utensils like a knife to cut bread or even a kettle to make some tea or instant coffee. There is however a microwave but that was of no use to me.
-breakfast is included in the price but it's very poor and consists mainly of sweet things to eat.
-no English or any other foreign language is spoken which makes it impossible to communicate if you have no comprehension of Italian.
All in all I had a good time in casa carnera and I would simply suggest putting some more thought into what may come in handy during a longer stay.

Good place but with a few drawbacks

Casa Carnera is the perfect place to stay! The room furnishing is selected very loveful and all the details make you fell like at home. You are clos to a subway station, so you can go very fast to all the important places in Rom...A perfect place to stay in a upcoming area of Rom.
