Santo Stefano is a small town and upon arrival the people were looking at us as if we were strange creatures. Luckely we have had a nice welcoming at BnB Le Coccinelle. The location is actually good if you want to visit other cities at the coastline. We stayed in touch with Luisa (per e-mail) during our stay and onsite her mom was a great help. Upon departure she embrased us and had a souvenir for us: selfmade jam. If we go back to Sicily (you never know) we would love to stay there again.

We spent only one night in this B&B and we were very well welcoming. We felt very free and confortable since the owner was very friendly. The room and bathroom are very clean. Highly recommended!

Very welcoming family

This is my first review since returning from our wonderful trip to Sicily. Simply put, staying in Santo Stefano di Camastra and at the B&B Le Coccinelle were highlights of our trip. The family that owns this B&B went above and beyond for us and were key to making our visit a successful and happy one, so I want to make sure I get this review posted first. 

I spent many months planning our September, 2013 visit to Sicily which included doing some family research in the town of Santo Stefano di Camastra. I really wanted to stay in this town for a few days instead of just making it a day trip visit from Palermo or Cefalu, but because we didn't rent a car and have limited Italian language skills, we had some logistics and questions to work out. 

From my first email contact with Luisa my mind was put at ease. She is the daughter of Grazia and Salvatore and helps manage this family run B&B. Luisa's English is perfect and she answered my many questions promptly. She also arranged our pick up and drop off at the train station. Taxi's aren't typically waiting at train stations in Sicily (especially in smaller towns) so it was important to get this setup in advance. I let her know what train we would be on and what time it was expected to arrive and our transport was waiting for us as expected. 

The B&B is located in a home from the early '900 that has been beautifully renovated and restored by the owners. Our room (Camera 1 on their website) was large, comfortable, clean, and bright with a balcony overlooking a quiet residential street. The decor was gorgeous with period detail shown in the furniture and decorations. Our private bath was also spacious with a great shower with plenty of hot water. There was air conditioning but we didn't need to use it much as the room stayed very cool. Breakfast was in the main dining room with delicious home made cookies, jam, fruit, cereal and coffee. 

The building and our room were perfect, but what made our three day stay all the more special was the genuine warm welcome and hospitality we received from Grazia and Salvatore. We felt right at home with them from the minute we arrived, and we left knowing we made friendships that will be in place for our next visit. They don't speak English but we were able to communicate the basics, and Luisa was always available for anything that required more detail. They showed us the layout of the town, places to visit, the main street for ceramic shopping, and suggestions for dinner using a map of the town. They also pointed us to the streets where our family used to lived - just a few blocks away. 

Santo Stefano di Camastra is a small, walkable town with everything close by. There is also a main square with stunning views toward the Aeolian Islands (the town is up on a hill). Every person we met was friendly and helpful to us in every way, whether to answer questions, offer us help, show us the way...nothing was too much trouble. We were looking for an authentic Sicilian experience during our stay in this town and we were delighted with every aspect of our visit! 

Day trips available from Santo Stefano (especially if you have a car) include Cefalu and beaches, Tindari, Nebrodi Park, and the archeological area of Alesa Tusa. Even without a car we easily walked down the steps to the train station for a day trip to Cefalu. You can buy your round trip tickets at a machine in the station that has an English language option. The trip was only 30 minutes each direction and we found the trains to run on schedule. From Santo Stefano we continued on by train to Milazzo to catch a hydrofoil to Stromboli. That train trip and connection was also on schedule. 

I'm not a beachy, resort type of traveller so agree with a previous reviewer that staying in Santo Stefano di Camastra is preferable staying in Cefalu. And when staying in Santo Stefano you don't need to look any further than staying at the B&B Le Coccinelle!

Excellent B&B - Welcoming Owners

PROS: 
-Authentic, Italian rooms that give you a truly Sicilian experience. We especially liked standing on the baroque style balconies and looking out!
-In the center
-Very clean and spacious
-We had delicious homemade fig jam for breakfast
-Street parking

CONS:
-Host doesn't speak English, but she's extremely nice and communicating the basics is no problem

Beautiful Sicilian Rooms!

We went to Caronia to build my husband's genealogy tree for his family. we wanted to stay there but there was no hotel. we found one a little bit further but it was very expensive and not very welcoming, the za maria. we drove a little bit more, about 4km, then we saw a lot of ceramic stores. the city was very neat. we saw a sign with a little ladybug very cute. it was a Bed and Breakfast, in a quiet street. for 25 euros a night per person, my husband  and I got a really big family bedroom, with 4 very comfortable beds, and a nice roof with decorations. the floor was pretty and the bathroom very convenient, with shower, dryer, and even a bidet. I am french and it is very typical ! 
the couple was so nice. We planned to stay only one night, but because of the great couple, very helpful, took us the the cyber café, advised us a wonderful restaurant : da gianino etc. we finally stayed 2 nights to enjoy the city and the beach. we would have loved to stay more, but we had to go back to Naples through the ferry from palermo. 
san stefano is a nice city, much better than cefalu or palermo. 
the lady prepared delicious home made cookies and jam. the breakfast is taken in the main room and the italian coffee was excellent. 
we'll come back !
