Went with Neilson. Lovely people, very little snow so ski in /out was not possible but they drove a van down the road for us. Lovely cosy hotel with good food. bear in mind only one elec socket per bedroom and no draws for unpacked clothes, only a few hangers in wardrobe too. not much space for drying, including towels, bit of mould in the shower in our under roof bathroom. but nothing to get too worried about.
Would certainly go again, oh yes great food too.

All but perfect for the two of us.

We booked this holiday for 2 reasons ski in ski out which was not possible due to lack of snow. The access to the chair lift was via a steepish muddy field which on the first morning was frozen and my husband slipped and fell which is not ideal on the first morning. 
As the temperature rose it became increasingly muddy which was not ideal for the ski boots and locker room. After a discussion with Charlie & Frankie a bucket of water and brush we're left for us to clean our boots before entering the boot room - this was welcomed.
Secondly the jacuzzi was out of action which was disappointing 😞 so l had a massage which was wonderful for those tired muscles. I was then offered a free glass of processco which was taken with my evening meal due to the jacuzzi being out of action.
I must point out that there was a horrendous smell of food in our room (215) on upon arrival - we couldn't be moved so the room was sprayed and windows opened. This didn't improve greatly so the windows we're left open permanently.This was uncomfortable as it made my eyes water so may be a better extractor fan is needed in the kitchen.
On the first night the food was amazing and then never really lived up to that night. The Red house wine was very smooth which my husband enjoyed.
The staff we're all great and very helpful being friendly. 
The breakfast was great with lovely hot options.
Regarding ski hire l must say in 20 years of skiing l've never met a ruder man than Georgio in Gros Sports and we we're not alone in our treatment.
Neilson you need to reassess your ski equipment supplier aswell as being rude and unhelpful the equipment was dated dirty and quite frankly shoddy - they Don't deserve the business..
Overall we had a great week and would return as we enjoyed the ski area.

Lovely Chalet overall - couple of things to be aware of.

A warm, welcoming home from home on the edge of Sauze d'Oulx, our group of 23 had a wonderful week here over new year. The team led by Lorraine and Charlie (from Neilson ski) could not have been more friendly, helpful, experienced and knowledgable. The chalet has a lovely bar/lounge area with beautiful fire and views across the mountain, the dining room on the lower floor is full of character and again has lovely views. All of the rooms were comfortable and clean although I understand they vary in size/shape/outlook. The food was delicious, fantastic local cuisine and ingredients, and the restaurant was very accommodating of our large group comprising 5 families.  I think most of the other comments cover the points about location, about 5 -10 mins walk down to he very pretty village of Jovenceaux, and a steep 15 min climb up to Sauze which has a lovely selection of bars, cafes restaurants and shops. Non-skiers who made the most of the hotel's superb massage therapist, Teuta, plus yoga classes at the nearby Gros Wellness Centre.  
The skiers of all abilities enjoyed their skiing, including a day across an Montgenevre.
Back to the hotel - this really feels like a family run vibe - you get to know the whole team during the course of the week and they really do want to help make your holiday the best it can be. A real find, highly recommended.

Fantastic home from home

I've skied with Neilson two or three times down the years, and they're always fairly solid providers, accepting that they're a lower mid-market chalet operator.
We liked the chalet, the room was big enough, though a bit more hanging space wouldn't have gone amiss. It was always warm, and the bathroom was a good size, with a very good shower. Rooms on the north south side have no real view other than to apartments above that had a clear view in to the bathroom, with no privacy glass.
Other facilities were good: a great bar / lounge with TV and stocked with games and a table football table; downstairs a sauna and hottub, with a treatment room: there was an option for massage and various treatments that a few guests utilised. 
The restaurant was a good size, laid out in hotel not chalet style (so little mixing of groups), and with a lovely outlook across the valley. 
The boot room was good, with very effective boot driers - there is an option (for about €20) to leave kit in the locker room close to the chairlift that starts about 250m below the chalet - we used this, the lad in charge was very helpful and likeable, and although the driers here were less effective, avoiding the hike up the hill to the chalet at the end of the day might be worth the price.
The chalet was a bit noisy at peak periods - not a comment on clientele so much as soundproofing between rooms, but not excessively so. 

The food was variable. Breakfasts were good, buffet service, with a wide range of pastries, bread, meat and cheese, jams, cereals, and a hot option (never a full English, often constituent parts).  Afternoon tea was a highlight: always a cake and home-made biscuits which were invariably very good.  Evening dinner comprised three courses, always Italian fare, with options for starter and main - always a vegetarian option, but the quality was variable.  Coffee / tea afterwards would have been a nice touch, though we could have served ourselves from the breakfast machines I guess. Our main course often came out not much more than warm, and meat cuts were usually the cheaper parts of the beast, with veg invariably slightly over-cooked. All was served fully plated. It was all acceptable, but probably below par for a chalet nowadays, especially one with a reasonable complement of kitchen staff: I suspect it's a matter of budget. 

The genial owner ran an hourly mini-bus service early evening, up into the village, and I think did the same in the morning - helpful for beginners or timid skiers.  We walked up a couple of times, but even the 'Good Ski Guide's' description mentioning various contributors' comments about the slopes in Sauze could not prepare us for the assault course.  The slope up is a black - it's about fifteen minutes steady walk, with occasional stops advisable, up to the old centre.  I can't imagine what it must be like coming down if it's snowed: crampons advisable though!

