A really well.kept hotel in a quiet country setting. The grounds are attractive with a nice swimming pool.
The breakfast was superb and the hosts very friendly. 
The rooms were spotlessly cleaned and a reasonable size.
The location was ideal for touring, most places we wanted to see were within about 35minutes. Lots of reasonable restaurants in Galatina less than 10 minutes away.

Great week at villa padula

...about Villa Padula?
Sure, it took a bit of finding, but not actually as much as I thought it might, since somebody seems to have taken the time to put up some signs from a couple of roads away, pointing to the place. To be honest though, time spent with Google Maps and our Sat Nav before setting off was a great investment. Italian postcodes seem to cover a really big area (so no help) and our Tomtom with up to date maps showed the road in its database, but not the street name. So it was a case of finding and zooming in on the map then adding the location as a favourite. Then when you get there, there’s a massive great boulder outside the front gate with its name carved in. You shouldn’t miss it... but we did. Security gates are controlled with a key fob for getting in and out.
 After a 3 hour Ryanair (trumpets for landing on time and everything) flight from London Stanstead to Brindisi, 30 minutes waiting in 30 degrees of heat to get through customs, another 30 minutes waiting in the same heat to sign my life and credit limit away for a hire car and then a 50 minute or so drive down a mixture of 4, 2 and single lane roads to Sogliano Cavour, what an oasis of tranquillity and calm awaited in the Villa Padula. Lovely clean, fresh cool rooms and a beautiful swimming pool with not another guest in sight upon our arrival. In fact, with only about 8 or 9 rooms in total, it never got crowded and there were always adequate really comfortable sun loungers in shade or full sun, depending on your needs.

I had read that Southern Italy isn’t a big destination for Brits, and it didn’t take long to work out that this was a bit of an understatement. It was the fourth day of our stay before we bumped into any other Brits, and it turned out they had been on the same flight as us. This means that English is far from widely spoken or understood. However Rebecca and Alessandro in the Villa Padula were both fluent and were very helpful.

The rooms were lovely and looked to be fairly new or just really well kept. They were attended every day of our stay, with beds made up and plenty of large fresh towels. There was a fridge that was great for keeping wine, beers or water etc cold and air conditioning that was great at keeping the room cold. Shutters and double glazed, opening windows worked so well when closed up, it was hard to know if the sun was up yet when awaking in the morning.
The shower was big and there was plentiful hot water for a great shower, with an array of toiletries in the spacious bathroom.

Beware siesta time. We arrived, unpacked, had a refreshing dip in the pool and then prepared to head out for something to eat and stock up on a few things in a supermarket. Think again. In early August, everything closes down in town between 12 – 5. We did still head into town for a look round and stumbled across the one place, a cafe / bar / patisserie / gelateria that was open, so that ticked all the boxes. Bigger towns (Lecce for example) did seem to have more places open during these times though.

Back at the Villa Padula, each time you arrive home, you’re greeted by the BFG. A lovely big (barking) but friendly dog who spends the rest of his day sleeping in various shady spots around the gardens when he’s not welcoming intruders.

For me, breakfast was a highlight. Served on the patio looking across the gardens and pool, with a light awning to catch the breezes and offer some shade. The coffee was actually the best we had during our stay. Made as you like it, from home roasted beans. Eggs also cooked to order and a wide range of help yourself meats, cheeses, cakes, pastries, toast etc. And don’t forget the fresh Kiwifruit or melon, picked from the garden. Lovely. The one thing that would have been on my wishlist was if coffee could be available at other times. But the family have other responsibilities on the small farm, so it would be unreasonable to expect really.

There is plenty of parking, but pick your space carefully so you get some shade.
 
All in all, a lovely stay and thank you.

What’s there not to like....

Beautiful family hotel with amazing swiming pool. Breakfast on terrace was delightful and fresh. Room was cleaned every day with proffesional perfectionism. Garden is lovely and there is real banana tree: see attached picture. I think that price is not adequate because Villa Padula is cheap but comfort is like five star hotel in fact. Position is ideal for exploring because most important places to explore (Otranto, beaches) take about 30 minutes driving only. If You are looking for quality hotel, I must recommend this resort. Note: beach on the attached picture is Torre San Giovanni.

Comfort and relax

We stayed here for 2 nights recently and had a wonderful time. The room was large, modern, well designed and with TV, fridge and AC.
The swimming pool area and garden were lovely and very relaxing.

Breakfast was delightful with a great variety of cakes, bread, biscuits, fresh fruit, yogurts, fruit juices, cheese, ham and even eggs cooked to order!  Breakfast was served on the veranda overlooking the pool and the hosts went out of their way to ensure all your needs were met. Such lovely welcoming and friendly people. 

We walked into the pretty nearby town of Sogliiano Cavour in about 15 minutes and found 2 very nice restaurants and a few bars.

There are some great places to visit nearby, including Lecce, otranto and Santa Maria de Leuca.

We would highly recommend staying at Villa Padula and hope to return on our next visit to the Salento.

Superb B and B run by friendly and attentive hosts

We have had a relaxing and pleasant stay for 1 week at Villa Padula while we did day trips in the Salento area of Puglia.  We chose Sogliano Cavour as it was a central and convenient location from which to visit the towns of Gallipoli, Otranto, Lecce, etc.  Restaurant options in Sogliano Cavour are not good, and we found several good restaurants in nearby Corigliano d'Otranto. 
The best rooms are those facing the pool, as the rooms on the other side have no outlook. Breakfast was served in an empty room adjoining our family sized suite and was generous with fresh fruit, yoghurt, carton juice, range of cakes and pastries, toast, preserved meats & cheese, and of course real Italian coffee.  The service was friendly and helpful throughout our stay.  When we needed to launder some clothes, Alessandro and Rebecca insisted on getting into the car and giving us directions to the nearest laundrette 3 kms distant.
May was a good time to visit as the weather was fine with temperatures in the 23-29C range, and few tourists, therefore we had the swimming pool to ourselves each day. The free Wi-Fi was reliable both inside and outside the room.