The chalet location is good for the snow (so long as there IS snow), so-so for the town.  Sauze needs a ski-bus, perhaps the precipitous location mitigates against it. The chalet is just about ski-in, ski-out (not for beginners) when the snow is good.  During our stay it was a walk across the field to the Jouvenceaux lift, as I hinted earlier, great in the morning, a bit of a trek at the end of the day.  The run in is the lowest in the resort, and in spring conditions like the ones we had is, by the end of the day, a mixture of very choppy snow with occasional patches of local geology thrown in, just to smooth your edges a little. Fortunately, you can ride the chair down though.

On balance we'd probably return.

A lot to like, one or two things to beware

Neilson Chalet/Hotel with fairly easy access to the piste. The rooms are comfortable, small & clean. The one thing Neilson don’t tell you is that the coaches cannot drive up to the hotel so drop you off in a car park down the hill. Although it’s a fairly short walk it’s a steep hill! 
 With regards to the food served…I think the chef needs to go back to cookery school. Some of the main courses served were in edible.
On a positive note the Neilson staff were great & considering the warm temperatures the snow was in good condition. Nice quiet pistes!

Good Hotel - Poor Food

Just back from a wonderful week at this chalet hotel. Too many to thank individually but must single out Grace and Gino barman. Clean, cosy, comfortable.  Friendly efficient staff, run by the amazing manager Lorraine. Amazing cakes and biscuits from Valéria. Great massage Maura I think? Great food and wine. Bruno to drive us to the village and clear the snow! Will definitely be back asap! Situated in the lovely hamlet of jouvenceux, 100 m from the chair lift.

I want to go back!

We're just at the end of a wonderful week and can't recommend Edelweiss more highly especially the friendliness of the staff, the tasty food, wonderful sauna and the showers. Mentioning the latter because sometimes the showers in ski resorts aren't powerful enough. 

Breakfast is served from 7:30 - 9 am and the hot food was really good along with a great buffet selection (which of course you are served at the moment because of Covid). Dinner is served from 7pm and was so much better than in a catered chalet - the benefit of chefs and a proper kitchen I guess. 

We have absolutely loved our week and would definitely come back. Thank you Bruno and team.

Such an amazing time

We stayed here for Christmas 2021 and had a thoroughly good time.  The staff could not have been more helpful or approachable.  The accommodation, although basic, is comfortable, clean and perfectly adequate for a skiing holiday.  The resort and hotel were affected by COVID, however management did their up most to ensure that it did not affect our stay. 
 We were unable to ski back to the hotel and the adjacent ski lift only opened on our last day.  A shuttle was provided to and from the ski lift which took us to the extensive ski area.  We were able to use the sauna and jacuzzi for the first 3 days; use was limited due to COVID.  It was clean and well managed by the resident masseuse.  Food was varied and very tasty; Christmas dinner was particularly good.  My only slight complaint would be that the restaurant was often chilly and the food, which was served luke warm, soon became cold.  The service provided by the ski hire shop was excellent, skis delivered and collected from the accommodation.  I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a no frills skiing holiday.

Excellent Christmas

The five stars are mostly based on the Neilson team at the chalet, who deliver exellent customer service, anything you ask for is delivered swiftly.  The hotel has the feel of a private club as it is just for Neilson guests, it is cosy and welcoming.  We felt the sofa area could be expanded to enable more guests to sit on comfy seats rather than the wooden bar seats, although that is just a personal preference.  Although this is chalet board,with 6 meals provided and wine with the meals,  we were pleasantly surprised to get a full cooked breakfast, afternoon tea and bar service every day.  The meals were good and an imaginative vegetarian option was provided every day.  The ability to have a very good massage after skiing at a reasonable price was a real perk, the jacuzzi and sauna were good and a nice touch was the lovely Temple spa samples to try.    We were extremely lucky with the snow and this enabled us to ski in and out after the first day.  We will return.

Cosy Chalet Hotel

The Chalet Hotel has many plus points but we were a little disappointed by a couple of things. I'll start with the good bits. Location - close to the lift which you can ski down to if you are of a reasonable standard. Skiing back into the hotel could be a little daunting for beginners too. Its located just out of town but the walk doesn't take long although its uphill. Lots of places to eat and drink in town. The hotel bar/ lounge area is nice for afternoon tea and drinks after dinner. The food is reasonable but could do with a bit more variation. Spa area is a nice perk! The resort as a whole is a great area for skiing and I would go back.
The negatives. Room 207. We had booked an economy double room so expected a double bed but we arrived to a twin room and were told all doubles in the hotel are twins pushed together. Our bed had a large wooden frame around it so the beds didnt touch. I know other rooms had beds that were able to be pushed together so I didnt think this was a very good solution from the staff. The second and bigger issue is the noise from the bar. Room 207 backs onto the wall with the bar. You'll hear everything! We couldn't go back to our room during the afternoon tea break to relax as it was so noisy. Then in the evenings after dinner we could hear every conversation or drink or coffee being made which kept us up much later than we had wanted. These 2 issues could have easily been avoided and without them we would have had a great holiday.
